Best of the Best: Josh Rosebrook

Best of the Best is a series showcasing my favorite, tried-and-true, go-back-again-and-again green beauty brands. Being a beauty blogger, I’m in a constant state of flux with skincare, as I’m always trying new products. However, these brands are always in my rotation and are worthy of my highest recommendation.

josh rosebrook review

Oh, Josh Rosebrook….where do I even begin? There are SO many products that I love by this incredible line of skincare and haircare, but today I am going to focus on my Top 5 in skincare.

Active Enzyme Exfoliator

Advanced Hydration Mask

Hydrating Accelerator

Cacao Antioxidant Mask

Nutrient Day Cream SPF 30

As you can probably ascertain from the first three products above, Josh Rosebrook masks are kind of a big deal with me as they are the most reached for masks on my skincare shelf.

Let’s get started with the Active Enzyme Exfoliator. Friends, I can promise you it’s a very rare occurrence if this mask isn’t on my face every Sunday. This exfoliator supports the feeling of healthy cell turnover with enzymes from honey, papaya, yucca, beetroot and elderberry that naturally soften and brighten the skin’s appearance. And man, it does its job – my skin looks brand spanking new (not a dead skin cell in sight!) when I wash this off my face.

josh rosebrook active enzyme exfoliator

I love this exfoliator for many reasons – especially that it’s a chemical (natural enzymes like papaya) and physical (very finely milled walnut shells) exfoliant, so you’re getting the best of both worlds. I’ve tried A LOT of exfoliators, and this one is seriously impressive. Also, and I find this to be true with all Josh Rosebrook products, they never irritate my skin. I can leave the Active Enzyme Exfoliator on for up to an hour with no sensitivity – just gorgeous, clear skin.

And you know else loves this exfoliator? My husband, as you can see in this video!

He uses this exfoliator every week, not to mention the Hydrating Accelerator and Advanced Hydration Mask every evening. (Josh Rosebrook is his skincare line of choice..get your men using this incredible line STAT.)

Speaking of the Advanced Hydration Mask, will you look at that shade of blue?

Just looking at it makes me happy. This mask attracts and maintains cellular hydration retention with a synergy of senna seed, aloe vera, mango seed butter, honey, and avocado. Ginger, fenugreek, and chickweed stimulate circulation while blue tansy, rose and St. John’s wort instill a feeling of calm to inflamed skin. It’s basically the most soothing hug for your skin ever.

Looking to calm sensitive and/or irritated skin? Get this mask. Need a huge boost of hydration? Again, GET ON IT.

Aren’t both products gorgeous? p.s. – the scents are even better.

Moving on to one of the line’s ultra top sellers since day one, the Hydrating Accelerator is a toner, light moisturizer and herbal vitamin-infused water that balances your skin’s pH and preps your skin to more readily absorb serums, oils, and creams that follow. I love to use this during the day and it’s no joke that I have 4-5 little bottles of it around my house at all times because my entire family uses it! I mean, you never know when you might need a spritz!

josh rosebrook cacao antioxidant mask

Next up, the Cacao Antioxidant Mask. This delicious (yes, I want to eat it) mask is a powerful skin brightening and rejuvenating product that detoxifies, tones, tightens and softens the skin. You’ll see instant results after just one use, and regular users will experience a clearer, firmer and overall brighter complexion.

Cacao is extremely high in flavanols–powerful antioxidants that help to activate circulation in the skin stimulating blood flow to micro-circulatory areas feeding your skin the vitamins, minerals, amino and fatty acids and antioxidants it needs to be bright, tight and youthful. And I can attest to activated circulation – you can expect your skin to be slightly redder for up to hour after using. (The first time I used it I was concerned that my skin was too sensitive, but nope, it was just all the blood being brought to the surface of the skin by the flavanols. This has actually become my favorite part of the process – when I see my pink skin, that means damn good things are happening!)

Other ingredients are Coenzyme Q10, which delivers antioxidants via small molecules that can easily penetrate skin cells, Bladderwrack which is a rich source of vitamin A and sea minerals (super nourishing!), and antioxidants in Grape Seed oil which protect collagen to firm skin structure and restore elasticity.

This mask is incredible, y’all. I adore it.

Last but certainly not least, the Nutrient Day Cream SPF 30 is a must-have. This dual-action day cream performs as a regenerating moisturizer and natural, broad-spectrum sunscreen. The Nutrient Day Cream delivers a potent combination of distinct herbal actives and plant oils to repair, moisturize and protect skin and the lightweight cream finishes matte, smooth and comfortable without a white cast. A high-quality uncoated, non-nano, high micron zinc oxide provides effective sunblock against skin-damaging solar rays.

This cream is perfect for all skin types (including oily and acne-prone) and has a seriously impressive list of ingredients including organic oils of hemp, borage and sea buckthorn, as well as bilberry, catnip, and marshmallow root, to name a few. Tons of antioxidants brighten and firm while enzymatic action ignites tissue cell metabolism, slowing down the aging process of the skin.

Long story short, this is way more than a daily SPF. It’s like a superfood for my skin and most importantly, looks great on. No white residue can be found immediately after applying which I know can be such a dealbreaker with other facial SPF products. It’s an SPF game changer in my book.

Josh Rosebrook consistently delights me with his product line and I’m a huge fan. As always, please let me know if you have any questions and I’ll be happy to help if I can!

Best of the Best: African Botanics

Best of the Best is a series showcasing my favorite, tried-and-true, go-back-again-and-again green beauty brands. Being a beauty blogger, I’m in a constant state of flux with skincare, as I’m always trying new products. However, these brands are always in my rotation and are worthy of my highest recommendation.

Many of you know that my #1 favorite treatment serum that I use day in and day out is the Resurrection Cell Recovery Serum by African Botanics. This miracle retinol treatment has changed my skin completely and I won’t bore you with the details today because they are already all here. (Cliff Notes – IT IS THE BEST THING EVER.)

Well, once I saw the incredible results using the Cell Recovery Serum, I wanted to know more about this brand and the products in the line.

African Botanics is an eco-luxury skincare collection driven by ancient African phytochemistry and rich botanical pharmacology – the brand honors and respects thousands of years of traditional African medicinal knowledge which was created from the need to survive and protect the skin from the harsh African environment. Incorporating molecular science, capturing antioxidants, omegas, intelligent nutrients and far beyond, African Botanics’ selection of ultra-powerful actives starts with in-depth research and analysis via close collaborations with university labs and research teams in South Africa, France, Austria, and Switzerland. They then select highly effective phyto-actives and South African plant species for their heightened antioxidant concentration, molecular structure, natural peptides, and omega content.

The products’ ingredients come from every part of Southern Africa: the desert, the sea, and the land. The majority are wild-harvested from very unique hot spots called eco-zones where they grow in their natural, bio-dynamic environment free from farming, pollution, pesticides, and human interference. Plus, they make sure that the plants they use are sustainable and are harvested with the utmost respect to nature and future generations.

Okay, okay. What does this all mean? Well, they are effective, potent, clinically-proven, and clean. I’m super impressed.

Here are the products from the line that I’ve been using and loving. The first three have now been dubbed My Holy Trinity of Skincare.

RESURRECTION CELL RECOVERY SERUM

The holy grail, like I mentioned above. My in-depth review here.

FLEURS D’AFRIQUE INTENSIVE RECOVERY OIL

This is actually the first product from African Botanics that I ever used. I received the oil in a Boxwalla box and was taken aback by the scent and potency of this oil almost immediately. Described as a “restorative oil with retinol and powerful anti-aging actives,” Fleurs D’Afrique Intensive Recovery Oil is super concentrated and super active.

Harnessing the healing potency of Africa’s night-blooming Baobab flowers, alongside ‘The Queen of the Night’ – Jasmine Grandiflorum – hand-picked at dusk, this oil-serum is ideal for hormonal, mature or confused complexions; neutralizing the harmful effects of everyday exposure to pollutants and UV, while fortifying the skin barrier to boost resilience.

The distinct African oil complex forms a powerful essential fatty acid matrix to prevent and ‘undo’ existing signs of stress – from fine lines and wrinkles to blemishes, dark spots, redness, and loss of firmness. Skin is left luminous, with improved clarity, vitality, and strength. Extracts of Damask Rose, African Immortelle flower and Rosehip seed oil possess cell regenerating properties while rejuvenating the skin.

Personally, this oil is next-level when used in conjunction with the Cell Recovery Serum. (Cell Recovery Serum first followed by the Recovery Oil.) The scent is very unique – very earthy with hints of Jasmine and it absorbs very well while still leaving the skin very supple. If I had to pick one, I’d go with my beloved Cell Recovery Serum, but if you can pony up for both products, you will not be disappointed. Worth every penny!

NUTRITIVE MOLECULE SERUM

100% honesty here. I did NOT want to love this serum. At $250 a pop, I was sure I could find something just as effective for much less in the green beauty realm. But I had a bottle to try and…you know where this is going, right? It did AMAZING things to my complexion.

It is an incredibly rejuvenating serum that makes my skin’s texture so clear and bright. My pores completely disappeared after a week of using this every morning. The serum has 3 types of Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Ferulic Acid, Tannic Acid, Niacinamide, Superoxide Dismutase, Resveratrol, Green Coffee and Yeast. It’s non-toxic and lightweight and is incomparable at helping to combat damage due to age, urban pollution, and dryness.

I use the Nutritive Molecule Serum every morning and the Resurrection Cell Recovery Serum + Fleurs D’Afrique Intensive Recovery Oil every night and my skin has never looked better. I haven’t worn foundation for over a month since using these three products!

PURE MARULA OIL

If you are looking for a powerful Antioxidant oil (and/or the Fleurs D’Afrique is too high of a price point), the Pure Marula Oil is divine. Now, I’ve used several Marula oils in the past (Drunk Elephant Marula Oil comes to mind immediately), but there is a reason this one is award-winning. It feels and smells so luxurious on the skin.

Ultra lightweight yet very plumping and smoothing, it’s incredibly potent, antioxidant-rich, and neutralizes free radicals. Love that it’s super stable as well with the lightest molecular weight and the richest plant source of Oleic Acid (Omega 9).

So so good for reactive and/or sensitive skin. I don’t know any skin type that wouldn’t benefit from this oil. And the scent…don’t even get me started. It smells so good, I’m begging African Botanics to make a fragrance with the same notes. I may or may not use this as a hair oil as well. #multitasking

BAOBAB CLAY OXYGENATING CLEANSER

Hello, new obsession of mine! This cleanser is EVERYTHING in the morning. My go-to products for morning cleansing have been Tata Harper Regenerating Cleanser and the Suki Exfoliating Cleanser (although I ultimately stopped using this one because the product repeatedly would dry out), but the Baobab Cleanser has stolen first place.

First off, what I’m personally looking for in a morning cleanser is to balance and perk up my skin. Obviously, I’m not concerned with removing makeup in the morning so it’s more about looking and feeling fresh.

This skin balancing, water-soluble cleanser eliminates impurities and unclogs pores without over-drying or irritating. (That’s key!) It regulates sebum production leaving skin with a soft matte finish while calming the epidermis and reducing redness. This one is ideal for people exposed to urban stress, pollution, harsh, dry climates or for frequent travelers and is recommended for dull, mature, unbalanced, seborrheic and sensitive skin.

And if that wasn’t enough, The scent is ridiculously fantastic. Essential oils of Sandalwood and Cedarwood are on point and I feel totally rebalanced and rejuvenated after using.

BUCHU BOTANICAL ENZYME POLISH

A few mornings out of the week, I prefer to exfoliate instead of wash. The Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish is a clarifying facial exfoliant that deeply exfoliates, lifts off dead skin cells and purifies the epidermis to leave skin clean, soft, and radiant without causing irritation.

A unique combination of sun dried aromatic Buchu plant and crushed Baobab fruit sourced from the southern tip of Africa are merged with healing Micro-Algae and fine granules of ancient volcanic minerals to visibly refine texture and soften the look of fine lines and dark spots by buffing away dull skin.

My skin always feels supple, smooth, and refreshed after using this exfoliant. Smells fruity which is great for a morning perk-up.

ROSE TREATMENT ESSENCE

This essence is a unique multi-functional treatment gel that fits into the toner category. Designed for all skin complexions, this concentrated formula helps detoxify cells, tighten pores and restore moisture levels while brightening, refining, hydrating and rebalancing skin’s pH levels.

I love the Rose Treatment Essence as a toner, but it’s actually a gel that pumps out of the bottle and for some reason, I prefer to spritz toners on my face so I usually reach for my MUN toner as my toning step. However, I love that it’s infused with pure Rose Flower Water and a refreshingly light CO2 extract of Rosa Centifolia to help retain moisture, brighten and even out skin tone while reducing redness and inflammation.

Also wanted to mention that this essence is the only product of the six mentioned today that contains Phenoxyethanol. It’s a personal decision whether or not you choose to use Phenoxyethanol in your skincare, but I wanted to mention it here.

FIRMING BOTANICAL BODY OIL

Are you a body oil aficionado? This intensive rejuvenating skin treatment is completely delightful. Did you know that Marula oil is also incredible at firming the skin? Yep, the wild-harvested African Marula and Pinotage Grape Seed Oils in the Firming Botanical Body Oil are alllllll about firming and toning.

Light in texture, this cold-pressed oil provides corrective and preventative action against the main causes of loss of firmness: lack of elasticity, dryness and sun damage. (Hello, I just described my legs.)

This oil is simply beautiful, absorbs quickly, and makes my gams look pretty dang good, if I do say so myself. And I realize scent is definitely a theme today, but once again, this smells amazing. Herbal, fresh, and a little sexy. *wink wink*

Those are my tops! As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to let me know in the comments! This line is really the créme de la créme of green beauty, and I know you will adore it as much as I do!

Best of the Best: Kosas Cosmetics

Best of the Best is a series showcasing my favorite, tried-and-true, go-back-again-and-again green beauty brands. Being a beauty blogger, I’m in a constant state of flux with skincare and cosmetics, as I’m always trying new products. However, these brands are always in my rotation and are worthy of my highest recommendation.

kosas cosmetics review

From the inception of the brand in 2015, I have been borderline obsessed with Kosas Cosmetics. First came the lipsticks, which as you will soon see, possess some kind of magic fairy dust because every single one in the line works with my complexion. Yeah, let’s stop and think about that for a sec – have you ever encountered a line in which every shade worked on your skin tone? How does that happen exactly? (Lipstick swatches featured below!)

KOSAS LIPSTICKS

Listen, I love lipstick and have had many remark that I “can wear every color,” but that simply is not true. There are many green beauty lines which I want to love and support but the fact of the matter is, they look pretty bad on me. (Many shades tend to look very orange or brown on my lips and it ain’t flattering, friends.) What I’m trying to say here is that there’s a lipstick graveyard in my bathroom because many look hella wrong on my mug.

But that’s what’s crazy about Kosas…they don’t just look good on me, they look great on tons of different skin tones. Light, dark, warm, cool, ruddy, super pale – the shades look lovely on many, thanks to Sheena Yaitanes, the founder. Sheena is a chemist, painter, and a life-long beauty devotee and has used her background to create amazing colors that are universally flattering on a wide range of skin tones. Y’all know I love it when science and art meets beauty, right?

All of the shades are broken down into cool tones (an easy match for fair skin, light blondes, and ashy brunettes) and warm tones (complements medium complexions or deeper, honey blondes and darker), but what I find interesting and a testament to these universally flattering colors, is while I usually gravitate towards cool tones, I find I wear the warmer-toned lipsticks more often. (How do you do it, Sheena? Tell me your secrets!)

All of the Kosas color cosmetics are formulated for maximum wear, comfort, and beauty and Kosas is always free of parabens, phthalates, mineral oil, propylene glycol, phenoxyethanol, synthetic fragrance and is never tested on animals. Beyond the killer lipsticks, Kosas also has a line of creme blushes and illuminators, powder blushes and illuminators, and the current darling, the Tinted Face Oil.

KOSAS FACE PRODUCTS

The Color and Light Creme Blush/Illuminator Duo in 8th Muse is my go-to, in fact, I’m wearing it in all of the below photos. It is a cool pink that gives my cheeks such a pretty pop of color. The cream blushes give me a natural, dewy finish, but if I’m in a powder mood instead of cream, I personally go for the Color + Light Palette Duo in Longitude Zero.

The Tinted Face Oil is a feather-weight, light-to-medium coverage foundation and that wears very well on the skin. On me, this provides a good coverage with a velvety finish. The oil comes in 10 shades that cover 30 different skin tones – I wear shade 04 most of the year or shade 05 in the summer months. I filmed a thorough video on the Tinted Face Oil here if you are interested in all the details!

So, let’s check out the lipstick swatches, shall we? These babies wear like a dream, so creamy and hydrating…I just ADORE the formula.

Vapour Beauty is the first cosmetics brand I’ve featured in my Best of Best series, and that designation does not come lightly. In fact, when considering all the cosmetics brands in the green beauty realm that I adore, it wasn’t super easy to pick. However, most of the brands I love excel in one or two areas (for instance, my fave Kosas Cosmetics is all about the lips), and Vapour is one of the few brands that not only I can create an entire look with that garners compliments again and again, but these products PERFORM.

First off, a little bit about Vapour as a company. Founded in Taos, New Mexico by Krysia Boinis and Kristine Keheley, Krysia’s knowledge of healing botanicals and alchemical blending in combination with Kristine’s masterful blending of natural mineral pigments which creates Vapour’s palette of modern, classic color is a match made in heaven.
