Skincare

My skincare routine involves the following steps on a daily basis:

Cleanse, Tone, Treat with Serum(s), Moisturizer, Eye Cream

In addition to my daily routine, I use exfoliators and/or masks a few times a week when time permits, but I am careful with exfoliation because too much can definitely compromise my skin barrier and lead to problems.

Here are my favorites in each category.

Face Cleanser:

One Love Organics Easy Does Foaming Face Cleanser – Words can’t express my feelings for this cleanser. I use this every night to cleanse my face (takes all my eye makeup off without any irritation at all and I’m a contact lens wearer). I love this so much I buy this in the jumbo size which lasts forever!
The Nue Co Barrier Culture Cleanser -This one-and-done treatment cleanser deeply cleans the skin, removing dirt, pollution, and makeup, without stripping or disrupting the skin’s pH. Soap-free, sulfate-free – it actively repairs the skin barrier and replenishes the topical microbiome by using prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics to leave your skin balanced, smooth, and nourished. Love it. (Take 30% off with the code BC30WHOORL through 4/19/21!)
BYBI Milk Melt Vegan Oat Milk Cleanser – Super calming and balancing and a great price!

Cleansing Oil (I double cleanse with an oil sporadically):

Lovinah Dragon’s Blood Vitamin C Cleansing Oil – So luxurious. Full details here.
Countertime Lipid Defense Cleansing Oil – I love this cleansing oil because it rinses clean with water only, which is rare for oil cleansers.

Full review of all of my favorite face cleansers here.

Favorite Face Washcloths: MUN Organic Face Towels (reviewed the MUN line here)

Favorite Cleansing Sponges: Appearus Compressed Sponges (these are awesome for single-use – add water and they expand)

Toners:

MUN Anarose Toner – Use every day and night. A lovely no-frills toner, always have some on hand! Review here.
African Botanics Rose Treatment Essence – This comes in a pump, not a mist. (I do prefer mists overall, but this one is great regardless.)
True Botanicals Calm Nutrient Mist – So soothing for rosacea-prone skin, instantly calms my skin (reviewed the True Botanicals line here)

Retinol Treatment Serums:

African Botanics Resurrection Cell Recovery Serum – This is my holy grail and I become slightly stressed when I run out and don’t have back up. (Full review here.)
African Botanics Retinal Night Cream – This is an incredible treatment serum although it’s called a cream. I use it in place of my Cell Recovery Serum a few nights a week, followed by the Intensive Recovery Oil.

Vitamin C Treatment Serums:

African Botanics Nutritive Molecule Serum – Expensive but an overall antioxidant powerhouse! I use this every morning after toning and it keeps my skin looking clear, bright, and evenly-textured. Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Ferulic Acid, Tannic Acid, Niacinamide, Superoxide Dismutase, Resveratrol, Green Coffee – it’s incredible.
Summer Fridays CC Me Serum – Excellent texture and is excellent at brightening – good price point.
Free + True Brightside Vitamin C Serum – This made my Top Clean Beauty Picks of 2020! Full review here.
Kypris Antioxidant Dew – Great for those looking for a glow. Ultimate hydration – this plumps my skin right up in the morning and has a lovely milky texture.
Marie Veronique Vitamin C, E + Ferulic – If you love Skinceuticals CE Ferulic, this one is for you.

Facial Moisturizers – Oils:

African Botanics Fleurs D’Afrique Intensive Recovery Oil – *night only* I use this in combination with the Cell Recovery Serum and the results are so impressive. (I talk about the combo in this video.) I’ll never run out of this oil – love that it has retinol in it. #whysoexpensivetho
Le Prunier Plum Oil – My #1 oil for last-step hydration in the morning or evening. 8x more powerful than Argan oil and 6x more powerful than Marula oil in protecting the skin from damaging free radicals! The scent is super addictive and it made my Top Clean Beauty Picks of 2019.
MARA Algae + Moringa Universal Face Oil – Packed with algae, antioxidants, phytonutrients, and essential fatty acids formulated to help nourish tired, dry skin. My skin feels super nourished, clear, and very bright when using this oil.
Mila The Clarity Oil – New to me in 2021, this oil has impressed me so much! More of my thoughts here. Use code WHOORL for 15% off!
Indie Lee Squalane Oil – Ideal for sensitive and acne-prone skin. This is such a great oil for the price! At 32 dollars, it’s SO much bang for your buck.

Kate Somerville Delikate Recovery Cream – This has become my go-to cream for morning and night when I want a bunch of hydration and no weird sensitivity. I blow through this product. (It has worked wonderfully on my PD-prone skin.
The Nue Co Barrier Culture Moisturizer – This lightweight moisturizer repopulates the topical microbiome, protects against pollution, and locks in moisture. Such incredible ingredients too – Squalane, Niacinamide, and a complex of peptides, ceramides and prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics repair the skin barrier. My skin feels firm and fresh after using. (Take 30% off with the code BC30WHOORL through 4/19/21!)

Ranavat Renewing Bakuchi Crème – Holy moly, this is a gorgeous night cream.
Beautycounter Tetrapeptide Supreme Cream – A great night cream with actives so it packs a punch.

I occasionally have bouts of perioral dermatitis and when that occurs, I switch up my entire skincare routine. My routine and best picks for PD can be found here.

Use code WHOORLXELTA for a fantastic discount + free shipping through this link.
Kinship Self Reflect SPF 32 – Lightweight, sheer, moisturizing. Gives me such a healthy glow. Love!
Honua Malu Protecting Day Cream SPF 30 – I love that this is a moisturizer and a physical block SPF so I can skip a step and it looks incredible under makeup. Makeup

Foundation:

Exa High Fidelity Foundation – My new holy grail. Most of you know that I rarely wear foundation (I prefer the Rituel de Fille concealer blended only where I need it, but I am in LOVE with this foundation.) Semi-satin finish and totally buildable. 43 shades too! I wear Dana 430 but can wear most shades in the lower 400 range as the pigments are very adaptable.
Vapour Velvet Glow Foundation – A lovely finish that looks good on mature skin. (Doesn’t seep into fine lines and/or wrinkles or look patchy.) The finish is soft and demi-matte – not overly dewy which is fantastic! I wear shade 115 or 123.
Kosas Tinted Face Oil – Love this paired with their concealer  – I wear Tone 3.5 or 04. Full review here.

Tinted Moisturizer with SPF:

Saie Slip Tint Tinted Moisturizer SPF 35 – I was so pleasantly surprised by this tinted moisturizer! I didn’t have the best experience with Saie’s regular SPF (too shiny!) so I was really happy to see how well this tinted moisturizer worked on my skin. I wear the shade Three and a Half when I have some color, but 3 for most of the year. It leaves a very natural finish on the face….just slightly dewy.

Finishing Powder:

Kosas Cloud Set Setting Powder – This is SO GOOD. It doesn’t take away your natural glow – it just takes a bit of the edge off which creates a flitered look. Super impressed with this one.
Kjaer Weis Pressed Translucent Powder – A lovely soft finish on the skin

Concealer:

Rituel de Fille Ethereal Veil Concealer – I will never be without this concealer. Super creamy and blendable and looks downright lovely on the skin. Can be used as a foundation with a satin-matte finish. Watch me applying it here.
Kosas Revealer Concealer in Tone 03 or 3.5 – Super brightening and hydrating. My full video review is here.
Clove + Hallow Conceal + Correct in 02 and 03 – Great price point at $20!

Highlighter Faves:

Westman Atelier Lit Up Highlight Sticks – I have all three shades and I adore them all. Very rarely will I reach for a highlighter from another brand. Click here to watch me apply it.
Ouli’s Ointment – this is the most lovely-smelling balm that doubles as a cheekbone highlighter without any shimmer, great for mature skin.
Rituel de Fille Rare Light Luminizer in Phosphene – A very unique peachy-beige glow

Contour:

Westman Atelier Face Trace Stick in Biscuit – Besides contouring the cheekbones, I love to use this as a neutral eye shadow, seen in this video.

Cream Blush:

Westman Atelier Baby Cheeks Blush Sticks – This formula is hard to beat and the stick form is so easy to use! I have 5 shades and love them all. You can see them swatched on me here.
Kjaer Weis Cream Blush – Another great formula. Favorites are Abundance, Sun Touched. Blossoming, and Reverence
Olie e Osso Tinted Balms – #9 and #11 are my go-tos – very subtle, dewy, and moisturizing finish.
Kosas Color + Light Creme Duo in 8th Muse –  I love this shade in particular –  a lovely cool pink.

Kosas Color + Light Pressed Duo in Longitude Zero (peachy-pink) and Contrachroma (soft golden bronze)

HAN Bronzer in Malibu – This is a lovely cool-toned bronzer.
Westman Atelier Beauty Butter Powder Bronzer – Matte and totally weightless, creates natural, sunkissed cheeks for days.

Bronzing/Illuminating Liquid:

Pai The Impossible Glow Bronzing Drops – I mix these drops into my moisturizer or SPF for the most natural and subtle bronze glow.

Eye Shadow:

Ilia Liquid Powder Chromatic Eye Tints – These are the best one-and-done eye shadows out there and they are foolproof to apply! My favorite shades and all swatches are here!

Ilia Limitless Lash Mascara – Perfection. Wouldn’t change a thing and I wear it every day.
Ere Perez Waterproof Mascara – If you are needing waterproof, this is a good option.

Lisa Eldridge Lipsticks in Velvet Ribbon, Velvet Jazz, Skyscraper Rose, and Velvet Myth

Lipgloss:

Fitglow Lip Colour Serum – My very favorite lip glosses. The shades, texture, scent, and hydration are all on point. Nudie is a gorgeous cool pink (seen here) that I wear frequently. I also love Go, Kind, Buff, and Liv – full review here
Tower 28 ShineOn Milky Lip Jelly – I never thought the day would come when I would find a lip gloss that compared to Fitglow, but I have and they are a fraction of the cost! Run, don’t walk. I have all 4, but prefer Coconut and Cashew the most.

Lip Balms:

Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask – #1 forever and ever amen
Fitglow Night Lip Serum – All the benefits of the lip color serums, but in a clear version.
