Rock Chalk

I live in an area where people could care less about collegiate sports, which is a tad frustrating for a die hard like me. Why, just over the past couple of days, several people have asked if some sort of “basketball tournament thingy” was going on.

Seriously, people? YOU KILL ME.

Whatever. People have different interests, hobbies, blahdeedah.

However, if you aren’t even remotely enthused by this unbelievable last-second shot (which led to overtime), well, you just don’t have a soul.

Congratulations to my alma mater, the University of Kansas, winners of the 2008 NCAA Basketball Championship.

(Mario, call me.)

Wait! I hear you grumbling…some of you STILL don’t care. Fine. Try to deny this cuteness.

I’m afraid that I’m one of those clueless souls who doesn’t really follow sports.

    Except. EXCEPT!

I watched this game. And it was incredible. And I was all alone in my living room, thinking, “Holy bajeebiz, why am I so excited right now? Why is this SO EXCITING??!?”

    Converted.

There’s nothing like an end-of-game comeback. Did you see that Boise State-Oklahoma (I think it was Oklahoma) football game a few years ago? I nearly hyperventilated from the excitement.

Rock Chalk Jayhawk! Or as my kid says, “Rock Hawk Jayhawk!” I must say though, that was THE LAST game I will watch with my husband EVER. He yelled at the TV and me the. entire. time. It was awful. Someone would launch a three and he’d yell “Stupid!” and then “swish” and he’d yell “You got lucky!” Drove. me. batty.

Very happy day for the great state of Kansas.

Well if it makes you feel better, I TOTALLY thought of you right away when the Jayhawks won last night…since I remembered your Kansas fervor from last year’s tourney and then they effed my brackets all to hell. But I imagined you must be elated, and since I didn’t have a horse in that race (my brackets were FUBAR’ed in the semi-finals this year), I was happy for you.

And I can’t stop calling Mario Chalmers “SuperNintendo Chalmers,” because that’s what Ralphie on The Simpsons calls the school superintendent.

I must admit, being a Mizzou alumna, I was never really much of a Kansas fan. But Wito? He’s turning me around.

We were rooting for Kansas, great outcome!

(My team didn’t even make the tourney after falling flat on its face in mid-Jan following a 14-1 start to the season. I’m slightly bitter.)

As a former Bruin, I congratulate you and your Jayhawks! That last 3 pointer before going into OT was really something else.
