Uh, I feel a little self indulgent updating you on what photo I plan to use as inspiration for my hair appointment, but THIS IS A HAIR BLOG, RIGHT?
So. After giving it much thought from reading the comments and your emails, I’ve decided that a just-hitting-the-shoulder cut would just piss me off. It would get stuck in my collar, would be way too poufy and just bleeecccccch on me. I LOVE Anne Hathaway’s hair in these photos, but that’s just not my reality.
But! I still want to continue growing my bangs out, and I just found some photos of Rose Byrne that I adore.
What do you think?
1. I’ll definitely still be taking some length off, but it will still be long enough to steer clear of the dreaded flip.
2. My natural wave is very similar to the 2nd photo, which will be how I wear it 75% of time.
3. The side part suits my cowlick much better than a middle part.
Geez, are you sick of me yet? Because I’m completely sick of myself. Alright, let’s do this!

December 9, 2010 at 12:00 amI think that will be a great cut! I had it this length right after we got married and I loved it! It looked so great wavy and straight. I had her angle it forward a little and I felt like it really thinned out my face.
Good luck! :)

December 9, 2010 at 5:18 amLOVE. IT. I’m so tempted to do the same. This high school length hair has got to go. For some reason, when my hair gets halfway down my back, it becomes a tangled, gnarled mess. Ready to lighten up…studying your pics to make a decision on cuts. LOVE these though!!

December 9, 2010 at 5:36 amLove the way it’s styled on the right. Love! I am not feeling straight hair lately so that’s why I can’t get into the straight styles. But they both look nice.
you will post pictures, yes?

December 9, 2010 at 7:04 amWhat’s that saying about the cobbler’s kids never having any shoes? (Or is it good shoes? New shoes? Sneakers?) I suppose that Hair Thursday is like that for you sometimes…always talking about other people’s hair choices, neglecting to talk about your own.
p.s. Love your inspiration photos…And on a side note, I’m amazed by your choices in inspiration photos. Every makeover you do, the photos are just so fitting, and seems like such the obvious choice. (Unlike me, I just look at pictures of celebs I *want* to look like, genetics be damned.)

December 9, 2010 at 7:05 amI LOVE this!! I’m in the dreaded stage of my hair hitting my shoulders…I thought I wanted to grow it out but now I’m so mad at the flip that I’m just going tomorrow to cut it shorter again.
Can’t wait to see how yours turns out!!

December 9, 2010 at 7:16 amI like it. I think your color will look really pretty with this cut too. Can’t wait to see it!

December 9, 2010 at 7:54 amsick of hair inspiration photos? sick of updates on your lovely locks? never! :o)
thanks for your example of how to readjust your style/cut “wants” based on the reality of your hair type- I am insanely bad at this!
will you use different products with a shoulder-length-ish style than with your current long layers?
(ok ok, so I’m sneakily pleading for a tutorial on products/techniques that can change up the look of a medium-length cut- i have no shame!)

December 9, 2010 at 7:55 amYes! Good choice! My hair also does the awful flip, and keeping it a little longer than the collarbone seems to prevent it.

December 9, 2010 at 8:22 amThanks, everyone! You’re making me feel good about the decision.
@Kelly – Yes, photos for sure!
@MichelleG – I’ll definitely do a tutorial on medium-length cuts and I’m not sure about products yet…BUT I just received a new line from Purelology (http://pureology.com/systems/ColourStylist.aspx – I don’t even have colored hair but it smells great and looks promising) that I’m dying to try out. Will report back soon!

December 9, 2010 at 8:52 amI agree; this length will serve you much better. And I love the cuts suggested. Very pretty!

December 9, 2010 at 9:35 amMan, I am loving the hair talk. We are ALL loving the hair talk.
I can totally see you with the wavy hair in the second photo. Gorgeous! I even put my finger over the face (per your mom’s suggestion) and it’s beautiful. Go for it! And yay for no more hair under the collar!

December 9, 2010 at 1:11 pmI love these looks. We have similar hair — though I color mine to cover annoying grey. I chopped my very long pre-baby hair off in the spring and am in the process of growing it back out. I’m annoyed with my layers (the top is wavier than the underside and poufs out badly with my current layers). I’m looking for a simpler style — fewer layers, more concentrated at the ends. With something to slim my face. Can’t wait to see what you get! My appointment is Saturday so post fast please. :)

December 9, 2010 at 3:26 pmI think that longer length is a good call, so it doesn’t drive you nuts. I have been growing my bangs out just to see what happens, but I don’t really like it on me. Probably when I go for my big, different hair-cut, I’m going to get them cut again.
