Well, seven years after having my first child, we decided to have some family photos taken. (Can you believe that? I have no idea why we waited so long.)
We enlisted Cary Holton, who is a mega talented lifestyle photographer. She had quite a challenge on her hands, though. Known for capturing authentic moments in clients’ homes, our family was half a country away from ours while visiting Oklahoma this summer so we had to do some brainstorming as to where to shoot. We chose Kaisers for some ice cream and then downtown at sunset. I am so so happy with the photos. Here are some of my favorites.

October 14, 2013 at 9:04 amI love the relaxed and natural style of these photos. So many photographers have moved toward this hyper lit, romantic style where the individuals are shot completely without real life context. These are a breath of fresh air!

October 14, 2013 at 11:41 amI’ve been reading you for YEARS and this is the first time I’ve ever commented (I know, I know – lurker!), but I just had to today because these incredible photos of your family made me tear up a little. Completely caught me off guard! What a beautiful, loving and spirited family you have!
Much love,
Jessica

October 16, 2013 at 12:14 amWe just booked a family portrait session for next month, and now I want to scrap it and find a way to hire Cary. These are gorgeous. Also? Your hair is stunning. Mine is currently looking a bit like Princess Di’s circa 1992. I hope you’re feeling as happy as you look.

October 16, 2013 at 8:32 amYour family is beautiful and the pictures are lovely! Was anyone else a bit shocked when they went to the photographer’s homepage? I’m just not a fan of kids on toilets pictures.
