A few years ago, when I starting searching for non-Western ways to assist in my health, I stumbled upon Ayurvedic herbs. The entire Ayurvedic practice was so interesting to me – basing health decisions on my Dosha, which is the energy circulating inside your being and governing my physiological activity.
After studying the three doshas (Vata, Kapha, and Pitta), it became so increasingly clear that my personal dosha was that of Vata, so I looked into herbs and supplements that helped balance my Vata.
Here’s a look at common temperaments and characteristics of the 3 doshas.
In fact, here’s a quick quiz to determine which is your dosha.
Have you all heard of The Chopra Center in San Diego? I visited there a few years back, as I’ve always been such a fan of Deepak Chopra. (Please go read The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success if you haven’t already. Gamechanger.) Obviously, Dr. Chopra is a thought leader in terms of mindfulness, as well as Ayurveda, and the Chopra Center recently announced a marketplace for books, supplements, guided meditations, and much more.
The Chopra team sent some wellness products to help during the cold and flu season, and I wanted to tell you about some of my favorites.
These organic teas are really lovely – I really enjoy the relaxing blend (no surprise since it balances vata) which contains cinnamon, chicory, ginger, cardamom and nutmeg. Also, the Invigorating blend is a favorite, with cloves, ginger root, peppermint and allspice as some of the ingredients.
Some of the other products I tried are the Vedamune supplement, which ramps up the body’s immune system (perfect for the cold and flu season), and the Ayurnas Cold and Allergy Remedy. The Vedamune is really acting as my multi-vitamin right now, but with the added support of ashwagandha, guduchi and amalaki. However, if I had to pick a favorite, it would be the Ayurnas sinus support – containing safflower oil, sesame oil, coconut oil, and vitamin E, and infused with the natural aromas of eucalyptus, rose, sandalwood, peppermint, lavender, and basil, this stuff is fabulous. You just drop a few drops on a cotton swab and rub around the nostril, and it has been so helpful this season with my sinuses!
Of course, the center also carries many of Dr. Chopra’s books and meditations, which are tops in my book. You can check out all the products here. Thanks to The Chopra Center for sending these items my way.

Is this the sinus support you mentioned in your post?
I would love it for cold/flu season but I also want to see if I can get my daughter (12) off of daily zyrtec for allergies…
