Hold Me Closer, Reverse Mullet

usmagazine.com

I try to keep things on the non-snarky side around here, but OH MY GOD when I read this quote from Kate Gosselin in Entertainment Weekly, I died. Dead.

Everybody wants it. It’s work. I have very, very thick hair, so it’s not going to work for everybody. I’ve seen people come through the book line with thin hair and it’s just won’t work. My hair stylist gets calls from all across the country.

Everybody wants it? EVERYBODY WANTS IT? No no no, I do not want it. YOU SHOULD NOT WANT IT.

People, I urge you. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS HAIRCUT. To put it simply, it makes the baby jesus cry, kills kittens, you know the drill.

US Weekly has the best photo gallery ever of what celebrities would look like with Gosselin’s hair. It pretty much made my day.

Feel like you can withstand more of the reverse mullet? Check out more photos here.

Gap Racerback Dress

Yesterday, I found a new dress at the Gap.

I’m quite fond of this dress. So fond, in fact, that my initial thought while trying it on was that I NEEDED TO TELL THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS DRESS. Now, we could over-analyze why that would be my very first thought (hint: slight internet addiction), but let’s not put a damper on this party.

After returning home, I swiftly visited gap.com only to find that the dress was not there! OH NO! How would the internet learn of this special dress? I know! I’ll force D to take photos of the dress in an amateur attempt to emulate one of my favorite blogs, Cupcakes and Cashmere!

(Note to self: You do not possess Emily’s lithe legs. Please do not EVER attempt a tulip skirt.)

Whatevs. This dress is going to be my perfect go-to dress for the summer. Lightweight, comfortable and featuring POCKETS.  Pockets make me weep with joy. (I even put my hand in the pocket for the photo which really did nothing but add 20 visual inches to my hips. Fail.) And although I’m wearing heels in the photo, I think gold Dolce Vita flat sandals will be my first choice. Did I mention the skirt is so billowy and voluminous that you could hide a bottle of vodka underneath for playdates?

Wait! I haven’t told you about the best part. Take a gander.

The racerback, folks. The perfect little detail.

I think my work here is done. Go buy the dress. (But don’t wear it around my neighborhood.)

Best Hair Color in Hollywood

I have a thing for redheads. Trust me, the day I start coloring my hair will be the day I officially become an auburn-hued lady. With that being said, if I had to pick the best color in Hollywood, I would declare Isla Fisher’s color the most swoon-worthy. Hello, GORGEOUS.

InStyle recently published their picks for Best Color in Hollywood. Take a look and tell me if you agree…if not, who’s your celebrity favorite?

THE COLOR: “Jen’s hair color is a light brown base with golden-blond highlights, and some baby-blond highlights focused on the ends,” says Negin, of L.A.’s Sally Hershberger salon, who visits Aniston at home to give her this enviable color.

WHO CAN WEAR IT: “Jen’s color can work on a lot of people because it has more depth and variation—so darker skin tones all the way to lighter ones, and any eye color works,” says Negin.

HOW TO GET IT: “Ask your colorist for a light brown base, golden-blond highlights throughout, and baby-blond highlights on the ends,” suggests Negin. “I wouldn’t try to get this color at home, as the highlights can get really messy if you’re not a professional.”

THE COLOR: Gina Gilbert, of the Serge Normant at John Frieda salon in L.A., who colors Jennifer Connelly’s hair, calls it a dark, warm, rich brown.

WHO CAN WEAR IT: “This works best on natural brunettes,” says Gilbert. And while anyone can wear a rich brown shade, Gilbert says that this shade “makes light eyes really stand out.”

HOW TO GET IT: “Ask for a semi-permanent or vegetable color in a warm, rich, dark brown,” says Gilbert.

THE COLOR: “Kate’s hair is a single-process blond with highlights,” says New York-based colorist Sharon Dorram, who works with the Oscar winner. “The base is lifted two to three shades lighter than her natural color, creating a honey-blond color. The highlights around the face are baby blond.”

WHO CAN WEAR IT: “This color works best on anyone with a peaches-and-cream complexion and light eyes,” says Dorram. “The best results will also come from someone who has a light to medium-light ash-brown base color.”

HOW TO GET IT: Ask for a honey-blond base and layers of highlights that are woven into the hair. “This is not a color that can be achieved in one visit,” adds Dorram.
