Odds and Ends

1. Do you live in a bubble? This quiz is enlightening, and I very much enjoy the parentheticals.

2. Vote. It all seriously just comes down to this.

3. Speaking of, here is an excellent voter registration action plan.

4. Yep, I pretty much relate to all of these tweets.

5. This is amazing to me. Maybe we can all learn from wolves. (Okay, this proved to be a hoax but STILL)

6. Who wants to join me on this road trip?

7. Apparently, this is the best new green foundation in the entirety of the universe. Got some on the way and will report back.

8. If you come over to my house, you can bet my cocktails will make you do this.

9. When you disapprove of young people, you’re in the wrong, because you are going to die and they will write history.

10. The bralettes from this brand are everything. (Even for the bustier types…32D over here!) Use the code LIVELYREP_SARAH to get $10 off your order.

11. On this week’s Selfie podcast, we talk about self-care in the online world and how we protect ourselves. We also talk to Kelly Beall about her own self-care rituals.

Happy Friday! Spring Break starts in a few hours for us!

I really wish more green beauty brands would have a more inclusive foundation shade range for POC. I find ilia sadly lacking. I am a pale princess but I still try to only support inclusive companies. Just my two cents. Great odds and ends as always!

I enjoyed taking the quiz (I got a 31), but I found its conflation of race, class, and education a little unsettling. The union meetings I’ve been to have been majority people of color, and often majority women. The people marching in LGBT rights marches are not always magically different from the people on a union picket line or eating at Applebee’s.

Especially being part the oft-discussed “Millennial” generation, I know a lot of “second gen middle class” folks with college degrees who are never going to have the middle class life of their parents, much less make it to the “upper middle class” financially. No matter how much avocado toast they eat.

I do get frustrated when people who haven’t grown up in a community with Evangelical Christians judge them unequivocally for being wrong about everything they are wrong about. (As a queer Christian woman from the south, I feel like I have the ability to both understand and judge the failings of contemporary american christianity.) And this quiz is right to point that out as a part of a bubble! BUT the folks I grew up with also grew up in a bubble. I don’t think I’d met someone who was Jewish or even more than a couple of Catholic people until I moved in junior high school. I certainly hadn’t met any out queer people, or had a close friendship with someone who wasn’t white. I think anyone who scores really high on that quiz might well live in a different bubble.

oof, here’s the bio on the author of the quiz: https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/extremist-files/individual/charles-murray

I’m not sure that Libertarian is really the only description for someone who uses “racist pseudoscience and misleading statistics to argue that social inequality is caused by the genetic inferiority of the black and Latino communities, women and the poor.” Not sure if you were aware of the author’s potential intentions re: this quiz?

I have the SAME feeling when I make my friends a drink. Some gin, some ice, some more gin, a slice of lime, cucumber or grapefruit (depending on the gin, of course), some more gin, and a tiny bit of tonic.
