Hair Thursday is going to be late due to the fact that I’m leaving for Boston at 5:45 IN THE MORNING. I’m not sure if you have noticed with Daylight Savings Time, but 5:45 IN THE MORNING is a very dark time. Very night-like.
My current packing situation looks like this:
In clockwise order from top left: D’s pile of shit, Whoorl’s pile of shit, Wito’s pile of shit.
This East Coast weather thing has me all sorts of confused. Temperature in the 40’s, possibly the 50’s, possible rain, possible snow, possible sun, possible wind gusts, possible GOD HELP ME JUST TELL ME WHAT TO WEAR.
All of my shoes were meant to be worn on bare feet. I don’t have socks, people. This is one of the side effects of living in the land of warm sunshine. You abandon socks! The liberation!
I was advised to bring gloves. Negative, Ghostrider. In fact, I don’t even own a winter coat that isn’t under 6 years old.
Anyhoo, mass confusion at this here point in time.
Maybe I’ll finish Hair Thursday tomorrow night when it’s midnight and I’m wondering why I can’t sleep.
(Another stressful issue: It is almost midnight in Boston! Yet, I just ate dinner here! Confusion!)

March 13, 2008 at 5:16 amHopefully everything worked out – fortunately Boston is not a tiny town in Tuscany where they only sell fabulous pashminas and olive oil. If you need something when you get there, just deal with buying it there and hope there’s room in your luggage when you get home. No need to stress! (says the person who currently has an 82 item list for her upcoming vacation to similarly odd-weathered canada)

March 13, 2008 at 6:15 amI always feel bad for people traveling to Boston and checking the weather, because we cannot tell you what to pack. Pack everything. You might need all of it. Yesterday it was sunny, then snowing, then cloudy and cold, then sort of warmish and sunny again, then snowing, then sunny but cold. All in the span of 8 hours.
I will say that in my opinion, margalit is insane, and you need socks. But I will also echo metalia and say that we have stores here! So you can buy things you don’t have or forgot. But if you’re freezing and want to buy a winter coat, you’re probably out of luck since the stores are all stocking spring clothes now.

March 13, 2008 at 6:36 amYou can live without the gloves…really. I’m in Cleveland (same wacky weather) and you can get away with a coat and long sleeves. Thats what crazy winter-in-to-spring weather means for me every year: Long sleeves, normally light long sleeves, with a good coat. Check and check. You probably don’t need a big stock of sweaters is what I’m getting at here, as long as you have a coat. Um, but the sock thing? You’ll definitely need some of those! Do NOT bring shoes that you don’t want to get wet!!!!…your feet will be wet at some point. Promise. This coming from a girl with a big shoe “problem” (crazy love of shoes), you don’t want to ruin your cute flats, mama!

I always seem to visit in the fall and winter and feel like a total frump because I have to wear every single warm item of clothing that I own . . . all at the same time. Pretty much the dilemma is this: everywhere else in the country is either way hotter or way colder, and also much more formal/dressy, than here. Everyone’s so fancy! And it’s so hot! Or so cold! And there’s humidity and weather! My diamond shoes are too tight!

March 13, 2008 at 11:34 amPretty much echoing what every other Boston resident said above, but… No, we don’t think it’s that bad. Yes, you probably will. Just remember that in our minds, the snow has pretty much melted so that means it must be like 80 degrees. Nevermind that it’s actually still cold, and windy, and rainy/snowy/sleeting -we shall WILL IT TO BE WARM. It might work, one of these days.
