Hair Thursday Coming Soon…Packing Hysteria Takes Precedence

Hair Thursday is going to be late due to the fact that I’m leaving for Boston at 5:45 IN THE MORNING. I’m not sure if you have noticed with Daylight Savings Time, but 5:45 IN THE MORNING is a very dark time. Very night-like.

My current packing situation looks like this:

pack.jpg

In clockwise order from top left: D’s pile of shit, Whoorl’s pile of shit, Wito’s pile of shit.

This East Coast weather thing has me all sorts of confused. Temperature in the 40’s, possibly the 50’s, possible rain, possible snow, possible sun, possible wind gusts, possible GOD HELP ME JUST TELL ME WHAT TO WEAR.

All of my shoes were meant to be worn on bare feet. I don’t have socks, people. This is one of the side effects of living in the land of warm sunshine. You abandon socks! The liberation!

I was advised to bring gloves. Negative, Ghostrider. In fact, I don’t even own a winter coat that isn’t under 6 years old.

Anyhoo, mass confusion at this here point in time.

Maybe I’ll finish Hair Thursday tomorrow night when it’s midnight and I’m wondering why I can’t sleep.

(Another stressful issue: It is almost midnight in Boston! Yet, I just ate dinner here! Confusion!)

I fear you and your fab hair are going to freeze your heiny off!

(On the other hand, you have a rocking Argyle sweater in that pile, so at least you’ll freeze looking adorable.)

Um, that’s Wito’s sweater. I just labeled the photo…you know, because I don’t have any PRESSING ISSUES. (Also dealing with issues of procrastination over here.)

i wear flats when there is no rain or snow, as to not ruin, my feet don’t get that cold. remember the person you are visiting is on her own little schedule that can make for a later start in the morning.

I live in Boston and I don’t own a pair of socks. Really. Never ever wear them. In the cold and snowy part of winter I wear uggs. Shut up. If you lived here you would wear them too. It’s like wearing warm cozy slippers in the snow. Without socks.

Once the snow disappears I wear my wool clogs. Stegmans. No socks. Warm as toast.

When it gets springy, I rock the crocs or wear my low blacks.

When it gets hot, sandals and flip flops.

    See, no need for socks.

Where in Boston are you going to be?

Hm… if I’m not mistaken, those appear to be JCrew flats. I got a similar pair a few months ago in that kickin’ color.

I live in Boston and I don’t even own a pair of gloves! You definitely don’t need them. A trench, maybe some sweaters, shirts to layer under and you’ll be good! It’s supposed to rain and be in the 40’s-50’s this weekend. At least it’s not snowing!

I love that the Easterners are telling you you will be fine. And like all winter people they (and I) are fine without gloves and socks. But, you Whoorl are a California Girl and although you might make it, you may be just a little happier with at least one pair of socks and something warm for your hands. Boston is great, you’ll love it, but it is definitely not as warm as California :).

Only six years old? That’s not so bad for a coat (then again, I’m no fashion plate). Could be worse — you could be bringing along one of those fluorescent Sun Ice coats from my youth. (Maybe that bit of nostalgia only works on Canadians?)

Judging by the weather we have up here in very-much-Eastern Canada, the weather in Boston is likely to be chilly and wet. I feel for your toes (as you likely will soon).

Hmm..not to stress you out further Whoorl but I agree with BeachMama above. I think you’d be happier with at least one pair of socks and some gloves. As for the rest, you can layer your sweater, coat, etc. – and if you have a pashmina-type scarf that would be good too! Good luck!

Oh, you’re gonna be fine; even if you forgot something it turns out you need, Boston has some fabulous shopping (e.g., Newbury Street, where I just spent WAY TOO MUCH MONEY).

My only advice to you is this: Don’t do what I did, and wear flats without socks to the airport. Because then you’ll have to walk barefoot on the airport floor while your shoes go through security, and you will die a little inside.

    Have a great trip!

Perhaps they’ll sell socks and gloves at the airport.

Ha ha HAAAA. I know it’s too late, but dude, I am one of those Easterners from Boston and I’m telling you, as a recent Floridian-turned-Vermonter: you will not be fine without preparation. And gloves. And warm sweaters. And good heavens, you need more than a trench.

Jealous you’re going to Boston when I’m no longer there! Vermont is a twinge far :)
