Calling All Nursing Fashion Aficionados!

Yes, I still adore my Target nursing tanks, BUT I would love to find some nursing tops that have more coverage than a spaghetti strap on top. A tank with more shoulder coverage? A short sleeve top? A crossover top that doesn’t stretch out? ANYTHING?

I don’t mind wearing a regular shirt and hoisting it up around the house, but pulling up my shirt in public places (even with my nursing cover) leaves my back exposed and it drives me crazy. (Layering isn’t an option right now because it’s too hot.)

I like this for Fall, but we still have a couple months of heat around here.

$34.50, Gap

Any suggestions? I got excited about this simple, inexpensive top from Old Navy until I realized that the straps were spaghetti-width in the back. How does that work with a bra exactly? (Uh, it doesn’t.)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

(UPDATE: I’m checking out all of your suggestions, but just found these cute henleys on final sale for $12.99 from J. Crew. They look a little low in the front, so pairing them with a nursing tank might be key. Bought three colors! Get ’em while you can!)

(YET ANOTHER UPDATE: If you are looking for some tanks, Zulily has up to 70% off nursing wear from GLAMOURMOM!)

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD. They’re $60 each. Sorry dude.

I know! I checked them out after a couple people recommended them, but WHOAH. 60 bones for a tee?

i love tunics that button down the front then you can either pull up if at home or where your nursing cover and everything is dandy. i always wore them on the plane and no one ever gave me weird looks.

I feel your pain. I’ve searched high and low for nursing apparel that isn’t totally fugly and/or uncomfortable… sadly I don’t think such thing exists. I just layer an ultra-lightweight cardigan over my tank and call it good. I live in coastal SoCal as well and this combo isn’t too unbearable.

No suggestions, but thanks for the post! As a first time mama who is buying new clothes to fit her post baby bod (and boobs) I was eager to read the suggestions!

i’m 10 months into nursing my second and i’ve come to the conclusion that all nursing clothes suck …big time. i actually have that shirt from the gap in black and no…not good! the combo that i have found to be the best is to wear my bella band from my early pregnancy days around my midriff, then just a ribbed tank (i have a ton of them from old navy) and a zipped lightweight hoody. unzip hood, pull tank up, bella band covers back and midriff. OR just pull your tank down and your boob out the top of the tank! if you do find the perfect nursing clothes let us know…not that i’ll need it – two babies is enough for me and at this point…no more nursing top or bra trials for me!

I had something similar to this tank from Motherhood a few years ago and I LOVED it. It had enough support to go without a bra and it was cheap!

Nursing tanks and cardigans are my go-to. Anything with a deep v-neck or stretchy neckline works too.

Jo off of A Cup of Jo linked to this brand of nursing tees, tanks and tops! I can’t vouch for them myself, but there is at least one new mom who is happy with them in bloggo land! :)

I tryed on the Target tank, but alas, you are wrong-they are not the best-sorry. La Leche makes nursing tanks that are way more supportive for a little bit more-25-30$. plain, come in black, grey and white-I found them at lactation services in the hospital-you can also find them online at La Leche. I always put a cardigan over my tanks to make them look less nursingish-short sleeved or sleevless cardigans-that way no belly exposure in public when you use a cover.

I saw your tweet about Milkstars and then my pregnant brain forgot to respond.

For nursing tops, I LOVE Isabella Oliver. They don’t actually look like nursing tops, which I love (link below).

Most of the ones out there, Boob, Momzelle, are great, but definitely look like nursing tops with the top “shelf.” I use them for at home and/or travel when I need easy access.

I tend to just live in Glamourmom Bra Tanks that are LONG (love that) and have thicker straps. When I go out, I layer them and they work well.

The best shirts I have found are lower cut and/or criss/cross regular shirts – I have a few from JCrew and others from the Gap. Those over a tank and that’s my wardrobe.
