My 2012 resolution is to embrace my natural texture, and here are some of the products I’m currently using.
Redken All Soft Shampoo and Conditioner
Pantene Beautiful Lengths Smoothing Balm
Oribe Supershine Moisturizing Cream
Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment
Some of the products in the video were provided to me free of charge, and some I purchased with my own money. All opinions are my own.

January 20, 2012 at 8:56 amMy hair is on the curlier side of the wave spectrum, if you will (not spirals by any means, but not loose beach waves like yours, either). I use Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal oil on damp hair, then a spritz of hairspray and scrunch it. OR I use Garnier Pure Clean Smoothing Balm, which weighs my hair down a bit, so I usually combine this w/ mousse at my roots to counteract the balm weight. I can’t comb my hair at all ever if I want it to be wavy or curly, as combing even with my fingers makes my hair separate into almost individual, unruly frizz strands. Not a good look.

January 20, 2012 at 12:16 pmMy hair is very similar to yours in texture. I am trying to like it more too! It is a bit easier as my hair gets longer.
I love the Macadamia Oil too. I put that on pretty much no matter what I am doing with my hair (I find it great for when I am blowdrying AND airdrying). I also like the Bumble and Bumble Brilliantine cream which I sometimes mix a little bit with their styling cream and then air dry. That seems to work well for me.

January 20, 2012 at 3:41 pmGreat suggestions, I too have wavy hair. When it air dries it turns frizzy, so these are great product tips .
And I admit, I totally have overused the flat iron and curling iron, which is probably not helping things!
As far as products, I also love the Enjoy Smooth and Shine. It helps my frizz and is not greasy or oily.
My friend recently gave me a small sample of the Macadamia as well – and I LOVE it too!

January 20, 2012 at 3:49 pmThank you! Thank you for posting this! I can’t only really achieve tighter curls as my hair is also on the curlier side of the spectrum. I like the TIGI curl products for that. I haven’t really been able to achieve beach waves without using a flat-iron to curl it, which kind of defeats the purpose…

January 20, 2012 at 6:38 pmMy hair is very thick and not straight, not curly but has a bit of a wave. I hardly ever have time to blow dry before work so usually air dry my hair with a bit of the argon oil worked through while wet. This and a moisturizing shampoo/conditioner have improved the health of my hair but it still gets frizzy when it’s dry. The oil placed on my dry hair just seems to sit on top of it and never blend in. I’ll have to try your balm method on wet hair and the oil when ALMOST dry!

January 21, 2012 at 6:52 pmWe share the same hair texture, but my layers are finally grown out (well, I have bangs, and there are a couple of shorter pieces around my face). And I, too, try to lay off the blow-dryer and flat iron, saving the super straight looks for maybe once every couple of weeks. I really like Bumble and Bumble’s Curl Conscious Calming Creme. The product is supposed to work wonders for people with tight curls, but it does a nice job on hair that has looser curls/waves like ours—nice definition, no frizz, a bit of shine. I usually apply the B&B to damp hair, air dry, and then lightly spray some Alterna Kendi oil on my hair to give a bit more shine and softness. Sometimes, I switch up the Kendi and go for Fekkai’s Glossing Cream. This is my routine for playing up the curl/wave. I usually just clip my bangs to the side with a bobby pin (I work at home, so I don’t even bother with styling them when I air dry).

January 21, 2012 at 10:40 pmI will bookmark this post in my iPhone so I can be prepared the next time I’m at the beauty product store!
I have thick, coarse hair – not straight, but not curly…there’s definitely a wave thing going on though. I too love the Aveda ‘Be Curly’ and I also use it in combo with Josie Maran’s Argan oil. Love it.
Do you ever use any type of hair masques? If so, what do you recommend?

January 21, 2012 at 11:48 pmWow. We have the exact. same. hair. I guess I never realized until I saw it au naturale. I too am embracing the air dry, although I absolutely insist on blowdrying the front/bangs. And if I really want to make it nice I’ll take a curling iron to a few top pieces after it’s dried to reduce a bit of frizz and I’ve been getting tons of compliments. Funnily enough, I discovered Treseme (ooh la la) does Amazing things for my hair. I bought it purely for smell reasons when pregnant and everything was making me sick but it ending up completely changing my hair texture. I use the anti-breakage shampoo and conditioner and sometimes the heat tamer or even mousse for curls in the summer. Who knew something so cheap could be so awesome. Thanks for all the product tips though. I may need to branch out.

February 8, 2012 at 3:16 pmThanks for sharing – the texture of your hair looks great. Naturally wavy hair is rarely given as much attention as super-straight or curly.

April 5, 2012 at 5:56 pmDe-lurking here……I have wavy/curly hair and I absolutely can’t live without Aussie’s Catch the Wave Mousse + Leave in conditioner. The best part is that it’s so inexpensive. My hair is so soft, not crunchy or greasy at all. I’ve wasted too much money on expensive stuff in the past.
