The ‘Karlie’ Chop – Haircut of the Year?

karlie

It seems I’m not the only one feeling shorter hair these days. According to The New York Times, model Karlie Kloss’s new chop is the haircut of the year. Vogue declared it the “cut of the moment” in a four-page feature story in the January issue, saying “the season’s new hair is swingy, sexy — and refreshingly easy to wear.”

I adore it, but donning a chin-length cut in the past, I know they aren’t the easiest to style day in and day out. I’m not sure “refreshingly easy to wear” is completely accurate. What do you all think? I know that if my hair looked like that every day with minimal effort, I would do it in a second!

I LOVE a good bob and I love it on myself. However, easy to maintain is absolute horse shit. Currently growing my hair out Crystal Gayle style so I can’t quite get on board with this year’s trend. Maybe in a few years.

I guess I’m the minority! My naturally very strait but full hair drys beautifully at chin length. I’m at an angled bob ala Keira Knightley in her Christmas Chanel ad right now and it’s the most wash and wear style I’ve ever had. Left to it’s own devices its’ smooth and a little bubbly, but with surf spray or texturizers it will take the shape Karlie’s has air dried. BUT, I actually don’t love the Karlie cut anyway, so I spend most of my time lightly flipping my ends under. I guess no one ever likes what their hair does naturally, huh? haha!

I totally think that cut is easy to wear. I have my (naturally wavy/straightens easily) hair cut into a bob right now, and all I do is use Curl Conscious Creme, diffuse for a minute, and head to work. On day two, I perk the waves back up with some Argan Oil Bohemian Waves spray.

^Just want to add, I had long hair until August 2012, and while I convinced myself that sock buns, ballet buns and ponys were a legit look, I feel WAY more put together with an actual style, especially since it happens to work well with my natural texture.

My hair is thick and wavy so I’ve had long hair (past my shoulders) all of my life. I have two little ones, so this past April, I decided to take the plunge and experience this new “refreshingly easy to wear” hair style. I chopped off my hair into a collarbone-length, bob-style cut. It was super cute! But it was a nightmare to style. It required a blow dryer and flat iron every time I wanted to look presentable, and with (at the time) an infant and a two-year-old, that was just not realistic. I’m letting it grow back out again, but I think I’ll revisit the short style when my girls are a bit older and more self-sufficient. Hopefully by then I’ll have a few minutes to myself in the mornings, so styling my hair everyday won’t be such a buden.

Yes! I cut my hair like that two years ago (https://whoorl.com/archives/6900) and it was so much harder to style than long hair. That’s why if I cut mine off, I’m going all the way! :)

I can’t wait to see what you decide to do! Your hair’s texture is so similar to mine that you may inspire me to re-visit a short style sooner than anticipated ;)
