I Need Snacking Ideas STAT.

That button is genius, right? Thanks for the nice comments about my belly, by the way. I have to admit my favorite was an incoming link about how good I looked for 19 months pregnant. 19 MONTHS pregnant? Hell, I LOOK FANTASTIC.

The belly is definitely popping, which is perfectly coinciding with my incessant need to graze like a cow all day long. Speaking of…

(SEGUE!)

I love to prep. I love to cook. I love to eat. I HATE TO PLAN MY MEALS.

I’ve talked about this before, and how the Relish System totally saved my ass in the kitchen. Seriously, you guys. I’ve been consistently using their menus and grocery lists on a weekly basis for almost 2 years. 2 years! That right there is true love in my books, for the last time I showed that level and length of commitment was to my Duran Duran poster (MARRY ME, NICK RHODES!!!) from 1982 to 1984.

Back to the planning thing. Although I have my dinners beautifully covered on a weekly basis, I am still falling short on planning/purchasing items for other meals, such as snacks. Seeing as I feel the need to eat a little something, oh, about every 26 minutes, I am at a loss as to what I should buy for healthy snacks in between meals. Right now, I am eating more baby carrots and radishes than you can shake a stick at. I am turning a lovely shade of rosy orange, though!

What are some of your favorite moderately healthy snacks to keep around the house? Help me! DO IT FOR THE BABY.

    An apple with almond butter (from Traders). My all time favorite snack . . . eat it everyday . . . . and never tire of it! Plus an apple a day keeps the doc away : )

    When I was pregnant my snack of choice was an apple with peanut butter – good protein and fiber to get you through the afternoon slump. I also felt tons better if I had some kind of protein for breakfast, so a breakfast burrito with black beans was key for me. Yogurt is good, especially if you add almonds and dried fruit.

    I cannot get enough of Special K Multi Grain crackers (original flavor). I am also preggers, but I loved them before!

    Wow a lot of people gave out good ideas. Maybe I should save this link just for myself when I get pregnant someday. Won’t happen for a few more years though, at least not a planned one. :)

    Since it will be getting a lot warmer as your pregnancy progresses, why not keep some frozen snacks in mind? I fell completely in love with frozen red grapes last year. And cutting up strawberries into smaller pieces and putting it in the freezer for a short while, but not quite frozen. And sometimes I’ll put a little bowl of orange juice or two and then eat them frozen. I don’t know, I just love frozen fruits?! Maybe it’s because I was born and raised in Texas and have to deal with the hot humidity. :)

    I was going to say smoothies and see some others have said that as well. Smoothies have been a go to the last couple of weeks for everyone in my house since I read Mir’s tips for smoothies over at wantnot.net. YUMMY!

    I work in a health food store so I have like exactly the opposite problem, too many snack food options. Although my midwife said my weight gain was really moderate for 29 weeks so I went and had In-and-Out for lunch. Way to go me.

    I second the kale chips but they are so good I’ll eat the whole bag, same problem with veggie booty and nori snacks. I really like wasa crispbread which in itself is kind of super duper tasteless and dry, its a great base for just about anything, cheese, bananas and yogurt or peanut butter, tomatoes, etc.

    I’ve been taking advantage of all the local citrus right now too, grapefruit, mandarin, oranges clementines galore. Also pears and apples. I recently tried Kind Bars which are like adult granola bars, yummy. Cookies… What, you can’t be good all the time!

    string cheese, almonds, muffins (homemade with light sugar), fruit smoothies with protein powder, hard boiled eggs, turkey bacon.

    As someone who was there really recently: string cheese, trail mix (we made our own, a mix of unsalted nuts, dried cranberries, and chocolate chips), yogurt, cold red grapes, luna bars, Hershey’s miniatures (this could get dangerous, though), hard-boiled eggs, hummus and pita or carrots, apple with peanut butter or cheddar cheese, a bowl of cereal (I loved the variety packs of mini sugar cereals). And Bubbie’s pickles.

    I ate a LOT when I was pregnant. When I wasn’t sleeping, anyway – hence the blog name. Only gained 23 pounds!

    I kept a box of those go-gurt yogurt tubes in the freezer. I was at the “uncomfortably pregnant” stage in the dead hot, humid part of a New Jersey summer. Loved those frosty yogurt snacks. And it’s kinda healthy. Doesn’t sound like the best idea now (it’s 19 degrees outside!), but July is just around the corner.

    On a more indulgent note, Kashi’s Tasty Little Cookies are divine. Dark chocolate oatmeal rocks my world. I serve them with a big glass of milk to feel more heathy. Also another vote for the Sahale Snacks.

    A little bit before you want to snack (or the night before) put about a 1/3 c. of Light and Fit vanilla yogurt in a container with a handful of frozen blueberries. The blueberries will thaw a bit overnight. Then add a scoop of whatever low-fat granola you like. It is so very good and REALLY filling.

    Also, I love me some what toast with a little peanut or almond butter, sliced bananas and a drizzle of honey. HELLO!

    I hear ya sister! i hate planning my meals but sometime you just gotta do it. Especially when the baby comes, life gets hectic and planning can be helpful! I like celeri with cream cheese/carrots with peanut butter, stuff like that!

    I had the same thought as your other readers: Hummus, hummus, hummus. My favorite is Sabra brand with extra tahini, but since they don’t sell that particular kind of Sabra here, I eat the Sabra brand with extra garlic. Other deliciousness for snacks: Cashew butter. Yum. 10oz of cashews (I prefer salted and roasted, but you can use raw), 1/3 cup of grapeseed or walnut oil, 2 tablespoons of agave or honey. Pulse in your food processor. My husband likes this warmed and on bananas. My mom likes this so much that she requested that I send a Youtube video of me putting together the recipe (primarily because she doesn’t know how to put together her food processor.) Other snacks: Crusty bread with a small wedge of cheese, popcorn, and grilled peaches. My favorite way to prepare peaches: In a hot skillet, toss in some sliced peaches. Then take your favorite balsamic vinegar, twice around the pan (I like pomegranate) with a little bit of agave. Speaking of pomegranates, there’s always pomegranates with cottage cheese. And lastly, my favorite snack is fresh greens, balsamic vinegar and oil and a light sprinkling of goat cheese.

    My latest snack obsession is hard boiled eggs – I make them on Sunday and then enjoy all week long.
