Bronze Smoky Eye Tutorial

bronze smoky eye tutorial

Here’s the deal – I can’t rock a smoky eye. At least, I can’t rock most smoky eye looks. Anything involving black or plum or dark navy instantly transforms me into a brothel inhabitant, so I steer very clear. However, I’ve been experimenting with metallics lately, and have found a really pretty (and fairly subtle) bronze look that suits my day-to-day grind. Wanna see? Let’s do this thing!

First, be sure to prep your face for the day (or night) by using your foundation, tinted moisturizer, and/or concealer. I usually apply foundation sparingly to certain areas and concealer underneath my eyes.

cg1

Apply bronze eye shadow to your lid and your crease. I am using CoverGirl Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Melted Caramel #330.
Inspired by fire, the CoverGirl flaming femme color palette ranges from flames to ashes. I love this shadow because you can build up the intensity easily to really pack a punch or keep it subtle for day.

cg2

I always move my brush back and forth in a half-moon shape in my crease to create definition on my eyelids.

cg3

Here’s a look at both bronzed lids.

cg4

Using a smaller brush, apply the same bronze color to the base of the lashes.

cg5

After you’ve finished adding the bronze to both eyes (top and bottom), apply a little bit of black or dark brown liner to the waterline.

cg7

Just that little bit of liner adds such intensity right?

cg8

Mascara time. Don’t forget to curl the lashes!

cg9

Okay, you guys. I am seriously impressed with the Flamed Out Mascara. The unique wire brush (it’s kind of twisty) coats your lashes for some serious volume. I used the Very Black Blaze shade.

cg10

Take a look for yourself.

cg11

WHOAH, am I right? That stuff makes your lashes go up, up, up.

After applying mascara, there’s one more secret step. I apply a little bit of shimmery shadow in the inner corners of my eyes. I swear it instantly makes you look more awake and well rested. I used the CoverGirl Flamed Out Shadow Pencil in Crystal Flame #305 – it’s really creamy and goes on smoothly.

cg12

After finishing the eyes, I applied a bit of bronzer on my cheeks, a pinkish-nude lip gloss on my lips, gave my hair a little spritz of beach spray, and voilá! Easy breezy.

cg13

So, here’s the best part. Giveaway time! I’m giving away a collection of 6 CoverGirl Flamed Out products, as well as a $100 gift card to ULTA Beauty. Just found TerraTints by Alba Botanica (it’s a colored gloss in a chapstick tube w/spf 15), that I am in LOVE with that is already my summer make-up staple! ($2.99 at Mother’s right now – I got it in “bloom”)

Cover Girl was one of the first makeup brands I ever used, I’m so glad to see this! I do love the Diorshow Extase which I thought was way too expensive but now I love it for summer and all seasons, really.

I love NARS tinted moisturizer and Cover Girl really has great and lasting under eye concealer.
Also, just to add to the tutorial–I follow this routine on a daily basis but add liner to just the very corner of my top lid, it really adds a subtle but sexy finish to the eye.

I need this! As someone who owns only a few essentials (mascara, eye shadow, and lip balm), I definitely need to stock my makeup supply. I’m about to go into the workforce after graduating with my degree, and I want to look fresh & professional!

What lip gloss did you use in that photo? So pretty!!

I worry about using bronze with blonde hair/fair complexion…I feel like it would make me look orange/yellow? Or am I just clueless?

My must-have for the summer is a good primer to smooth my complexion and make my pores disappear!

I am usually not a CG eyeshadow fan (an Urban Decay lover) but I love the look on you!

Thank you for tacking the smokey eye challenge! I’ve not done well with it myself. My eyes just look sunken and messy…maybe user error, plus my age? I think this is a very do-able, and I just appreciate that you took on such a popular look, and tweaked it to make it more wearable. Bravo!!
