Whoorl Studio Tour

In the fall of 2020, I moved to a brand new studio in midtown Oklahoma City for work and it’s been such a positive change in my day-to-day life. I thought I would give you a virtual tour of my home away from home, designed by my talented interior designer (and husband), Dustin Dorr.

Whoorl Studio Tour

Sized at approximately 500 square feet, I wanted to incorporate a work area, a cozy sitting area, and of course, lots of room for beauty products!

Here are some photos before the install.

One of my top priorities was effectively using the space in the back of the studio for the all of the products that are sent my way for testing. I wanted a high-quality, modern, modular shelving system and I’m so happy I found Floyd shelving units because they tick all the boxes. This unit was gifted – thank you so much, Floyd!

I decided on three tall shelving units with the center one featuring the lower cabinet add-on. The cool thing is when it comes to modularity, your options are limitless. You can start with one base shelf and add expansion units and add-ons to build a shelving system that works perfectly in your space – either now or in the future. Each expansion unit connects to your existing base, so it’s super easy to modify as your needs change.

It took less than an hour for Dustin and I to set up the shelves and it was a super straightforward process, thanks to the videos provided on the website.

What I noticed the most about these shelves is the quality. The birch plywood comes in an ash or walnut finish (I chose ash), and the shelves are durable powder-coated steel. I think we’ve all bought shelving in the past in which the shelves themselves have been wood or plastic…I was actually shocked when I pulled a shelf out of the Floyd box and noticed its quality and heft. You definitely get what you pay for in this situation – the shelves are incredible.

I love the enduring and thoughtful design and the Floyd Shelving System has a 10-year warranty, which is not too shabby.

And filling them up took no time at all.

The next best thing we did in terms of functionality was adding a drapery panel on a tension cord to hide the sink/cabinet situation behind it and give me the ability to close off that space when things get a little messy back there.

As for the front area, I am in love!

It’s such a wonderful spot to spend my workdays.

And let us not forget my favorite piece of sculptural art that makes its appearance in my daily style posts on Instagram…is it an artwork of knots and macrame or a Scorpio-inspired sex swing? ONLY I KNOW THE SECRETS TO THE BLACK PIECE IN THE CORNER.

Joking aside, this gorgeous piece was created by my friend Jim Olarte specifically for that (previously lonely) little corner and it just makes my heart happy.

By the way, I didn’t source anything within this post because the vast majority is vintage. However, If there is something specific you are curious about, feel free to ask me in the comments.

All in all, the studio has truly become my happy place and bright spot during these crazy times.

The Gerk in me wants to know what type of computer you use?

Wow! It’s a beautifully curated space. I’m swooning over so many pieces, but the pink coat rack in particular captured my heart.

Robin – I have a Macbook Pro and hook it up to an LG monitor while at work.

Hi Glenda! Dustin found that coat rack while vintage shopping – it was bright yellow, but we had it painted that lovely shade of pink.

What a truly gorgeous space! I’d love to hear more about your decision making process around renting a studio-was there a particular business milestone that made it clear that this was the right time to invest in a dedicated space? I find the mechanics behind business decisions to be fascinating!

Thank you, Nicole! Yes, there was a certain financial threshold that I reached that made it wise to increase my business expenses, so a commercial lease fit the bill perfectly. And it’s been a real win-win because my business productivity has shot through the roof since I moved in.

Congrats!!! Is the space in a commercial, outdoor mall kind of area? What are the neighbors like?

It’s two buildings, each with about 8 suites. The vast majority are woman-owned small businesses and it’s a creative mecca. My neighbors are all incredible!
