Men’s Summer Hairstyles

Richard needs your help!

This very patient man has been on my waiting list for over a year and sent me another update this morning.

I’ve got three months of new growth here, and am at that “in between” stage where I’m either going long or cutting it off ….  It’s four inches long on top and between three and four most everywhere else, and as wavy as usual…. I was all set to cut it off until a stylist mentioned that I have nice wavy hair, and how she has all these clients growing their hair who shouldn’t, but I should.

If I cut it, I will cut at least three inches (maybe more – I’m not a halfway kind of guy!), and that’s six months to get it back, so that’s the only reason I’m hoping you have time for a quick response…. If I cut it now, I will grow it back with the Eric Bana look in mind for the fall…

The gist of the matter is whether or not Richard should chop it all off or keep growing. After looking at photos of very short haircuts sent to me by Richard, I don’t think a super short haircut is the way to go. Richard has a nice wave pattern, so there shouldn’t be a need for him to chop off his waves completely.

Take a look at my options for Richard. (With Eric Bana in mind…)

Option #1 shortens the sides considerably, but leaves enough length on top to show off Richard’s waves.

Option #2 is an all-around longer look. Richard would need to continue growing the back of his hair for a little while longer while cleaning up the top and sides.

What do you think? Richard really wants to know!

    Option 2 is sexy.

I really like option 2, however, I think 1 is likely easier to keep up.

I would go with Option 1, but I think that longish hair in general looks very silly on guys. It’s a personal preference. :)

Oh, I hate being this person, but Google was largely useless so…who’s Eric Dana?

Eric BANA. Sorry, little typo there.

Option #1: Easy to maintain, hip but not in a trying too hard type of way, and should require less product minimizing the crunchiness of hair.

Oh, Option 2, since you’re so close, then can always cut back to Option 1 later.

Option #1 – not sure I agree about not going shorter. It’s summer, and wavy hair can be a chore – go shorter and more texturized, it’s a cooler look (just keep it smooth and don’t get clippers involved).

I was referring to a super short haircut (like a buzz) in my post – obviously, Option #1 would look great on Richard or I wouldn’t have picked it. Totally agree about summer.

Door number 2! It’s that sexy, casual European-look that Richard can totally pull off.

    Number twwooooo!!! Definitely.

Richard is a nice looking man, but #2 seems a bit much of a… too young look for him. Number One with a bit of a not-too-greasy product would look nice on him.

I went for option #1. I also think #2 is a little bit young for Richard.

I prefer #1. My issue with #2 isn’t so much age as “trying too hard.” If you feel like having to be 100% on your game every single day of your life, and don’t mind hours of styling just to look unstyled, then you might be able to pull it off, but #1 would be a lot easier to keep looking good (and non-silly) on an everyday basis.

Well, considering the parade of hotties that Eric Bana seems to co-star with, I would think any haircut that compares you to him would be A-OK, but if I have to choose…#2…you are half way there, finish what you started…I don’t think the look is too young..

Wow. It’s a little hard to vote for Option #1 because the Option #2 picture is SO DANG SEXY. That said, I won’t be swayed – I think Option #1 is best. Richard can always go shorter for summer, and grow it out in the winter.

Definitely #1 all the way–professional and yet fun!

    I voted for #1.

But what I really want to vote for is more Eric Bana.
