Hair Thursday Part Two: More Phlegm Than Ever!

Take a look at our next participant, Tiffany (and her boyfriend).

(This reminds me. I prefer individual photos to be larger than this, considering I am so far-sighted it’s embarrassing. Yes, I have to put on glasses to read the menus at dining establishments and I’m THIRTY-THREE. Bifocals before forty, here I come!)

Here’s an excerpt from Tiffany’s email:

If I’m doing anything even remotely important, it takes me at least an hour and twenty minutes to get ready. You know, I need to shower, check some blogs, blow dry my hair, WHICH TAKES FOREVER (and, by the way, I blow it out for a few minutes with a regular blow dryer, and then flip my hair upside down and blow it straight with a blow dryer that has a brush-thing on the end). THEN, I pull the crown-part of my hair up and round brush it under the blow dryer. This is the only piece of hair that gets this special treatment. THEN I flat iron the pieces that fall around my face, in an attempt to keep them from getting frizzy. This seldom works. and THEN I put hot rollers in ( I use 5) to keep the ends bouncy. This also seldom works. As you can see, i am in desperate need of help.

Whoah, Tiffany! That’s a lot of work for a hairstyle you don’t particularly love!

First things first. Tiffany, I’m thinking REALLY red.

Secondly, Tiffany MUST cut some more layers all over her hair. Judging from the second (tiny!) photo, the hair is just too bulky. It needs to be freed! Texturize! Texturize!

Third, she should take off about 3-4 inches off the bottom.

Fourth, lose the blow dryer with the brush attachment. Tiffany should use the her regular blow dryer and a round brush with a flat iron touch-up on “normal” days. For special occasions, use the hot rollers all over the head or a curling iron.

I think a color change and layering around the face alone will make the biggest difference. Tiffany, let me ask you, what does your hair look like air-dried? Is it straight? Wavy? If you do have a subtle wave pattern, the layers could help give some bounce, and you could forego the blow-drying altogether on some days.

Here are the options.

I love both of these similar cuts for Tiffany and I adore the red hair color. Is it too much of a change for Tiffany? Has the cold medicine thrown me over the edge? I don’t know.

What do you think?

Also, Tiffany’s boyfriend is looking for a change. He wants to keep some length to his hair, but wouldn’t mind more of a style. Here’s a shorter option and a medium-length one. (How scary does David Bowie look in that photo? But you get the idea.)

I admit, I’m biased towards shorter hair on men, so I might not be the best judge. Do you all have any suggestions for longer male hair options?

You all figure it out while this girl takes a nap.

Okay, so I love Tiffany’s options, and I would for sure go for the red color plus with that cut she’ll eliminate a lot of the bulk at the ends of her which will be much easier to style. As for the boyfriend, I seriously cannot get past that scary David Bowie photo–he is like the crypt keeper….that being said I would go for the Ashton haircut. It is shorter, but it give the illusion of length plus it looks like they have a similar shape face from what I can tell from the smallish photos.

The majority of the men I date have shaved heads. I don’t think I am the right one to answer the man hair question.

Ummm… I’m totally going to have David-Bowie-enduced nightmares. That is one of the scariest things I’ve seen in a long time. And I think the hair style adds to the freakishness of it all. I’m not a fan of hair that long on guys. It’s greasy-looking and… well? Scary.

BUT! I do heart the shaggy-hair look, ala Ashton (who, bee tee doubleyou, is from Iowa, just like me. I doubt he’s floating around here these, days, though – it’s too stinky and flood-gunky for famous people…)

Is that photo not FRIGHTENING? I mean, I couldn’t NOT post something so terrifying, right?

Oh, I am so glad to see that this is a dual make-over because I was trying to think of some way to say it. He’s much too handsome a guy to have that…that…is that a mullet??

And Whoorl, you shouldn’t even TEMPT him with that David Bowie thing. No no no. Johnnie Depp maybe. But not that shaggy thing. On anyone other than Bowie it is treading Keith Urban waters…Hell, even ON Bowie it’s too Keith Urban.

I can not wait to see the results of these two babes; there is so much potential here!!!

OMG, I looked at Keith Urban photos! BWAHAHAAAAAA.

I am just NOT well-versed in shoulder-length or longer male hair. Shaggy? I can do. Anything longer makes me a little queasy. I would be thrilled if he went for the Ashton style, though.

I really like the red color for Tiffany. It’s very cute and looks like it would work well with her skin tone. I kind of prefer the second cut, though. The first one is a bit thin/wispy looking at the bottom. Slightly fuller curls would be cute, though.
For her boyfriend, I vote the first cut all the way. I think he’d look good with shorter hair (I’m with you on liking shorter hair on men). The second cut seems way too feminine for him. He seems a masculine sort and that longer style looks like it requires a straight iron and a good deal of product.

omg. tiffany! i have medium length thick hair and my hair just sucks water. so blowdrying took forever. until! i started using john friea anti-frizz serum. seriously. this stuff is AMAZING. it literally cuts my blowdry time in half. and my hair is sans frizz.

i voted red (as did the world) and it’s not like RED red but reddish with blonde. very pretty!

I definitely vote for the red and the layers for Tiffany. For the boyfriend, I think the Ashton cut would look great on him. I also think changing the beard to a goatee would look good, too. :-)

Tiffany? HELL YES, RED. You were meant to be a redhead. I say this AS a natural redhead.

Tiffany’s boyfriend? He sort of reminds me of Nick Drago from “Step it Up and Dance,” (shut up) and that makes him 100% hottie in my mind. Which means, of course, the Ashton cut is the only option. Maybe shorter. Mmmm.

Also? Less red wine on a Thursday night. For me, that is. Just a thought.

Oh, thank you Whoorl, for flashing me some Ashton Kutscher, my fantasy boy toy, before I hit the hay :-)

Tiffany – you are a redhead waiting to happen!

Tiffany should definitely go more red. I will say, though, since I actually KNOW Tiffany in real life, that she has the THICKEST hair I have ever seen on a really truly real live person. I think that first cut would be simply impossible, since it would require removal at the roots of about half her hair. :) The second one would look great, though. Just my two cents…

oh my goodness, i have been hair thursdayed.
whoorl: i would like to apologize, because i actually sent you an email with better pictures, but it kept popping back up and telling me: “unable to send! try again later?” and i was always like: “yes!”
for the record, the same message still pops up once every other day. i have to assume you never got that email. which made me assume that i would never actually be ‘hair thursdayed.’

i think i need a moment to process the fact that i have been ‘hair thursdayed.’

i will then return with a comment that makes more sense.

I am pretty sure that is her actual hair colour. In which case, how jealous am I? Very. So she could maybe go a little darker, but why mess with an awesome thing? I do think she could rock either cut, but I’m probably leaning towards the second one.

I’m I one of the very few girls that prefer men with long hair, and does not think that David Bowie looks scary in that picture??
