The Whoorl Hair Academy

Sometimes, I dream of moderating a hair blog. (Okay, maybe “dream” is a little much. How about, the thought occasionally pops into my head as I stare vapidly at Wito feasting on my Mac power cord.)

Yesterday was a perfect example – after all of the bang comments and votes, the stunning Holly emailed about her own hair dilemma. This email was like the highlight of my week – someone (not just someone! Beautiful Holly! With the lovely British accent!) was requesting my input on a hairstyle. I was on a mission to find photos of the perfect cut, based on her request. I found myself wanting to ask tons of questions, what’s your hair type, what kind of climate do you live in, do you like to use product, how much styling time will you allow?

People, is this normal?

I think it’s time to make an admission. I am obsessed with hair. Like really obsessed. And I wish I could say I was equally obsessed about the current state of the economy or politics, but no. Hair, it is.

Is there such thing as an online Hair Consulting Business? If so, I’m all over it. And what would I call it, pray tell?

Speaking of hair, my Gallery of Good Hair has been a little neglected and is quietly whimpering in the corner. Do you have any photos to add? If so, send a photo (and your URL, if you have one) to hairATwhoorlDOTcom.

Have a great weekend!

Can I fly you to Dallas to consult me? To hold my hand and tell me what to do? BECAUSE MY HAIR IS UNRULY, AND HAS SPENT THE LAST TWO WEEKS EXCLUSIVELY IN A BUN OR PONYTAIL.

I cannot stand it, I tell you.

I read Holly’s post this morning and I’m glad I did because I was feeling like her, ready to just shave it off. So now I’m taking a step back a big deep breath and I’ll be looking at celebrity hair online all weekend. I have an appointment next Wednesday with my stylist so if I’m happy with it I’ll send you a photo for your Gallery of Good Hair.

    Hey — I’m back!

I’ve been thinking about your hair consultancy and I think your readers (who are pretty and also know about hair – just look at your good hair day gallery) would be a great resource.

Like, I could send a picture of my current hairstyle and see if your readers think that I should go for the katie holmes cut or keep my hair long. I could easily become addicted to a site like that.

You know, that’s a great idea. Hmm, let me get my thinking cap on.

I hate thinking about hair. I have what some would refer to as “bush woman” hair. I straighten it with the harshest chemicals, and it’s still curly, banana curls curly, but with a small amount of frizz. I have never been able to do bangs, chunky layers, razor cut, or any of the other awesome hairstyles you see in magazines/TV/everyday life. I hate you people with straight, wavy, pefectly closed cuticles, hair that actually reflects light! I curse you!

Sfhlepmmmmm, sorry about that. I have been inspired by your Princess Leia look, until my 7 yr old son asked, “did [my 8 yr old sister] do your hair today?” Hmmph.

OK, because you are clearly the Queen of Hairstyling, can I put my name in the hat for wedding style tips? Oh, pretty please with copious amounts of gel on top?

I’m getting married! (mock-eloping, actually) on the Oregon Coast next month and I have NO idea what to do with my hair, except I know it has to be mostly back, because THE WIND, dear lord the wind. But I don’t want a prommy-looking updo and I don’t want it plastered to my head. I also don’t want a french twist. So I know what I don’t! want, but I have no idea what I DO want. I will be forever in your debt, and will of course send a beachy bridal picture to be added to your “good hair day” pool. Love and bobby pins.

Ho! Here from Holly’s place along with the rest of the multitude, and a quick skim backward through your archives has me convinced — bookmarked you be! It was the ellipses and dashes that hooked me :-) I can’t vote in your poll because clearly you’d be gorgeous even if you were bald! And besides, I haven’t changed my own hairstyle in over 20 years, so what do I know??! Have fun deciding, though :-)

oh whoorl…i could use some hair consult…from the pro herself. i am in big dilemnas at the moment. basically i was blessed with the finest and thinnest hair known to man. and so were my sisters. and i soley blame my father. so i just removed my hair extensions after a year and a half. and they were not for length…VOLUME. who ever knew?…hair extensions for more hair. so i am currently going through major withdrawls. and i can’t decide if i want to just go ahead and front the millions of dollars i spend yearly on this addiction…which i like to call a neccessity really. see…its these issues you would get to advise.
p.s. no hair product fixes this thin hair issue. i promise. not even my kerastase volume spray.

I think it perfectly natural that you’re so obsessed with hair seeing as your is absolutely gorj. Go for the bangs – they always grow back.
I went the bang route myself this year after a very long hiatus, and I’m not looking back. I also went a bit nuts with hair colour, with red, blondish highlights that lightened in the summer – I’m not sure it was necessarily a good thing (I’m Asian) or I would put my pix in your gallery. I need to get it cut again first. Reminds me, I need to get another cut…

Hair consulting! That is such a good idea. Because you could even do it from home and just have your consultee Paypal you your fee. It would be like phone sex, just a little, or life coaching!

I’m so excited to read all of your new hair blogs!!

Now I’ve just got to get mine off the ground!

And yeah, do the hair consulting!

Heck, why don’t you just go ahead and get your hairstyling license?

It’s not like a degree or anything,

    it’s pretty simple.

    See ya.

I wish I could sneak a pic of my husband’s whoorl to add to your gallery – he has a DOUBLE whoorl. I kid you not. In India, that is considered lucky, so of course I had to marry him. In hopes I can ride on his coat tails of Luck. So far, so good.

JUST SAY NO to the bangs! Although you’re beautiful either way, I just can’t vote yes to the bang situation.

It was so nice meeting you and your family at the art show! So weird, but really cool. And you do have awesome hair!

I am obessed with my hair! LOL I color it all the time, cut it all different ways… I get bored so easily…I’m getting itchy to change the color again…I was thinking a lovely shade of Whoorl. :)
