Sometimes, I dream of moderating a hair blog. (Okay, maybe “dream” is a little much. How about, the thought occasionally pops into my head as I stare vapidly at Wito feasting on my Mac power cord.)
Yesterday was a perfect example – after all of the bang comments and votes, the stunning Holly emailed about her own hair dilemma. This email was like the highlight of my week – someone (not just someone! Beautiful Holly! With the lovely British accent!) was requesting my input on a hairstyle. I was on a mission to find photos of the perfect cut, based on her request. I found myself wanting to ask tons of questions, what’s your hair type, what kind of climate do you live in, do you like to use product, how much styling time will you allow?
People, is this normal?
I think it’s time to make an admission. I am obsessed with hair. Like really obsessed. And I wish I could say I was equally obsessed about the current state of the economy or politics, but no. Hair, it is.
Is there such thing as an online Hair Consulting Business? If so, I’m all over it. And what would I call it, pray tell?
Speaking of hair, my Gallery of Good Hair has been a little neglected and is quietly whimpering in the corner. Do you have any photos to add? If so, send a photo (and your URL, if you have one) to hairATwhoorlDOTcom.
Have a great weekend!

August 24, 2007 at 9:48 amI don’t know what you would call it, but I’d be all over that kind of consulting service. Can I pay you in olive pie? No? Ok then, how about just a picture of me with new and improved hair for your gallery?

August 24, 2007 at 9:23 amOoh, fun. I missed this the first time around. I’d like to add my hair to your gallery, as I am pleased as punch about my latest cut. And I feel your gallery is lacking in the shorter ‘dos, so here you go:

Thanks for letting me play!

August 24, 2007 at 9:24 amSign me up for a consult once you get things up and running. I am in a hair rut and can’t seem to get out of it.

August 24, 2007 at 10:33 amYou already have a name – Whoorl sounds subliminally like “curl”!
I think you’d be an amazing internet hair consultant – you could deconstruct celebrity hairstyles, do product reviews and advice the huddled internet masses in dire need of a haircut. You know, people like me.

August 24, 2007 at 9:36 amIf you can think of something to do with my hair short of my shaving it off, please do tell.

August 24, 2007 at 10:20 amOh my god, do it! Please.
Besides, politics and the economy are way over rated.
And where would YOUR hair photo be? Don’t make me steal from your Flickr account, Miss Perfect Short Hair.

August 24, 2007 at 10:28 amUm, I will be in ALL of your infomercials for the Whoorl Hair Academy, talking about how great your services are. There will be some text beneath me that says Real Live Actual (Very Satisfied) Client.

August 24, 2007 at 10:38 amYes, you should have an online Hair Consulting Business, and it should be called Whoorl’s World of Hair. It would be fantabulous.

August 24, 2007 at 10:44 ami totally need a hair consultant! i keep going to salons and desperately asking what they think would look good on me, but no one will take charge and give me what THEY think would work on me. so i keep just getting the same blah haircut. this totally sounds like a career to me.

August 24, 2007 at 11:33 amI fully believe that is PERFECTLY normal because if it makes you strange then the fact that I cut and style each and every co –worker / friend in my life hair and spend hours in beauty stores looking at products for other people would make me VERY abnormal which I am not. However if I am abnormal I feel better that you are abnormal with me. Also if you ever need a co – creator just let a sista know.

August 24, 2007 at 11:42 amOh. my. God. Are there hair blogs?? Why didn’t I think to look for hair blogs earlier? I would love to read hair blogs!
Also, as previously mentioned, I need a punky cut for derby. Think angled bangs, unusual highlights (dark on top and blond or red underneath? I haven’t decided), and an inverted messy bob. All on thick, wavy hair that needs a lot of product to behave at that length. (But which products? I don’t even know. See?)
My family is loaded with very capable hair professionals who are drawing up, like, BLUEPRINTS of my hair, so if you’re too busy, no problem. If not, consider me your next infomercial testimonial. I’d love to see a picture that even gave me an IDEA of what I’m getting myself into.
The pros don’t deal in pictures. They deal in discussing triangle parts and other terms that I’ve never heard of. It’s a little intimidating.

August 24, 2007 at 11:51 amThat sounds like a great idea! And I think you should totally do commentary on celebrity hair styles…with your humour, we’d be rolling in the ailses :-)

August 24, 2007 at 12:02 pmWell, in the case with me (and my deep desire to cut my tresses off and go for the spike again), I’d call it Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow.
