Ladies, I’ve been meaning to write this post for months. After years and years of trials and tribulations, I have found the holy grail in mascara. (And you all know I’ve tried them all, right? Drugstore, high end, what have you…have. tried. them. all.)
Are you ready?
Benefit They’re Real! Mascara.
Hands down, this is the best mascara I’ve ever used, and here’s why.
1. It does a good job of adding length to the lashes.
2. It does a bang up job of adding volume to the lashes.
3. It does not clump at all. (I DESPISE CLUMPY LASHES. Please explain to me why some people think thick, clumpy lashes are a good thing? Blech.)
4. It doesn’t feather or flake off underneath your eyes as the day goes on.
5. It doesn’t bother my contacts.
6. You don’t need a separate lash primer to get the full effect.
And, drumroll, please…
7. People ask me if I’m wearing lash extensions all the time. BOO YAH.
Yes, it’s $23 dollars, but it is worth every penny. You ladies need to heed my advice and buy some right now. (Have I led you astray yet? Listen to mama.)
For those of you balking at the price, I will tell you this. There is a drugstore version that is almost as good as the Benefit mascara. Not AS good, but pretty dang good for the price. CoverGirl LashBlast Volume. Give that one a go first, if need be. Good luck and good lashes.

February 13, 2013 at 8:17 amSephora also peddles tiny sample versions of Benefit mascaras that one could try first. (I’ve bought 3 sample sizes of this mascara…why don’t I just go all in for the whole tube? Weirdo.)

February 13, 2013 at 8:39 amGO FOR IT.
Lisa
February 13, 2013 at 8:31 amI got a sample of this last month in a Benefit sampler box and LOVE IT. I can not handle when mascara give me raccoon eyes after only a few hours of wear – not an issue with this mascara. My only complaint is it is down right tough to get off. I had to buy some makeup remover wipes and even then I still have traces in the morning.
Any tips?

February 13, 2013 at 8:35 amUse coconut oil to get it off.

February 13, 2013 at 8:39 amThe Olay Daily Facial Cloths that I use every night get it off easily!

February 13, 2013 at 8:51 amI must just have the wrong brand. I’ll try the Olay cloths (I can even cut them down for just eye size).

February 13, 2013 at 10:02 amHoly crap, you just blew my mind. WHY did I not think of this?? I love the Olay cloths but the fragrance free ones are hard to find and they are all expensive. I’m going to start cutting mine in fours!
lisa
February 13, 2013 at 11:36 amOH YEAH! You only need half a cloth for your whole face! I used the wipes in college and ALWAYS cut them. Still do when I pack them for vacations (can’t take regular wash bottle in carry on). A quarter will do in a pinch if you need it to (pre-payday).

February 13, 2013 at 9:10 amI recently got Covergirl Eyelights. Amazing! Seriously, so, so good. And a fraction of the price!

February 13, 2013 at 9:17 amwhat are our thoughts about trish mcevoy? i recently started using this and i love it and i thought my life-long quest to find the perfect mascara was over…but you mean to tell me benefit’s is even BETTER??

February 13, 2013 at 9:31 amIt smudged a bit on me by the end of the day. :(

February 13, 2013 at 9:26 amI tried “They’re Real” and hated it! I actually took it back to Sephora and exchanged it. Every time I have tried a mascara with a rubber bristle brush I end up with severely clumpy lashes. I must be doing it wrong.
whoorl
February 13, 2013 at 9:30 amSeriously?? I don’t get a clump! Do you think the sample was old?
rachel
February 16, 2013 at 5:29 pmNo, I really think I don’t understand the new brushes! I feel like I end up with too much mascara on (from the base of the bristles?) and it gets all gloopy.

February 13, 2013 at 6:28 pmBought this about a week ago and hate it, too! Super clumpy and I don’t like the brush. I do love Covergirl’s last blahs volume, though.
Mel
February 15, 2013 at 8:00 pmYou know, I didn’t really like it either. I tried a sample through Birchbox and I can’t help but wonder if maybe I got an old sample? My problem was not really clumping, but it kinda remained feeling sticky or moist or something. All day. I do really like the Benefit BADgal mascara though.

February 16, 2013 at 5:28 pmYes! I love BADGal too! The giant brush is awesome.

February 13, 2013 at 9:36 amWhen I saw the title, I was hoping you would say Benefit’s They’re Real! This is my ABSOLUTE favorite mascara. I will be wearing this at my wedding in April. I’m not a crier, so I’m not to worried about smudging because this stuff is that amazing!
Thanks!

February 13, 2013 at 4:08 pmThis is totally what I thought because I love this mascara

February 13, 2013 at 9:57 amNow I need to see a before of your lashes ;) I have SUPER short lashes (IMO) and need all the help I can get…nothing, NOTHING has been able to give me length that lasts the day. I’m going to splurge on this (maybe the sample first) and see if it works for me too…thanks!

February 13, 2013 at 4:06 pmMy lashes are long, but they don’t have a lot of volume naturally. Try out a sample!
Mia
February 13, 2013 at 6:30 pmMy lashes are really short and straight and this did nothing for them but make them look like one big clump. Try the lash blast volume by CG, though. It’s my fave.
Kelly
February 14, 2013 at 2:52 pmI’ve tried the Lash Blast Volume from CG and it did NOTHING for me :( …I guess there’s no hope for my sad lashes ;)

February 13, 2013 at 10:10 amAmen, sister! One of the staff at Ulta basically begged me to try it when I went in looking for mascara a few weeks ago, and it is the best! I was getting really tired of the drugstore mascaras and their new formulas every month which don’t live up to their huge advertising claims. Goes on so smooth, no clumps, doesn’t flake, looks beautiful.

February 13, 2013 at 10:33 amIf I AM a crier and wear this for my wedding, will it smudge/run?
Hanna
February 13, 2013 at 11:29 amPersonally, I am a crier and I used Blinc (also at Sephora) for my wedding. I LOVE it. It is my go to mascara. It has the “tube technology” so it coats your eyelashes and doesn’t come off until it softens in the shower or when you wash your face. Doesn’t flake, doesn’t smudge, doesn’t give me raccoon eyes. I happily pay $22 over and over again!

February 13, 2013 at 4:06 pmI have no idea. :( I know it doesn’t smudge when I workout/sweat….

February 13, 2013 at 11:56 amLove this mascara – it is what I use! Though I was thinking of trying Benefit Badgirl just for a change. Have you tried it and if so how did it compare They’re Real?
whoorl
February 13, 2013 at 4:06 pmHaven’t tried it, but let me know if you do!
Atomic Bombshell
February 13, 2013 at 7:12 pmI always thought BadGal was a decent substitute for DiorShow
Mel
February 15, 2013 at 8:04 pmI’ve tried both. I wasn’t really a fan of They’re Real (the formula was kind of sticky to me), but I love BADgal. Makes my lashes super long like false lashes. I agree with Atomic Bombshell that BADgal reminds me of DiorShow, another favorite of mine.
rachel
February 16, 2013 at 5:31 pmI looooooove BADGal. Do it!
Emily
February 13, 2013 at 12:03 pmI loooove Maybelline Volume Express Mega Plush. So soft! No clumps! It rocks. Also BLINC mascara is great and never flakes off. I trust you, but these are my current faves! xoxo

February 13, 2013 at 2:46 pmcan i ask? how long are your eyelashes with no mascara? just wondering if this would elongate mine to super lengths like your photo because wow…it’s like extension length!
whoorl
February 13, 2013 at 4:07 pmMy lashes are pretty long, but I do think it adds length!
Darci
February 13, 2013 at 4:11 pmI love this mascara…so happy to be done with that quest.
Sara
February 13, 2013 at 7:01 pmI so agree! I love this mascara! It doesn’t irritate my eyes at all, and I do get asked about extensions as well. Makes my eyes stand out behind my glasses, and makes my short hair look even more polished.

February 13, 2013 at 8:13 pmI LOVE this one too. For those of us used to waterproof-it does take a few extra seconds to dry. For cry days (I’m a priest who cries at weddings and funerals), I stick to Dior waterproof, which doesn’t smudge or move, at all.
