The Annual January Death March

I’m sick. Sinus explosions, 1,000-pound head, the whole deal. Wito has mild croup, but seems to be on the mend, given his penchant for hyperactive, barking behavior. Fun for me.

Wasn’t I sick this time last year? Why yes, I WAS. Hey, don’t forget 2006!

However, this year involves no surgical masks. Caring for a toddler sure puts a stop to the GOCD behavior quickly.

*said as she licks her finger and wipes a booger off Wito’s face*

Any good croup remedies?

We just always do the steam bathroom drill….run the shower AS HOT as possible, and the sink…shut the door and SIT sit SIT….like a sauna…..also alternating from COOL to HOT environments helps…doing the bathroom sauna for a few minutes then OUTSIDE if its cool enough QUICK intervals help that barking cough…SORRY your sick….hope you get to feeling better…:)

Whoorl – Try a cold vapor humidifier too after sitting in the bathroom with the hot water running. Is he sleeping okay for you? Maybe try running one while he is sleeping, or just keep it running in the room where he is playing. I read to sit in the steamy bathroom for about 30 minutes (Have a good magazine?)…I know tough to do with a toddler, but maybe just 15 would help if you can! Sorry you guys arent feeling too good…hope you feel better soon! Also, Gatorade, apple juice, and popsicles helps to thin secretions…really any clear liquids, and no milk (thickens secretions). Hope this helps :o)

Oh no, you poor thing. I’m so sorry to hear that you’re sick! Glad to hear that Wito is on the mend, though. I had croup around age 11-12 and my mother stuck me in the bathroom with the shower running, then outside in the cool air. So, “ditto” what everyone else has said.

I took your Hair Thursday advice today! I’m hoping to get photos tonight, and assume they’d be welcome in your direction. For perusal after you recover, of course. Thank you again for the advice, it’s done wonders! I haven’t fixed the color yet, but will in time.

    Feel better!

Cool air works better for us than steam. In fact, strapping them into their car seats and driving, with the window open, to the ER cures them. Temporarily.

I’ve used the Johnson’s Vapor Bath with my little one. It smells like Vicks Vapor Rub. I’m not sure how well it works, but it’s never hurt. Another friend said to put regular vick’s on baby’s feet and then put socks on and they can get the vapors that way. Good Luck!

no remedies – just good old fashioned well wishes from a fellow germ freak – my five and a half year old had his first puking incident over vacation. Yum. Maybe having kids makes us less OCD about germs…well, I just get random panic attacks while child is sick…

Paige got “THE CROUP” in November. I didn’t know kids still got that. I thought it was something our parents got in the 1950’s.

The best thing that helped Paige was a humidifier in her room. Once that machine revved up, she sounded like she was able to breathe again. Steamy baths, too. It took about a week before she stopped sounding like a barking seal.

The vapor rub on the feet really does work! Just rub a bit on the soles of his feet at bedtime and put socks on over it. I don’t really know why or how but it works like a charm every time on my little ones.

I am pretty confident I had an “adult” case of the croup recently (adult is in quotes not because it was pornographic, but because I question my adulthood often despite the fact I’m pushing 30). The only thing that helped was the steamy shower bit … though I still managed to cough to the point of throwing up in the shower. Sorry, was that TMI?

I should wrap this up by simply (and non-grossly) recommending some good movies.. not adult movies though .. unless you think that would help … uh… I think I’m done here.

I thought the Vick’s thing was absolutely stupid.

UNTIL I was almost freaking suffocated and killed by rogue sinus mucous for a month of my life in November.

It was the ONLY thing that worked.

Duh…I meant to type “Vicks on your FEET”.

    It’s late.
