Sunkissed Highlights

Remember my teeny tiny obsession with colorist Johnny Ramirez’s work? Well, I finally bit the bullet and took this virgin hair of mine to the Ramirez Tran Salon in Beverly Hills a few weeks ago. You guys, I spent TWELVE hours having my hair colored and cut by Johnny and Anh Co Tran, respectively. (And you thought I had OCD…these guys were speaking my language!)

Um, how stylish are those two? SO STYLISH, I SAY. (Anh’s responsible for Coco Rocha’s edgy cut and Ginnifer Goodwin’s pixie – good to know if/when I decide to choppy chop.)

So, yeah, I looked like this for a good portion of the day.

Johnny was meticulous, I mean, METICULOUS with my hair. He’s an artist, for sure. And wears great boots, to boot.

I will say there came a point in the afternoon when I wondered if something had gone terribly wrong with my hair, but was quickly talked off the ledge by a few of my highlighted-hair-expert-friends after I texted something to the effect of OMG THE ENDS OF MY HAIR ARE BUTTERSCOTCH YELLOW.

All part of the plan, my friends. Look at the finished result!

I am so, so happy with the results. I told Johnny I wanted beachy, sunkissed highlights and he delivered.

The best part? The top of my hair wasn’t touched so it will grow out seamlessly, and I only have to visit Johnny once a year. (Good thing as that is all I can afford, peeps.)

After spending the past couple of decades with virgin, all-one-shade hair, it feels great to have some depth and dimension.

Loving the color gradation in my updos too. Can you hear me squeeing over here? Because I am.

Hooray for highlights! You can check out Johnny’s work here and Anh’s work here.

Wow, virgin hair and no gray hairs?!?! That is so youthful. I wonder how the process and price would change for those of us who don’t have such lovely before hair and have gray to cover? Your hair is amazing both ways!

@Betsy, when you have gray hair all bets are off on anything being “easy”. I have to get my roots colored every 5 weeks but really need it done every 3. And to add to that my gray has been officially declared “Very Resistant” to color, so I’m just happy to walk out of my salon with the gray covered. Although I have to say Whoorl and I have pretty much the exact same type, length, color and texture of hair. She is very lucky she doesn’t have grays yet. Her after photos are stunning. I too, would like to know what they use to get the loose, natural waves in the after photos.

Loooove it! And definitely worth it if you’re only going once a year.
