Remember my teeny tiny obsession with colorist Johnny Ramirez’s work? Well, I finally bit the bullet and took this virgin hair of mine to the Ramirez Tran Salon in Beverly Hills a few weeks ago. You guys, I spent TWELVE hours having my hair colored and cut by Johnny and Anh Co Tran, respectively. (And you thought I had OCD…these guys were speaking my language!)
Um, how stylish are those two? SO STYLISH, I SAY. (Anh’s responsible for Coco Rocha’s edgy cut and Ginnifer Goodwin’s pixie – good to know if/when I decide to choppy chop.)
So, yeah, I looked like this for a good portion of the day.
Johnny was meticulous, I mean, METICULOUS with my hair. He’s an artist, for sure. And wears great boots, to boot.
I will say there came a point in the afternoon when I wondered if something had gone terribly wrong with my hair, but was quickly talked off the ledge by a few of my highlighted-hair-expert-friends after I texted something to the effect of OMG THE ENDS OF MY HAIR ARE BUTTERSCOTCH YELLOW.
All part of the plan, my friends. Look at the finished result!
I am so, so happy with the results. I told Johnny I wanted beachy, sunkissed highlights and he delivered.
The best part? The top of my hair wasn’t touched so it will grow out seamlessly, and I only have to visit Johnny once a year. (Good thing as that is all I can afford, peeps.)
After spending the past couple of decades with virgin, all-one-shade hair, it feels great to have some depth and dimension.
Loving the color gradation in my updos too. Can you hear me squeeing over here? Because I am.
Hooray for highlights! You can check out Johnny’s work here and Anh’s work here.

November 13, 2013 at 9:08 amLoving the highlights! They look beautiful on you!! I’m actually getting mine done in a few weeks and cannot wait!! I think it’s the perfect way to spruce up a boring one shade color without having to go to the salon too often.

November 13, 2013 at 10:13 amYou have seriously gorgeous hair. I loved it before you got it colored, but the highlights are very pretty and he gave you a very natural ombre.

November 14, 2013 at 3:08 pmJohnny charges $500 for highlights…but after seeing how much time he spent on my hair, it’s a bargain!
Anh’s haircuts are $300.

November 13, 2013 at 12:55 pmYour highlights look beautiful! I’ve never colored my hair either but am starting to consider it. I’ve always felt like I wouldn’t even know what to ask for, but maybe “beachy sunkissed highlights” is all I need to say!

November 13, 2013 at 1:10 pmpretty. I was looking forward to a play by play, what was exactly going on for 12 hrs? shampoo, blow dry, cut, then color, then shampoo, then cut again, then more color ??

November 14, 2013 at 3:10 pmLots and lots of color blending – he works with tiny sections of hair, blending the color/bleach slowly up the hair shaft so there are no obvious lines of where color ends and begins.

November 13, 2013 at 4:26 pmFabulous. I, too, am obsessed with Johnny and Anh’s work. I’ve been wondering, how do they achieve those gorgeous, loose curls you see in all those “after” photos–curling iron? flat iron? Do tell!

November 13, 2013 at 8:23 pmI had a full-body panic when I saw “TWELVE hours.” I hate small talk at the salon and the idea of having to be conversational for that long gives me the shakes. HOWEVER, it might just be worth it for such gorgeous hair. It is worthy of a good squee!

November 14, 2013 at 3:11 pmNo need for small talk…they totally get it. In fact, Johnny said he wished he could clone me because I didn’t feel the need to make small talk. ;)
