Some Hair and Beauty Fodder…

demure smoky eye

1. I’m always trying to figure out how to create a smoky eye that is more subtle/demure, less vampire/whorehouse. Love the above look, and all the products used are listed in this Glamour article. (And speaking of vampires, that actress is dating Peter Facinelli, aka Carlisle Cullen, who used to be married to Kelly from 90210, but they divorced. You know, um, just in case you were wondering…)

2. I did an easy, natural makeup tutorial at Beauty and the Beat this week with Jane Cosmetics. Bonus – my friends at Jane are giving away $100 in cosmetics to a commenter. (Not a random assortment, either. Like, you get to pick $100 worth of cosmetics from them.) I’m not really sure what deters people from entering/commenting over at Babble, but there are only 7 entries right now, so you’ve got a damn good chance of winning! You can enter here…their spring line is impressive!

3. Also, I posted the 16 top beauty sellers at Sephora – I’m such a sucker for lists like these. (I have 7 out of the 16…including you know what. What’s your tally?)

4. Apparently, two of the big hair trends this year are cool tones and pastels. I tried them out on my hair for this post. (Never fear…it was Photoshop, not the real thing. Which is a good thing because yuuuuuck.)

5. I spent way too much time trying to make my hair look like a diva one morning. I was hoping for Chaka Khan, but ended up a hot mess. It was still pretty voluminous, though! What are your favorite products for volume? Mousse? Hairspray? An electrical socket?

Hi Sarah, just a heads up – I’ve tried twice to enter the Babble contest and my comment doesn’t show up… wondering if there is a delay? I’ve check back a few times and still nothing…

Hmmm…. it’s still not there. Should I try again? How would I prevent it from going to spam?

Since my first bottle of Redken FatCat, me and my fine flat hair have been on a quest for good volumizing products.

My current favorite is by Kenra (I know, right?) – their dry shampoo. This stuff means business. It’s clear (not white), de-greases without overdrying my ends, which is the most important thing I look for in a volumizer. The side effect is va-va-voom volume. It’s like the volume of a cheaper dry shampoo without the heavy feeling, white powder, and perfuminess.

It does what I had hoped the Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray would do. (Oribe’s spray is great, but I need a little more degreasing that it provided.)

Has a winner been announced in the Jane give-away? Of course I’ve ordered tons of Jane cosmetics already from amazon.

You should try Kevin Murphy’s anti-gravity oil free volume song lotion or the anti-gravity spray. This is probably my favorite product.
