Sleep Like a King in My (Psuedo) Guest Room

Guest rooms are not really the norm in Newport Beach. Space is definitely at a premium, and I don’t know too many folks around here who have a room solely devoted to housing guests. So when folks come to stay with us, good ol’ Wito gets the boot and has to forfeit his room. (Sorry, bud! It sucks having the cool room!)

Unfortunately (for Wito and everyone involved, really), the mattress on his bed was kind of shoddy. I’m not going to lie – it was pretty cheap. I figured, heck, he’s a kid, it’s all good. Except for the fact that he is soooooo my child, and has been known to lie awake at night with the mental hamster wheel cranking. After my horrible run-in with insomnia last summer, I wouldn’t wish that on any soul. NO SIRREE BOB. (If you aren’t sleeping right now, I feel you. It’s the worst, and I’m sorry.) So, when Simmons reached out to me with the news of their new ComforPedic iQ™ mattress, I was all ears. (Especially when I learned that the mattress is the first and only mattress endorsed by Dr. Andrew Weil, my favorite bearded doctor. You seriously should watch this video if not just to marvel at his trimmed beard perfection. Also, True Food Forevah!)

“Getting sleep of sufficient quantity and quality is important,” says Dr. Weil. “We invest in nutritious foods and gym memberships, but too often neglect the importance of providing our bodies with an optimal environment for recuperation. The ComforPedic iQ™ is the only mattress I have ever endorsed. I believe in this product’s clinically tested technology and ComforPedic iQ™’s mission to help people achieve a better night’s sleep as part of a healthier lifestyle.”

So, what’s the deal with this mattress, you ask? Well, it’s self-adjusting, has patented, Smart Response™ Technology designed to help people fall asleep faster and experience increased REM sleep, and regulates body temperature with Ultra Cool™ Memory Foam. You know…just a few minor perks.

It’s a win-win – guests will sleep better, and Wito will sleep better. I’m all for good sleep, people. Take me to Snoozeville and take me fast.

The only problem with the mattress? It’s not on my bed. Suddenly, I’m not so quick to leave after stories have been read and lights are out. I might move into the “guest” room for good. I’m sure Wito wouldn’t mind a roommate, right? We could briefly ruminate together before conking out! You suddenly feel the need to visit us, don’t you? We can have a slumber party!

I am curious, though. How many of you have guest rooms in your house? Do you use them or are they wasted space?

Sounds like a great one. I love my pillowtop mattress. I forget what kind it is. :)
No guest rooms here. We have extra rooms but they are used for offices since we both work from home!

We have a guest room and it is used often. My parents come to town frequently as do other visitors. My husband is and ER doctor so he works strange hours sometimes so it is also his daytime sleep room. It is much darker than the master, plus I won’t disturb him.

We have a guest room that gets quite a bit of use. We have a friend from LA that comes and camps out for weeks at a time, hence, we call the room George’s Room, even when he’s not around. My husband works swing and I’ve been battling some serious adrenal fatigue so I take a lot of naps in there as to not wake my sleeping husband.

We have a guest room that up until a year ago, was only the guest room. At my husband’ suggestion, we rearranged it and now it also functions as my sewing room. I’d really like to pull the bed out and put in a foldout couch. Do they make comfortable ones anymore?

Yes, there is a comfy pull out couch! We have one from American Leather (one of their upholstery ones)and it is really comfy! I top the mattress with a down mattress cover to make it a bit more luxurious. The sofa is cute, modern, affordable and has held up so well with heavy use.

We have a guest room… the mattress is so so so sad. I really should get a new one for that room. But we have a guest about every other month, so it’s hard to spend that money too. But I am making it a priority to clean that room up over the next year, new paint/bedding/etc. The mattress should be replaced in that process. So most of the time it’s just a wasted space, but when my mom comes to babysit for a night or two, it’s so worth it!

We have a guest room that gets a lot os use (hello desert getaways) but also doubles as my office. When the kids were young my stepdaughter’s room also served as a guest room.

We remodeled a downstairs room a couple years ago to be an office for my husband. It’s big enough to also double as a guest room, but he really wanted the dark wood, classic banker style office. So we put in a Murphy bed. Great decision, the room looks cool and everyone loves the bed.

Ww have a guest room. It’s not used often, but is oh so important. When my MIL comes to visit it usually means my husband and I are bound for some awesome vacation spot. We want our prime babysitter to be happy ;). (it’s quite the step up from the blowup mattress in the basement of our old townhouse!). When she’s not here, it is our “sick bay” since it’s right next to the master…I like to be close to the kids when they’re sick. Plus, there’s a tv in there which is perfect for watching cartoons when they’re laid up!

Ps–I love dr. Weil…it means a lot to me that he endorsed this product.

We will have a guest room soon- as I’ll be living 3500 miles from my family (SC to the PNW), I’m sure it will be useful. However, I think I’m going to try and add some storage and office space in the same room. I use our current guest room as my sewing room and library. As our family grows, we will probably move towards a pull-out couch type situation.

We have a guest room that we NEVER use. I love knowing I have it, but the other part of me would love to make it a very nice walk in closet!

We are fortunate enough to have a guest house. Not used on a regular basis until recently…my 25 year old niece has moved in while she finds a new place. Usually a “storage/junk” space but glad we have it for visitors!

We have a guest room and a maid’s room. In Saudi Arabia. We use the maid’s room for storage, but most of our neighbors use theirs for a maid or nanny.

I don’t currently have a guest room, I do have a fold out couch in my office/sewing room. I used to have a guest room when I lived in Charleston, SC because my mom and my niece would each come to visit. I’m guessing most folks in that area have them because relatives and friends visit often.
