Odds and Ends

1. I deflowered my 7-year-old virginal hair with highlights yesterday!

2. I am in love with a new, organic pressed powder. (It’s a DRUGSTORE brand, holla! I found it at Ulta, which upon walking into the store realized I had a $5 coupon back at my house so I turned around and drove back to the house just to get the damn coupon, most likely wasting that five dollars in gas. WHY DO I DO THESE THINGS? )

3. 5 days of hair product giveaways starting next Monday at Hair Thursday.

4. Because gross feet suck, 10 ways to beautify your toesies this summer.

5. As I mentioned on Twitter, I bought two more maxi dresses yesterday. Uh, I now own SEVEN maxi dresses. This needs to stop. (Are they really the new mom jean? TELL ME IT ISN’T SO. I think they are downright darling with the right accessories! I guess being tall helps too…what say you?)

6. I am BEYOND THRILLED to not have to write anything on the internet for two whole days.

7. Dude, it’s Friday! Enjoy your weekend!

I love a maxi dress, but unfortunately for me, there is a height requirement. I’d guess at least 5’6.” My poor tiny 4’11” frame could never pull it off.

I also love the highlights! I’m very into seasonal hair coloring.

You so obviously stole the title of this post from my post yesterday. Which is cool since I’ve copied you approx. 57 times in the past two weeks.

I love the maxi dress but haven’t bought one yet… is 5’7 tall enough? The thought of hiding my somewhat dumpy frame is rather nice, but would the dress make it dumpier?

5’7″ is definitely tall enough, Kim. (That’s how tall I am.)

However, I must say I’ve seen a few petite exceptions to the rule, so maxis aren’t ALWAYS just for taller gals.

Thank you for the inspiration (and the assurance that I’m tall enough) because I just now got back from buying two maxi dresses at Target and even though I (obviously) haven’t worn them yet, I’m really happy! And I’ll probably post about them and thank you for it!

I was in Union Square last weekend, and there were so many beautiful women in the maxi dress. I love skirts, and these things are so feminine. It made the super skinny look less pointy, and it made the curvy girls look beautifully balanced. I have always loved this style of dress, and I think it works well in colder months too with a snug cardigan and well placed scarf. Mom jean made everyone look pear shaped. Maxi dress makes everyone look girly and slim.

My two cents about being short: I think if you are long waisted, you can pull it off. It E-Long-Gates the enshorttened. (I think neologisms are a sign it is my bed-time.)

well damn, I’m on the short side, myself and now own 4 maxis. I LOVE them. And I agree with whoever else said that you need to post pictures of the ones you bought. :)

I put off buying a maxi dress for a while……..surely it’s just a quick fad, in & out. I now own 6 and did actually just return one or I’d have 7 as well.

But they’re COMFY, and yet people always comment on me being “dressed up”. Just a fancier version of the muu muu!

I agree with Jessica. I think the length of your torso matters a lot. I am short-ish (5’3″/5’4′) with a very short waist. So every time I try on a maxi/long dress or a long skirt, I take it off just as quickly. They just aren’t flattering. They make me feel short and it seems they focus the eye on the arms and shoulders- and my upper arms are a little flabby and not my best feature.
However, I have been blessed with great calves and good gams….
