Hello! I have read your writing and loved your work for easily 10 years and this might be the first time I’ve commented! One thing I learned recently is that the use of the word “kimono” to describe, you know, robes and open sleeve wrap style jackets etc. is rooted in cultural appropriation of traditional Japanese dress. and there’s a long history of discrimination of Japanese people in the united states. I follow little koto’s closet on instagram and she’s been active about this topic and i’ve really been inspired by her leadership in lifting up Black, Indigenous, and voices of other people of color in fashion topics. Here’s a little more info on Kimono. https://densho.org/my-kimono-is-not-your-couture/ Some retailers are getting on board with changing the names of their clothes and of course, some are not. I thought you would want to know!
