The one nice thing about flying to New York and back for one day of work is that I can recap every detail of my trip in 13 photos. Proceed!
Sunday morning. The family drops me off at the airport. Wita starts crying. Wito starts crying. I start crying.
While completely heart-wrenching at first, I quickly deduce that the children aren’t, in fact, crying solely due to my departure. Nope, at this point, they are competitvely trying to OUT-CRY one another, resulting in some eardrum-shattering decibels and concerned looks from bystanders. Thanks for the sendoff, little ones.
Fly to New York.
One piece of advice for those of you who are planning to read Bossypants on your next flight. Don’t. Because you will either a) laugh so hard and so loudly that many of your fellow travelers think you insane or b) try desperately to conceal your laughter, which will result in tears streaming down your face and a convulsing body.
I chose option B, and I’d just like to apologize to the sweet lady in 17E who thought I was having a seizure. Sorry for frightening you, my lady. (WHO CAN’T STOP WATCHING/OBSESSING OVER DOWNTON ABBEY???)
Arrive at JFK at 9pm. Await baggage while taking photos of my shoes.
A little FaceTime at the hotel around 10pm.
Stare at the dark ceiling from 10pm – 2am because I’m totally on California time. Looks something like this.
Wake up Monday morning. Look out the window. Looks like rain. DRAT.
Take shower. Quick walk to a nearby bakery for a scone and an actual CAFFEINATED latte. Mama was tired, yo. Return to hotel to gather outfits for the shoot. (p.s. – I didn’t buy anything. REPEAT – I DID NOT BUY ANYTHING. Staying strong for the challenge!)
Walk to The Thread studio in Times Square.
Arrive at studio. Hair/makeup. Go over scripts. Snap a quick pic. (No new clothes, as you can see!)
Watch the adorable Sarah Bernard, host of The Thread.
Get ready to shoot segments. Experience my usual OMG I AM GOING TO FORGET EVERYTHING AND MUTTER freakout, followed by a long, deep breath.
Film segments. (Can’t wait to share with you!) Walk home in the rain after a long day.
A little more FaceTime with the family.
Go to sleep. Wake up. Look out the window, get pissed because it looks like it’s going to be a beautiful day and I have to leave for the airport in one hour.
Fly home. Read Seabiscuit, which does not make me convulse with laughter, but is completely riveting nonetheless. By the way, this is not a book I would normally pick up (read: not an animal person, no interest in horse racing), but it was so interesting and beautifully written. Had me hooked within the first few pages. Goodbye, New York!
Arrive home late Tuesday afternoon. Walk around like a zombie. Crash at 8:30pm, so happy to be in my own bed.

Trying to decide which is worse — going all that way and barely seeing anything due to trying to fly in at the last possible minute and fly home at the earliest possible second to minimize time away or spending a few extra hours there to make it seem worthwhile. Thoughts?

I wished I could have stayed longer on Tuesday, but I didn’t have that option. Definitely take some time for yourself…it will make your reunion with your son even more exciting!
