I can count on one hand the times I’ve written something negative about a celebrity’s hair on this website. However, this is an instance in which I won’t be able to keep my mouth shut.
When I saw Katharine McPhee’s platinum blonde hair for the first time, a little part of me died.
To this day, when I see that blonde photo, it triggers some sort of blinky-eyed, vapid response in which my body becomes totally unresponsive. Please tell me this was not a personal decision. For the love of God, SOMEONE TELL ME IT’S FOR A MOVIE ROLE.
WHY, KATHARINE, WHYYYYYYYY?

September 29, 2009 at 6:19 amNoooooooo! That is awful! I used to think she was so gorgeous.

September 29, 2009 at 6:45 amShe’s still pretty but I agree her hair looked gorgeous natural. I can’t fault her for experimenting. I had a bombshell phase in my twenties and honestly it was loads of fun.
I also had a blond phase in my twenties and honestly it was loads of FUG. haaaaaa

September 29, 2009 at 7:01 ameek! i can understand someone wanting to experiment with colour, but going platinum blonde was just a bad idea for her.

September 29, 2009 at 7:39 amOh, no. No, no, no, no, NO. There’s no denying that the girl is gorgeous, but this hair reminds me of something one of the Muppets might sport. And that ain’t right.

September 29, 2009 at 7:42 amI can’t help but consider the HORROR that will be her roots situation.
Holy moley.

September 29, 2009 at 7:49 amOh no, no, no. She has gone from the perfect hair color (and the picture I take to my colorist and say – I want that!) to an rejected extra from My Name is Earl.
Oh, Katherine, why???
Rachel
September 29, 2009 at 8:26 amI read somewhere she is trying to change her image for her new album; Be more “edgy”.
a la David Bowie? or perhaps Edie Sedgwick?
Could be fun for a while, harder for people to recognize her as “that American Idol girl” but she is going to be sad when she realizes it will never be shiny again until it all grows out, even if she dyes it back.
Who am I to judge. I’ve done it. ( Not saying I’m proud! :P)

September 29, 2009 at 8:31 amIt’s not just the color — though I hate the color — it’s the color AND the horrible cut, and the fact that her hair now looks like singed straw. I wouldn’t like either of those alone and together they’re just horrifying.

September 29, 2009 at 9:06 amOh no!! Her hair was so perfect before – I second your “WHY, KATHARINE, WHYYYYYYYY?”

September 29, 2009 at 9:08 amMy starting color was a little bit lighter than Katharines and I went blonde (under your idea, I might add). It also did not look good though mine was nowhere as light as hers. It does bring out her eyes nicely, with the brown you don’t notice them as much.
Brunette turned blonde never looks good in my opinion.

September 29, 2009 at 9:11 amOk so I saw her do an interview right after she did this. And in the video she was shooting, it looked amazing. In this photo? Not so much. I get wanting a change, but man she had great hair before.
Kristin
September 29, 2009 at 9:57 amThat is just wrong. She had hair that anyone would ‘die’ for and now she has hair that, no doubt, anyone would DIE for.
If she wanted edgy, a funkier cut would have done in my opinion :)
