So You Think You Can Dance is the most riveting television program in the history of time.
There. I said it.
I said it so you don’t have to, people.
Wait. Why, you ask? Oh please, let me enlighten you.
1. Cat Deeley has great hair.
2. Mary Murphy is totally Paula Abdul’s older, more responsible sister. She’s the one trying to get little Paula off the druggos and it’s all about the positive reinforcement. Both women are carriers of the B463 (unnecessary bouts of waterworks) and the D387 (getting their middle-age groove on) genes. They both make no sense, need serious cosmetic intervention and use words that are way too young for them. Were his moves really “wicked”, Mary? Because, um, last time I checked, you were the ballroom dancer judge. The show already has a hip-hop judge, and I don’t think he’s appreciating you getting all up in his shiznit, yo.
Most importantly, how does Ms. Murphy have an overbite and an underbite at the same time? Is that anatomically possible?
3. I am so pleasantly baffled by the Benji family. Benji, Benji’s sister, Benji’s cousin Heidi…what is going on in this troupe? They are unbelievable.
4. Travis from Season 2. Travis, I’ll drop everything for you, regardless if your MySpace profile name happens to be “hardassbitch“.
5. The interesting apparel choices by the ladies. Several times, I’ve found myself covering one eye, fully confident that the tiny piece of spandex covering their mons pubis is going to roll downward to the knee area, thus displaying dancer coochie to all of America.
6. Many more reasons, but it’s starting RIGHT. NOW.
*The opinions expressed herein are those of Whoorl, proud owner of the Center Stage DVD.

May 31, 2007 at 8:14 pmYou SOOOO kick ass. So You Think You Can Dance is one of my top 5 fave shows EVER, I’m totally in love with Benji (actually considered naming my son Benjamin) AND Center Stage is a frequently watched movie in my house!!!

May 31, 2007 at 8:30 pmI want to say I can’t stand Mary’s laugh, because really? It’s ridiculous. But secretly, I kind of adore it. Is that wrong?

June 1, 2007 at 4:22 amThis is where you and I part ways. I hated Travis. I was SO afraid he was going to snark the win away from my beloved Benji…
I’m not sure if you read my blog, but this was one of the first thoughts running thru my mind the day my water broke with my twins http://jbrooke7.typepad.com/my_five_little_monkeys/2006/07/so_you_think_yo.html
I’m pretty sure my readers thought I had a problem. :) This season better be GOOD!!

June 1, 2007 at 4:51 amI saw this for the first time last night and I thought Mary was Marie Osmond for a minute. You know your look is bad when you’re rockin the “osmond.”

June 1, 2007 at 5:58 amI couldn’t agree more about SYTYCD. It’s riveting television. And Center Stage? Amazing and Inspiring.

June 1, 2007 at 5:51 amWell, you already know I’m right there with you. Both with the show and with Center Stage. However, which of us got tickets to the SYTYCD tour last year? HMMM? WHO IS THE BIGGER FAN? That’s right.
Travis kicked Benji’s Mormon butt all over that stage, but I think people voted for Benji because they feared his response if he lost. I mean, as it was he convulsed all over the place when they announced his victory, so I can’t imagine the scene if it had been bad news.
The “outfits” worn by the female auditioners are highly disturbing. What happened to leotards and tights or jazz pants? Is nudity really required to be a dancer these days?

June 1, 2007 at 8:27 amLove Center Stage – though I only watch at night after B has gone to bed so he doesn’t moan around in the living room in agony. Yes, he’s gone to that extreme.
Benji’s whole family is dance freaks. It’s good to know that the whole face contortion thing is genetic, I was afraid he was having spasms last year.
I was deeply touched by all the dancing amputees. Yeah, I went through a box of Kleenex on that one.

June 1, 2007 at 8:46 amCenter Stage! Such a favorite. But, Whoorl, you must stay with the times, there is an even better dance movie now available for your viewing pleasure: Step Up. Just trust me on this one.

June 1, 2007 at 10:14 amI LOVE Mary Murphy. I sort of want to get wasted with her. (And by sort of, I mean totally.) And last night I fell in love with Shane Sparks.

Amen.
Also, I want to be best friends with Mia.
And double also, the finale to Center Stage is one of my favorite movies scenes, Ever. I don’t care that Cooper & Jody’s “student” dance had several acts to it and impossible-to-execute costume changes (HELLO CORNROWS!?), Susan Stroman choreographed a GOOD dance!! And when she goes to Broadway Dance and dances to Higher Ground, I DARE you to just sit still in your seat.

June 1, 2007 at 2:52 pmLove So You Think You Can Dance and Center Stage is one of my favorite movies. I thought I was alone on this…so happy to hear there are others.
Watch Step Up it was good, but not as good as Center Stage.
