If you follow on Instagram, you may have noticed that an old, familiar friend from college reentered my life a few months back. (Except this time I’m not wearing said friend with marbled wool socks and J. Crew rollneck sweaters while listening to Phish.) I think my Instagram comment says it best:
So here’s the thing about Birkenstocks. You buy a pair, promising yourself you won’t wear them all the time, except that they actually make your old lady back feel much better, and thus you become the chick who always wears Birkenstocks.
Yep, that’s me. The chick who wears Birkenstocks.
But, COME ON. They are pretty dang cute, right? And if you haven’t noticed, Birkenstocks are making a huge comeback right now. (Don’t just take my word for it!)
Forget the cuteness factor for a bit, and let’s talk comfort. My sore, old lady back feels 100 times better when I wear these shoes regularly, and I’m not remotely kidding. I LOVE MY BIRKENSTOCKS AND WILL SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS.
It’s summer, you guys. Get a pair. Make it happen. Your feet and back will thank you tremendously. They come in about one trillion colors, so you’ll be sure to find a good match. (I personally have the black and stone. Because one pair just isn’t enough, people. You gotta trust me on this one.)

I always wear flip flops but I haven’t lost all my baby weight after kiddo #3 and the extra lbs along with a cheap pair of Old Navy flip flops meant lots and lots of lower back and joint pain. These solved my problems and I have worn them almost everyday since. I am ready for a second pair and I’m trying to convert all my girlfriends. Thank you so much!

June 18, 2014 at 9:49 amI’m so tired of reading about birkenstocks. They were ‘hip and trendy’ last spring/summer, now everyone is wearing them. When mass retailers are making them, they aren’t unique anymore, but pedestrian. The Gizeh ones you are wearing in black aren’t terrible. But not cute. Not sexy.
When my 60 year old aunt is still wearing them, never stopped wearing them, that’s not a trend I’m going to jump on.

June 18, 2014 at 1:10 pmMy mom is German and Germans have worn these forever ! In Hospitals (my mom was a nurse) everyone wore them. And I thought they were so ugly…And now many years later, my 45 year-old-back LOVES THEM. I don’t really care anymore about delicate fancy shoes ( I end up returning almost every pair of shoes I buy!!!) , I just want to be COMFORTABLE ! The secret so people don’t notice your “ugly” sandals is just to wear more bright lipstick ! And lots of nice perfume ! That is my trick !!! And yes, you need more than ONE PAIR ! They have them in patent leather too !

June 18, 2014 at 2:42 pmI’ve had the same pair of Birkenstocks since 2008 and this year, caved and bought a new pair while my old ones get resoled.
My pampered earthy-crunchy granola feet were *not* ready to break in new ones. Ow. (Absolutely worth it, yes, but still. Ouch. I must’ve gotten an extra stiff new pair to work with this time.)
