Did anyone watch Grey’s Anatomy last night? In the midst of my nanny search, was it really necessary to include a storyline about a nanny backing over a child with the SUV?
And to make matters worse, the child ONLY wants the nanny to comfort her in the hospital? And not her own mom? Who doesn’t even know HER CHILD’S BLOOD TYPE?! OR HER FAVORITE LULLABY? BECAUSE SHE CHOSE TO WORK OVER TAKING CARE OF HER CHILD?!
IS THIS A GLIMPSE INTO MY FUTURE?! Sweet Jebus ABC, could you make me feel any shittier?
I can see it now, Wito scraping his knee and calling out to Marta/Amalia/Heather/Emily/Amy (all fine candidates, might I add).
I better go figure out my child’s blood type.

People forget that part of being a good parent is taking care of yourself. If that means having a career (for you), than that’s what you need to do.

I stopped and checked in on your nanny search and started laughing because I thought “oh, man, I hope Whoorl isn’t watching this. Yikes!” Sure enough- the episode has scarred you. Poor thing. Alas, find comfort in the idea that you hardly ever (um, I don’t think I ever have) hear about nanny’s running over their charges in real life. I think you’re safe. Um, hopefully. I dunno, you California drivers!

NO.
So neither does my nanny.

I think it’s totally natural to worry that a care-giver will have more influence over your child than you will. But just remember that there’s nothing stronger than a Mother’s love for her baby! And Anders love for you!

November 17, 2006 at 1:06 pmI only know my child’s blood type because both Geoff and I are O type blood and I had to have a Rho Gam shot during pregnancy & after giving birth. Don’t beat yourself up about it.
On a better note, I just hit the grand opening of the OKC Sephora with your sister. She actually bought a couple of things – I was shocked!

November 17, 2006 at 8:30 pmI thought of you (I just watched it now) and please, just PLEASE: no. That will not be you. First of all, you are sane. Second of all, NO. You will be there! Look, kids do it all the time, and that kind of thing just does NOT HAPPEN.
And finally, I don’t know my own blood type, much less any spawn of mine.

November 17, 2006 at 9:39 pmI don’t know my daughter’s blood type – Heck, I only figured out my OWN blood type about a year ago!! It’s not the type of thing that most people NEED to know!
Also – my mom did the working mother thing, and I enjoyed my various childcare providers and I NEVER, not ONCE, thought to myself “I’m hurt/unhappy, I want my babysitter”. Hope that makes you feel better.

hey, on grey’s anatomy they do all sorts of stuff that doesn’t gel with reality- like have heartwarming talks down by the water. not many seattle-ites do such a thing. i’m just saying! it will all be ok.

Oh, and I think Emily is a great name, so she’d likely be a great nanny :)
