GAH. Somehow, I lost the first half of this post in my archives. Sorry, Courtney!

Meet Allison.

Allison’s Hair:

Highlighted
Very Fine
Straight
Unwanted hair flippage (especially her bangs)
Stubborn cowlick that drives her crazy
Willing to work with products and tools

Allison sent me a photo of her cowlick and what happens to her bangs by the end of the day, so my first suggestion is to lose the bangs. Bye bye. I know she loves the idea of bangs, but no amount of product will help a cowlick that stubborn.

Let’s work with what you’ve got, Allison! Shiny, straight hair! If I had super-straight hair, a bob (inverted or one-length) would be my hairstyle of choice. Looking at Allison’s 2nd photo, I would recommend growing out the bangs, so that her sides are one length and even, but keep the graduated layers in the back.

Option #1 is a great-looking inverted bob, with the front portion of hair being the longest (thus keeping the cowlick under control). It shouldn’t be too difficult to style, since Allison already knows how to work with graduated layers in the back and the front should only need a round brush, hair dryer and a tiny dab of shine serum.

Option #2 is a one-length bob, which Allison could totally pull off with her finely-textured, straight hair. Remember, the longer the top layer of hair, the less amount of flipping will occur during styling or throughout the day. This option definitely is more traditional, so I would recommend punching up her color a couple of notches.

And now for the Whoorl Hair Thursday disclaimer.

Whoorl is not a hair professional, although she plays one on the internet. Please consult with your stylist before making any of the suggested changes. If your hair stylist sucks and does a horrible job, please do not hunt Whoorl down and hurt her. It is not Whoorl’s fault, as she is only trying to spread the hair love. Any other issues may be directed to Whoorl’s customer service department.

This concludes the First Annual Hair Thursday. Please leave your wisdom in the comments section for these ladies! Have a great weekend!

I was really torn for Courtney and ended up voting for Option 2, but really liking 1 as well.
For Allison, it was no problem choosing Option 1. I think she’d look awesome with that kind of bob.

    Great start to hair Thursdays!

    I’m loving this!

Oh, and a side note to Courtney… I have very similar hair and recently cut mine very similar to Option #2 and I’m loving it. Although I don’t have an aversion to serums – the right amount (not much at all) on wet hair does wonders for everyone. Or at least that’s what I think.

Allison, some salons also call it shaping. Pritters is right though, it just means defining the shape of the brow from the under part, and sometimes trimming up the tops. I also regularly get my eyebrows waxed, but I don’t always get them shaped. However, when I do, it does open up the whole face. I find that a good eyebrow shaping will lessen my need for makeup.

True story, when I lived in Denver, I had an eyebrow girl that I loved, and I scheduled my driver’s license photo around my shaping appointment. I am eyebrow obsessed.

I love hair Thursdays… this is exciting! I probably need to throw my pic into the ring because I’ve been growing out my bangs but now have Bang Envy due to your new ‘do. This is always what happens. I hate my bangs, so I grow them out, and then I see someone whose bangs I crave, so I cut them again. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Whoorl you are awesome! How fun to have a hair virtuoso suggest great styles and then have the entire internet make even more great suggestions. I can’t wait for my turn, although I’ll admit I caved and lopped off 5 inches yesterday, but I think you’d approve of the style : )
