hair thursday makeover 48

So, did you enjoy Becca’s Emmy piece? I thought she did a bang up job, considering it was her virgin Hair Thursday post.

With all of this new editor shuffling, I almost forgot this week’s HT participants. ALMOST.

Meet Shelly.

Shelly’s hair:

Naturally medium-dark brown
Highlights it blonde
Chemically-processed
Straight
Has worn it long for a really long time, but needs a change
Spends about 20 minutes styling, blow-dry and flat-ironing a few uneven pieces
Uses a shine gel to calm the frizzies
Rarely wears ponytails
Lives in a dry environment

Okay, miss Shelly. You want a change? Be careful what you wish for because I’m gonna give you some CHANGE. (For the past ten years, every single time I say “change”, I immediately think of Raising Arizona, when Ed yells, “We got a child now, everything’s CHAAIIINGED.”)

Since Shelly doesn’t like ponytails in the first place, how about these options?

Option #1 would be such a fresh change (Everything’s CHAIIINGED!) for Shelly’s hair. Her naturally straight hair is perfect for this style, and I would recommend continuing to put blonde highlights throughout. (Maybe creating an even blonder look?) This style would really play up Shelly’s face shape and features. Sexy, no?

Okay, Option #2. I know what Shelly is probably thinking about this very short cut (HELL NO), but let me make my (very valid) points. Yes, it would be a huge change, but if Shelly was willing to make the cut, oh my LORD, it would look so beautiful with her eyes and face. Seriously, her gorgeous eyes would look huge! Plus, the way Shelly’s bangs fall forward and to the side would be perfect with this cut. However, it’s short. I KNOW, but you must have faith in Whoorl.

Honestly, both would be beautiful. It’s more of a HOW-MUCH-change-Shelly-is-willing-to-make issue.

What do you suggest?

Our next participant is Darcey.

These were the original photos Darcey sent me. (Good GOD, how cute does she look with bangs?)

When I emailed for an updated photo, Darcey sent me this:

Darcey, my dear. There are many, many people in this world who have some seriously FUGLY hair issues, and you are not one of them. You’re gorgeous, your hair is gorgeous, and I think you know where this is going. Don’t you?

Darcey is our next inductee into The Fishing Club. Congratulations, you shiny-haired minx.

I just spit Crystal Lite energy drink all over my monitor! Darcy has great hair, and Shelly, chop it off! It would look incredible!

Oh yes, Shelly, you MUST trust Whoorl and her brilliant readers. The short cut would be drop-dead sexy and fresh. Yes, yes, yes.

Shiny-haired minx…ha! Darcey, you’re perfect just the way you are.

If Shelly is freaked about going so short (and of course I think she should!), she could do a combo to get used to it — go with the bangs and all the layers, but keep some length (maybe a little bit shorter than Gwyneth’s?). Then, when she gets tons of compliments (and she WILL!) chop off the rest and get even MORE compliments!

I do think Shelly would look fabulous with Option 2, but maybe she could ease into it by first going with Option 1 for awhile and THEN going to Option 2.

Shelly, if you’re reading this, there is a barista at Starbucks where I sometimes go who I think is one of the prettiest/gorgeous women I’ve ever seen. And she has a very short pixie hair cut that looks PERFECT with her features. Not just anybody can pull off the short hair do, but if you can, I say go for it.

Shiny-haired minx, hmm? From you, Sarah, I will certainly take that as a compliment and pass it along to my hairstylist.

Although I can promise that all 3 pictures are the “best of” kinda shots – unfortunately, I didn’t have a picture of me rocking my curly/wavy-ness (and I wasn’t wearing it the day you requested, or I’d have sent you a PhotoBooth pic). Case in point – I couldn’t get the air-dry to work with me today, so I had to pull out the ponytail option.

Though you have inspired me to go a little stronger with the bangs when the weather might be more apt to work with me this winter!

I agree that Shelly simply must go short. Do it for all of us that wish we could pull it off but just don’t quite have the face for it. Do it for yourself. Do it for whoorl. Just do it.

Oh Shelly – your gorgeous face is BEGGING for some short hair. Especially since it appears that you have the straight shiny hair that I sometime feel like promising my first born to someone for if they could JUST MAKE MY HAIR DO THAT.

    ahem.

(so we’ll talk later about a potential eyeliner intervention, but MAN — I cannot possibly explain how jealous I am that you have the hair AND the face to pull off that short cut) ;)

Who is the model in the short hair photo? I want to get some pictures of her hair at different angles. Does anyone know?

Shelly and Darcy are both so pretty! Shelly will look great with either hair style. And Darcy has super awesome hair. I want it.

Awww!! Thanks for the sweet comments everyone! I think I really might be tempted to start with option 1…..option 2 is VERY drastic for me and I have had long hair my ENTIRE life. I do have a round face, which doesn’t really show that well in these pictures, so I am kinda scared about going that short…..but thanks so much for the tips and compliments!!

Option #2’s short hair model looks an awful like Eva Amurri (Susan Sarandon’s daughter) – but I’m not 100% sure with the makeup and that full-front image.

(I think she’s absolutely gorgeous, by the way!)

The photo is Holly from Bravo’s show, Make Me A Supermodel. (She was the winner, by the way.)

Oh, I thought she looked reality show familiar. Too late though, I have already chopped all my hair off ala Vicky Beckham and am loving it. Should change my gravatar.
