We still haven’t attempted our first single, “Cinnamon Stix”. It’s a beautiful song, reminiscent of our last visit to Santa Fe when Bishop Stu Tu compared the results of a trip to the bathroom with the consistency of the aforementioned. Did I mention the Whoorl family loves the poop talk? Oh well, I’m sure the 3 of you wanting a video won’t be too crushed.
4 out of 6 of us are sick with colds, including Wito who hasn’t experienced even a sniffle in the past 9 months. I’m on high alert over here, trying my hardest not to get sucked into the new mom tailspin. He doesn’t have a fever, just copious amounts of snot and generalized crank ass. Total bummer.
Any baby cold tips (high altitudes included) would be greatly appreciated!

May 2, 2007 at 9:44 amEvery time we have taken Madeleine home to Utah to visit family (that would be 4 times now – good grief), the climate change wreaks havoc on her and she ends up with terrible colds. I know a lot of people hate them, but the nasal aspirator has become one of my best friends. Also a humidifier, though a couple of times the peditricians have recommended a vaporizer. (Then they say there’s really no difference and everyone has humidifiers but not vaporizers so…) At the high altitudes, they also recommended the saline nasal drops to help keep the nasal passages cleared. I avoided medication and don’t really know many handy non-obvious tips or tricks yet so it’s all very basic, common stuff. It’s always seemed to really help her though – which in turns helps me since she’s not such a bear to deal with, y’know? Good luck!

May 2, 2007 at 10:48 amKim seemed to pipe in on the nasal saline drops. I used them when J had colds as a baby. I also used Coryzalia, it’s a homeopathic remedy for colds (for kids 3 -36 months), not sure if you can get it there, but it helped keep him clear.
Other than that, just a whole lot of lovin, a little extra fluids and you should be great. Keep some Tempra on hand just in case he does get a fever, but otherwise, it’s ok for kids to get a cold, builds immunity :).

May 2, 2007 at 12:06 pmFluids…and baby Dimetapp works for us when it gets real bad. Advil for a fever too. Unless you’re granola – then stick with fluids :)

May 2, 2007 at 2:01 pmBest thing ever! Saline drops in the nose before bed. We do them in the bath tub because you won’t believe the amount of snot that comes out. Plus, the steam of the tub helps. Having a clear nose before bed makes breathing so much easier. All natural too! I make our drops when we need them. Hope Wito is feeling better soon.

May 2, 2007 at 3:24 pmwe are trying to guess the other 2 of you who are sick. let’s see wito, d and we think the third might be you and the forth, maybe the preggers lala. hope ya’ll feel better, i get congested on every trip, flight or change in alt./climate, so i know it sucks. when amo c gets to feelin’ bad on a trip (or any time) he always hits the tequila, are you?
lala and aok are the only ones that haven’t been taken down. d is over it (so it seems). my dad and i are the worst (razors in the throat), although i have big hopes for tomorrow. :)

May 2, 2007 at 4:15 pmMy family loves the poop talk too. The best stuff usually surfaces while we’re eating dinner. Why is that?
Have you tried a humidifier? When Avelyn gets really congested I crank the steam humidifier with Vicks vapor oil in the water and it helps a bit. Get well soon, all!

May 3, 2007 at 4:55 amWe just survived our first cold, too! The only tips I have are to keep sucking out the boogers and vodka. For YOU, silly! I know Wito is a tequila drinker.
And wait. Just wait. The Dr. suggested Benadryl at night but it had absolutely ZERO effect on Jillian so we just wait. And run the humidifier 29 hours a day. And we wait some more. And suck boogers out.
Feel better, Wito!

May 4, 2007 at 10:26 amTake a shower with him and use the Shower Soothers. It’s fun to play in the water and the steam is really helpful. Also Baby Simply Saline, works even better than the snot suckers.

May 6, 2007 at 9:24 pmMy daughter always seemed to find Baby Vicks soothing, even if it didn’t actually relieve the congestion.
