Figuring Things Out

Let’s pretend you are a therapist. I’m sitting down on the couch now.

I’m toying with the idea of consolidating back to one blog. Freelance work is hopping, the kiddos’ activities are increasing every month, and I just feel like running both Whoorl and Hair Thursday is too much. I’d love to be able to focus all of my efforts on one blog, you know?

Plus, writing about hair on an almost DAILY basis at Hair Thursday has become, well, harried. Sure, I still want to share hair inspiration or a product review or a makeover post, but why can’t I just do that here at whoorl? Remember the good ol’ days? MEMORIEEES, LIGHT THE CORNERS OF MY MIIIIIND)

Hmmm, maybe I’m just having a moment. Who knows. Do you have any thoughts on the matter?

Is it crazy to think of it as a brand that could be sold? I bet there’s someone who does like to write about hair who would be happy to take it over with the attention that it’s gotten so far, and you could keep the ability to write on it occasionally. I’m thinking of what Maggie Mason did with mightygoods.com, for one. That way it’s not yours to manage, but it doesn’t take away from the value that you’ve built for that brand.

Just throwing it out there – I don’t have a lot of business experience and haven’t ever made the effort to make anything of my own social media presence, but in my mind I’m an internet superstar.

I remember the good old days. And I miss those Thursday make over posts! One thing Mr. Darcy and I recently realized is that bigger isn’t necessarily better (his gig at a very big video game company that went belly up). I say do what you love and focus on that!

All thing in life eb and flow. Thing start and end. If it’s run it’s course, let it. Don’t keep doing it past when you enjoy it. Life it too short. Do what you love to do when you can. If you don’t feel like hair anymore, ditch it. follow your gut and your heart.

I forget to check Hair Thursday, but always remember to check here. And I always enjoyed the occasional hair moment.

I’d definitely go with the one blog. I did that and found it so freeing.

I have to chime in to missing the reader makeovers, too. Those were great. I’d love it if you brought them back here! But you get to do whatever feels least stressful. I have absolutely zero business sense either, but hey, if you don’t love it AND you could sell it, like mjb mentioned? I think that’s a great plan.

Delurking here to say I agree with others above that I thought the best part of HT were the reader makeovers. I’ve recently stopped checking HT since those were in short supply lately.

I can TOTALLY understand that you are busy with other things (hooray, you!), and think mjb’s suggestion of selling it as a commodity to another interested, invested person/people would be a great idea. You could also farm out some/most/all of the blog posts by taking on contributors, as others have suggested above.

In any case, it’s yours to do with as you will! I certainly won’t stop reading here if HT goes defunct. Congrats on all your successful-busyness!

I support you. Also might you consider selling it for a profit???

I don’t know, it might make you feel funny, BUT you’ve worked hard to create that brand, and I personally think you deserve some profit from it.

(After typing this, I just noticed that someone else has already suggested this.)

I can see your point. Here is my advice:

Why not try and find a protege for Hair Thursday via a blog contest? Find someone new and fresh with a passion for talking about hair to replace you. This new someone would take over your position and Hair Thursday would be theirs. It would totally rock someones socks off!

I prefer if you were blogging over here.

I say go for it. It’s your life. I sometimes can’t keep up with one blog. And once it stops being fun it stops being worth it. Just keep Hair Thursday up as a resource since you’ve done such a great job of compiling all the information. I go back all the time and search different topics. But I’d way rather read about your adorable family. :)

Ok, since you asked, as a HT lifetime follower….I can sorta tell you are tired of it. Do as you wish, I will totally still come here to get fashion inspiration and read your comical masterpieces! Free yourself!

Do what is best for YOU. Also, you should watch The Simpsons Season 22 Episode 20 Homer Scissorhands – Therein lies your answer!

Do what makes you feel good, young grasshopper!

And I think what makes you feel good is posting about whatever you want, whenever you want. And maybe more about make up.

It’s okay if you don’t feel inspired by hair. :) I also like Mama in the City’s idea – I bet someone out there would feel very lucky to take over!

It sounds like everyone is with you, and the vote seems to be for one blog. Hugs.
