Easy DIY Honey Scrub

diyhoney

So I’ve got another honey beauty recipe up my sleeve, and it’s the easiest thing ever. It takes a whopping total of 1 minute to make, and is perfect for gently exfoliating the skin or lips. (Say goodbye to dry, flaky lips for good, for reals.)

Did you know that honey is a natural humectant with antimicrobial properties? Well, yes it is. And as a natural humectant, honey attracts and retains moisture, two qualities that can keep skin hydrated and glowing. Honey has whole body benefits, my friends. Plus, according to a double-blind clinical study[1] to determine the effects of honey and moisturizers on skin conducted by an independent laboratory, honey was shown to effectively moisturize the skin when combined with a leading brand of skin lotion.

Here’s the scoop. The ingredients:

1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp grits (Depending where you live, people might not know what in the heck you are talking about when you ask for grits. Ahem, Southern Californians…)
a drop of your favorite essential oil, optional

Mix them all together, and voilá!

A scrub you can use to gently exfoliate your body. How easy and inexpensive is that? (Also, if you plan to use the scrub for your lips, you really don’t need to add an essential oil because the honey flavor is delicious. Just don’t eat it all.)

This and tons more DIY beauty recipes including honey can be found here. I’m all about trying the one for hair shine next…

[1] The study involved 60 panelists and was conducted in Broomall, PA during the weeks of January 18 and January 25, 2010. The testing followed current cGCP, cGLP as well as COLPIA Efficacy Testing Guidelines.

This post was sponsored by the National Honey Board. Mmm mmm, honey. (They didn’t tell me to say that.)

Thanks for sharing. I have the hardest time keeping my lips from peeling, while using “resurfacing/anti-aging” serums, lotions, what have you. Will give this a try.

Looking forward for the one for the hair. I have long hair and try to keep it as healthy as possible. I use a vinegar rinse on my hair when I am done washing it. I already put honey on my lips, especially when I have a fever blister, I use it on that.
