Brief Whoorlito Update

I had my first cervical exam this morning and…

DUN DUN DUUUNNNNN

nothing has happened. My cervix is tightly closed- it looks like Whoorlito still has some cooking to do.

I was talking to one of my favorite nurses today in an office I call on for work, and I asked her to guess what day Whoorlito would make his arrival. I explained how my “official” due date was August 11th, but all of my 4 ultrasounds had shown a due date of August 5th-7th, which just MUST be more realistic considering the spinny-wheel LMP date is a crock considering I don’t ovulate anywhere near day 14…blah, blah, blah. Do you see where this was going? I was totally priming her for the “Oh, don’t worry, he will definitely come closer to the ultrasound date” response.

Instead, she looked me up and down and with no hesitation said, “August 15th- that baby isn’t coming out anytime soon”.

Thanks a LOT.

Not what you were hoping to hear, I guess? I’ll just tell you what everyone is telling me: be patient. Yeah, the waiting sucks. But we’ll make it! :)

It’s best that you don’t get fooled by any “progress” your cervix makes. I walked around at -2 station, 50-70% effaced and 1 cm dilated from weeks 37 – 39, until I had a c-section at 39 weeks. Baby thought she’d come out butt-first, luckily this was discovered before I was in labor! Anyway, each week I was so excited that the baby may arrive before my due date…just to have my hopes dashed as I wandered around from week to week. Try not to think too much about it, this is one of those things that is impossible to analyze!

I’m due the day after you are, and I’m right there with you. I have a doctor appointment on Monday and I’m kind of hoping she’ll tell me to head over to the hospital and get a room, but so far this baby hasn’t dropped nor are there any other signs of labor. So I have a ways to go. Add to that the fact that the women in my family tend to carry babies (esp. first babies) at least a week past due and I’m looking at almost Labor Day!! Though that would be fitting, haha.

It’s almost better that you haven’t made any progress because then you can’t get your hopes up, as you can walk around for weeks dilated and effaced without anything happening. However, I know you’re getting lots of comments that are less than encouraging, so keep your spirits up! (Not like I’m one to talk since I’ve been grumpy for a couple of weeks, now.)

How come you didn’t karate chop the nurse? ;)

Seriously, that baby had a mind of his own. He will come when you least expect it….and when you fully expect him to. At this point there is no telling. Now it’s like the lottery! Good luck! And I mean that in the nicest way possible.

aw, well it just gives you more time to get ready i guess?

in the meantime, you could always come up with an artist’s representation of whoorlito to satiate our anticipation.

Dilation doesn’t necessarily show progress, I was 2 cm for three weeks and 4cm for one week, and the baby was at station -1 from week 37 till the end. Good luck!

It could happen ANY TIME. With my first, he had dropped, but no “softening”, etc.

That was the Friday. He was born on the Sunday.

Don’t you hate those kind of comments? With boy #2, at my very last appointment at 39w6d, my doctor STILL had to give me an ultrasound to confirm the boy was head down. THATS how high he was. We also set up an induction at that same appointment…less than 24 hours later he was born all on his own.
    go figure.
(this was supposed to be one of those “gives you hope” comments )

I never had any progress, and had 2 false alarms, with no progress at all reported. When I got to the hospital the 3rd time, thinking it was another false alarm, I was dialated to 5 cm and the kid was born 3 hours later. So, you never know. Don’t lose hope.

Oh you poor thing–I remember wanting for it to be over about then too. Those last weeks are kindof ENOUGH ALREADY, aren’t they? Think about it this way though, the longer little whoorlito stays inside, the likelier it will be he’ll have no complications and be healthy and strong.. so. put your feet up, enjoy some sorbet, and enjoy these last days without mama status. Oh, and write a letter to yourself to be opened in a year–I did, and it was hysterically funny to read. To see what I’d THOUGHT things would be like… and, if nothing else, it passes the time!

“still has some cooking to do”

AAAHAHA! I laughed out loud. It’ll be here before you know it, sunshine, and you’ll have that warm baby who’s a mix of you and D in your hands. I, for one, cannot wait.

So…what’re you going to name him? *snickering* ;) I kid, I kid.
