Bikini Bonanza!

I’m still coming off our holiday weekend pool party bender, so I definitely have bikinis on the brain. I love me some bikinis! Like Jora, I’m a huge proponent of the string bikini. I wear both the black one and the plaid one shown above on a near constant basis. (Well, you know, when I’m actually AT the pool…not while running errands and/or picking Wito up from school, dear God.)

Let me tell you, if a two piece bathing suit is your cup of tea, you’ve got to give string bikinis a try. They are surprisingly flattering because you can adjust the ties to fit you perfectly, thus keeping all body parts looking nice, smooth, and free of pinched squish. Ladies, there’s nothing worse than a woman’s body looking like it’s desperately trying to escape the confines of her bathing suit. Down with sausage casing swimwear!

However, I’m not a string bikini loyalist, so I’ve included several types of bikini styles for your perusal.

Light pink (with a FLAMINGO print, I could die!), H&M
Black, Old Navy
Green, J. Crew
Blue, Old Navy
Pink Plaid, Lands’ End Canvas
Plum, J. Crew
Orange, Madewell

I love me some bikinis too! And, these are gorgeous! Agree that the string bikini is totally flattering and everyone should give it a chance. I am partial to the bandeau tops (no tan lines and I find them very flattering for the upper body) so no surprise that my favs here are the H&M and J. Crew ones. LOVE.

Love my black bikini and the fact that it was $10!

The blue one’s my other favorite style!

I’m in love with that green one. So pretty!

And, for some reason, I’m feeling brave enough to rock a bikini at the beach tomorrow in all my pregnant glory. I figure that if I have somehow avoided stretch marks thus far, I may as well flaunt what I’ve got before it gets all squishy.

    Heehee.

My husband is a huge proponent of string bikinis too, just sayin. But I have a little bit bigger requirements for my tops now, at least while I’m still nursing.

I have the blue Old Navy bikini, in that actual blue AND in a paisley print AND in a mismatched turquoise bottom/striped top combo. All the pieces work with all the other pieces (except the striped top and paisley bottom because NO). I love love love my bikinis. They’re the best.

Susan – I am SICK that I didn’t get the blue bikini before they sold out of my size. That color is gorgeous!

I see you went with “loyalist”—nice choice! I’m big/curvy but I love bikinis too. They’re just so much nicer to wear than one-pieces are and I love being able to mix and match my pieces.

Kate – Ha! Yes, I still can’t believe how much of my afternoon was eaten up over that whole word debacle. Love the mix and match as well!!

Bikinis scare the living daylights out of me! Maybe it has to do with the fact that I’ve carried and birth two children (who will use said top to swing from….while I’m wearing it) or because as a teen, I managed to unknowingly lose my bikini top while on the waterslides, stand up totally naked and bare my completely lacking chest to a waterpark of about 300… I’m not sure. But the idea of wearing one ever again makes me gag, just a little.

However, on the right person, I totally love the purple one

OK I have to admit I read this post and thought “She’s crazy and I’m jealous of her! She’s had 2 kids and she can still rock the string bikini?!” But then I planned a totally spontaneous trip to Cancun in a few weeks and realized I needed some swimsuits. I stopped by Old Navy and found a couple including a string bikini. And guess what?! You’re right! The string bikini is forgiving even on a 40 year old body! Thanks for giving me the confidence to try one on. Now I hope that confidence continues when it’s time to actually walk out on the beach in it. I just remind myself there is always at least one other person at the beach that’s going to look worse than me!

I LOVE string bikinis too, for the exact reason you mentioned! I bought a couple of non-string bikinis from Ann Taylor Loft on-line and I I could not close the top because I bought a smaller sizer than I needed. I bought a string bikini from Victoria Secret’s and it was awesome because I can make it as loose or tight as I need! I also have one with cups that move so I can bring them close together for modesty or spread them wide and show off more of the girls!

Try Victoria Secret’s next time you are looking for bathing suits!

Just wanted to add that I LOVE this halter bikini top with the string bottom. The halter-ness of the top gives a bit more, um, support and enhancement. Plus it’s on sale for $8.99!
