Bake sales, rainy days and beautiful broads

My bake sale is this Saturday, and I still haven’t decided what to make. Good God, the PRESSURE. I want to make every single item you’ve sent me. The Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies? A sure winner! Cheesecake-Marbled Brownies? Delish! Cookies and Cream Rice Krispie Treats? INTRIGUING. I…I just don’t know right now. Must get back to you.

Rain is in the forecast for the next couple of days in Southern California. Like actual wet drops falling from the sky with intensity. In all honesty, the last time I remember heavy rain in my area was in the spring of 2004. I will celebrate this incredible feat of nature with a list of my favorite songs with “rain” in the title. (I’m obviously dealing with some premium-grade procrastination issues right now.)

1. Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain – Willie Nelson
2. Come Rain or Come Shine – Etta James
3. Fool in the Rain – Led Zeppelin
4. Here Comes The Rain Again – Eurythmics
5. Rain (Falling from the Sky) – Frank Sinatra
6. Mandolin Rain – Bruce Hornsby
7. Purple Rain – Prince
8. Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head – Burt Bacharach
9. Blame it on the Rain – Milli Vanilli (What? It’s a JAM.)

Feel free to add your own. (You know, if you are also trying desperately to not do what you are supposed to be doing right now.)

Ohhhh, the Broad Summit. What an inspiring retreat. Although the internet brought these women together, computers and internet-ready devices were definitely not in attendance this weekend. Just engaging conversations and lovely experiences across the board. Thank you so much to Maggie, Helen Jane, Laura and Aubrey for such a memorable time.

I think I took a whopping 3 photographs this weekend, but tons of fantastic shots can be found here.

A quick search on my iTunes brought up:
“Another Rainy Day” from Corinne Bailey Rae
“I Guess It’s Gonna Rain Today” from Sondre Lerche.
    Take a listen. :D

And sighhh, I’m so, so, so in love with the weather right now, it’s bordering obsession. But hey, sometimes you just gotta take advantage of the rare Southern California rain, right? Right. :]

See, I moved to San Diego at Thanksgiving in 2004, with two wee boys and a husband who left immediately for a business trip to China, and it rained for 6 weeks straight. And you can’t even go to the mall to get out of the house, there are no indoor malls! I am not even kidding, all my little San Diego friends were all “I love it when it rains, I get so tired of the sun” and I was all, “Shut up I CAME HERE for the sun!” Weird. :)

I would LOVE some rain right about now. We actually get in the car and drive North sometimes to go rain chasing…it’s really really dry at my house…I thought we were supposed to have intermittent sprinkles in Hawaii…sigh.

    Enjoy the rain!

Coming from someone who lives in Rain City, baking is a great activity to do when there is wet outside. Have you paired down your potential ‘bake sale’ list?

#3 takes me waaaay back to the days of ’04 when my BFF used to burns cd’s on my PC. Her songs are still on my ipod to this day as I never figure out the software on DF’s PC to auto update my ipod when we shacked up. I still use his PC, and mine sits unloved at my old man’s place. Everytime I work out I have to listen to #3.

Well you should totally make the Ritz cracker recipe I wrote about in your last post. Because they are fun and easy and everyone will think you are God for making girl scout cookies Incarnate. But if you don’t, Nestle just sent me a link on the best bake sale recipes:
