Anne Hathaway’s Pixie

While we’re on the subject of hair, can I express just how badly I want Anne Hathaway’s pixie cut? I’ve been thinking about this long and hard, and here are my thoughts on the matter.

Reasons why I should go for Anne Hathaway’s pixie cut.

1. It is something completely unexpected for me.

2. It would be a breeze to style. Can you imagine how much time I would save?

3. I could have my own Audrey Tatou moment in time.

4. It’s very rare to see a pixie cut where I live. I mean, it’s ORANGE COUNTY, the land of double process and hair extensions.

5. D is totally on board.

Reasons why I should not go for Anne Hathaway’s pixie cut.

1. I don’t look like Anne Hathaway.

Unfortunately, I think we have a winner, folks.

Thoughts? Would you ever cut a pixie?

God, no. You will regret it. You regretted the collarbone length? This will be waay worse

I think you could pull it off, for sure! However, if you actually enjoy trying different styles and textures like you seem to do, then you may get bored when your options are limited to slicking back/tousling/parting it/headband. Gennifer Goodwin seems to be fine with it, though.

I personally hated having short hair (mine is super thick and straight) and actually have woken up crying because I had nightmares about getting it cut short again, but I am not as petite as you and need some hair to balance the rest of me out.

Go for it! I have very short hair too. I went from about shoulder length to as short as AH’s about 15 years ago. Love it and would never consider long again. Be brave.

I think you would actually look pretty great in a pixie cut! I can see it working with your face. For me, I’d be terrified though. I’ve always had at least shoulder length hair. The wildest I get is getting it cut to chin length!

You could rock it, but I think you would cry and cry just like Anne did when she got her’s cut. She did…. she cried and cried.

I would not advise that trauma right now. Finish your move in and get everything settled. Buy a new jacket instead.

I have had pixie cuts in the past, I had been trying to grow my hair out for a long time.. I don’t know why, it doesn’t look good on me. Yesterday I had my hair appt. and decided to go back to my pixie cut.. I feel liberated!!! My husband loves it, I love it, I love the time I spent this morning getting myself put together… wahoo! I decided 19 years ago to cut my hair off (it was LONG, as most was back then, it was a risk and I have loved it ever since. Go for it!

Have a pixie and adore it. I have never gotten more compliments on my hair (or my face) in my life. It’s a shocker, though, for a while after. When I first did it, I regretted it. And then as I learned how to style it, and style the rest of me with it, I couldn’t imagine anything else.

Maybe baby steps leading up to it? Forever ago when Sassy was still its own magazine, there was an article in it about how a woman went from hair about your length to hair about Hathaway’s length over about 6 months. It was the smartest advice I had ever seen in a magazine.

Either way, you have gorgeous hair!

Do it! Pixie cuts are so hot. In a carefree and sexy way. Plus the cut is super quick to pull off :)

You have the perfect face for a pixie cut! I tried a pixie cut when I was younger, but I have the wrong shape of face. I didn’t pull it off well. DO IT! :)

I checked out your Pinterest board and saw that you also have pics of a blunt bob with bangs. Try that first. If you decide that it’s too short you can more easily grow *that* haircut out than the pixie. Having had a pixie, I will say that it’s not that easy to maintain. Haircuts and color were every 6-8 weeks. It’s fast to blow dry (you must, otherwise your hair will be too flat) but you also need to do make-up and earrings to feel “complete.” Maybe that’s just me though. Good luck with your decision!

I agree! Same here :) It’s fun for awhile, and then the realization sets in about maintenance! I know some people keep a pixie nicely for years though. I’ve always grown it out. But that’s the thing with hair. It grows :)

A pixie would look great on you! I did a pixie years ago, and it didn’t look very good on me. And I felt it took longer to style my hair and needed more make-up to feel feminine. Then again, I am a throw-it-up-in-a-ponytail type of girl. Then it took me forever, with many in-between stages, to grow it out. I wish I could pull it off, but I am going to keep mine long.

I think you would look good in a pixie, but I don’t think you should do it. Remember how stressed you were after just cutting off a few inches? You said then that you’ve essentially had the same style forever and even cutting that much through you for a loop. And all that was was a hair cut.

I cut mine into a pixie a few months ago, and have not regretted the change! In fact I love it, and receive frequent compliments. It’s true that I get trims more often, but I use a lot less product which balances that out. It’s cute smooth or messy, and looks great with thin scarves and clips. I was also dying my (previous very long) hair (lots of grey) and with a shorter cut, I was able to go with a lighter color and some light pieces in the front that blend with grey as it’s growing in. I love it!

Wanted to add — I do use more makeup, but don’t feel any less feminine. Also, I donated my hair to a friend going through cancer treatments which helped any feelings of loss. I think it would great on you, and, selfishly, I would love to see what you do with short hair! You have such great tips normally, it would be great to see how those change.

I did go for a pixie. 1997. Chopped off 10 inches in one appointment.
One of my favorite photos of myself is from that time. It’s perfectly tousled and wavy and I look happy. I love that one of my best hair days ever is captured on film. (Yes. FILM. Oy.)

Speaking of cute pixie cuts…have you ever checked out the blog MaybeMatilda? The author had a gorgeous short pixie. Pinterest worthy, really. Gorgeous!

I recently chopped off 6 inches or so, but instead of a pixie, I’m now going for the short in back/long in front bob, a la Gwyneth. (The first attempt was good, but not quite right. Back to the drawing board!) Who knows, maybe I’ll re-pixie soon!
