Odds and Ends

wash1

1. Hahaaa, do you feel this way about laundry care symbols?

2. You guys, I am shoulder-deep in sourcing for my spring capsule right now. I’m changing the rules for the next capsule…instead of sourcing and purchasing two weeks prior to the new capsule, I’m giving myself a month. Things were a little bit easier in Southern California, where I could walk into almost all of the stores. In Oklahoma, there’s a lot more online shopping happening, thus many boxes being shipped to me and most times, returned to sender. It looks like I’ll be adding about 5-6 items to my spring capsule. So! Here’s where you come in. I’m looking for a pair of black leather sandals that have a wooden block heel. I’m considering these, but don’t know if the buckles will annoy me over time. These are nice too. I’m definitely sold on the natural-colored wooden block heel (not a wedge). What say you?

3. Speaking of capsule wardrobes, here are my outfits from this past week. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

4. Where you should live, according to your Myers-Briggs personality type. I’m moving to Zurich, Switzerland.

5. Have a black thumb? 9 houseplants that are virtually impossible to kill.

6. This was the best thing I saw on the internet this week.

7. An iPhone inside a guitar. Is this real?

8. This is a great article…yes, parenting is not what it used to be. Maybe I should have a martini at lunch today…

9. Just go ahead and look at how many women have been sponsored at Krochet Kids Peru. You guys are AWESOME, and we are so close! Only 8 women haven’t been sponsored yet. I know we can do this.

10. Lastly, sale alert! I have the red and black shade of this blouse in my current capsule, and wear both all the time. Just got marked down from $110 to $62. Super deal, folks.

Happy Friday, everyone!

Cute shoes but those buckles would very much annoy me. I suggest these

very comfortable especially for those of us with feet and back problems.

Surely you already own enough clothes to create a spring capsule without more shopping? You seem to shop nonstop, it would be so much more interesting to read about you making do with what you already own (I thought that was the intent of the capsule?) rather than buying more things. 40 items x 4 seasons is hardly a challenge.

      Hi Blair,

I haven’t shopped for clothing since December when I sourced for my winter capsule, and as a former impulse buyer, that has been a huge improvement for me, personally. (Not saying that’s what needs to happen for you or anyone else, but it is a big step in the direction I’m heading.)

Also, I never intended for a capsule wardrobe to eliminate shopping completely…I still enjoy adding beautiful things to my wardrobe, but I have become extremely particular about what I buy and making sure they will be around for years. Adding 5 items to my wardrobe, but continuing to wear 35 that I already own and still love is exactly where I want to be right now. Hopefully, as each capsule passes, that number will decline.

Most of the capsule wardrobe bloggers that I read (that I mentioned in my original post) follow along the same guidelines that I do, but I’m sure there are some who have completely stopped shopping altogether. Maybe into-mind.com would be a great one for you to follow instead of my capsule. Good luck – hope you find what you’re looking for!

Sarah, you are one class act! and a rock solid responder to a rather mean spirited comment. If I were someone who put my life out there, I’m not sure I could handle it with such grace.

You can buy as many new things as you see fit, it is not anyone’s business to judge you or how you conduct your life. You’ve said over and over that this is about buying quality over quantity and simplifying your life.

I’m loving the pictures of your daily outfit photos. It looks like you are wearing something new every day and gives me inspiration for how to mix things up, even if the capsule idea is not for me.

And those Steve Madden buckles look like they might be uncomfortable. I don’t have any recommendations though as I am a Birkenstocks and flip flop girl all the way in the summertime! Can’t wait to see what you end up getting.

Oh, thank you, Karen. What a lovely comment. Well, that’s one great about blogging for such a long time – I learned long ago that you can’t make everyone happy! (And don’t think for a second that I’m not including my black Birkenstock Gizehs in my spring capsule!)

Gizehs are the best, I’ve had a pair for over 5 years now and they just keep getting better. I think I might buy an Arizona pair this year. BTW, I was so bothered by the previous post that I didn’t read over my comment well before submitting it, hence the exclamation point in the middle of the sentence and redundant “pictures” and “photos.” Oops! I’m married to an English teacher, I should know better … HA!

I love following your blog! The capsule idea is one I am trying out, and being more intentional with what I am going to wear has helped curb my shopping impulses also. I’ll echo the earlier comment- kudos to you for responding to a comment graciously! I’ve also been looking at black/wooden heeled sandals and saw these at Madewell:

Maybe a bit high? But thought I’d share nonetheless!

Always enjoy your blog, but I’m especially enjoying your capsule wardrobe journey. While I haven’t yet built a capsule, your posts motivated me to purge every item of clothing that made me feel ‘meh.’ Such a wonderful feeling to stare only at clothes I like wearing! And it has made me much more intentional about my purchases, as other commenters have mentioned.

This sandal (https://www.everlane.com/collections/womens-shoes/products/womens-ankle-wrap-sandal-black) might not work given there’s not much of a heel, but couldn’t pass up the chance to plug Everlane.

I took the Myers-Briggs Personality test years ago and then just took it again and both times….ISFJ just like you. I’ve never been to Switzerland (and actually live an hour south of Silicon Valley and an hour north of Big Sur on the Monterey Peninsula), but I like the sound of everyone getting along and no drama. I think that’s why living on the CA’s central coast works for my type of personality – it’s not a big city so there isn’t that many people here, there’s minimal traffic, low crime, great air quality, no major freeways, it’s on the coast (which is very relaxing and peaceful), and close to forests and great hiking and nature preserves. I know a lot of people who are always wanting to travel, leave the country, go, go, go, and I’m really happy in my cottage by the sea. I love your blog and that it contains so much information on things that pertain to everyday life. Plus I love watching your two beautiful kiddos grow up. Keep it up!!
