One of my favorite things about being a parent is listening to my children’s mispronunciations and grammatical gaffes. I mean, COME ON. It’s adorable. Especially when you’re engaged in a serious convo. Wita is the master of these flubs, and I will never EVER correct her. Here are some of my favorites.
“toncats” (contacts)
“brickles” (pickles)
“anyfang” (anything)
“photocoffee” (photocopy)
“It’s bendy!” (It’s windy!)
“scaremony” (ceremony)
“stachios” (pistachios)
“olmans” (almonds)
“fooder” (waiter/restaurant worker)
“My tummy is wiggling.” (I’m hungry.)
All past tense verbs are pronounced with emphasis on “ed.” For example. touch-ED, eat-ED, sing-ED, work-ED
“chilada cheeses & lemon caders” – (cheese enchiladas & margaritas…I have no idea, people. And yes, we consume a lot of those.)
“rapartment” (apartment)
“unraser” (eraser)
“rustructions” (instructions)
“waps” (wasps)
“piggy bank ride” (piggy back ride)
“mingos” (mangos)
“extrasize” (exercise)
“You are SO dang it!” (You are so mad!)
What are some of your little ones’ mispronunciations? They sure make me smile!

October 13, 2014 at 7:40 amMy son is two and a half. My favorite is “hop-a-got” = I forgot. My daughter said “merote” for remote for longest time, and I nearly died laughing when she said, “I have a dry unicorn on my finger.” It was a dry cuticle.

October 13, 2014 at 9:03 amOh I love this! J still has a couple of phrases that I can’t quite bring myself to break him of. He still says “reposed to” instead of “supposed to” and “fretzels” instead of “pretzels.” Love.

Backyarden = backyard

October 13, 2014 at 9:16 amMy son had some good ones:
“molders” = molars
“refrigalator” = refrigerator
“sflash” = splash (for awhile he would replace the p-sounds with f-sounds in everything)
“coffeebucks” = Starbucks

October 13, 2014 at 9:25 amOh I could go on forever with my little guys mispronunciations… A few of my favorites are “eeper” – spider, “mingas” – fingers, “noolooloos” – noodles, and “manga” – banana. He has trouble making his “L” sounds so there’s a bunch of others. I’m really going to miss these when he gets older :(

October 13, 2014 at 9:40 amOh my gosh, I love these! My daughter is the same age as Wita and she has some similar mispronunciations!

Tot knot – Top knot (high bun in her hair)
reraser – Eraser
And my very favorite is arm pint – arm pit.

October 13, 2014 at 10:29 amI love this, too! My “free”(3) year old says:
Pop-bicycles (popsicles)
Man-a-can (mannequin, but that’s what he calls any statue)
Ba-zert (dessert)
The cracker room (pantry)
He turns nouns into verbs, like go benching (to sit on a bench), want to chalk, etc.
And once he started his prayers with, “What’s crack-a-lackin Jesus?”

October 13, 2014 at 11:33 amIt was a sad day when my sons outgrew their mispronunciations. Here are some of my favorites:
callerpitter = caterpillar
comftertable = comfortable
mow lawner and/or low mawner = lawn mower
insterting = interesting
gift certicicate = gift certificate
Callerpitter is my all time favorite. I sometimes still use the word, well, just because.

October 13, 2014 at 12:39 pmDid Laura Mayes ever tell you that her little guy used to say “PARADE!” instead of “hooray?” Oh, that kid.

October 13, 2014 at 1:32 pmI don’t know how “cute” this is, but our now 2 year old used to pronounce bridge as b*tch. And because we were so mature we would then say things like “Paul, say Daddy is your bridge.” Real funny. :)

October 13, 2014 at 1:46 pmmolly used to say ‘go’ at the beginning of most words. Some favorites are gonanas, gojamas, golami, goninja, gogiraffe, and gonaculars.

October 13, 2014 at 2:28 pmMy daughter (2.5yo) says “esser-SIZEin” (exercising) and she calls her cousin Ruthie “FeeFee” which I will never correct. :) also, “I don’t do it” when she can’t manage something herself. Last one: my husband has been singing “take me out to the ball game” as her bedtime lullaby since she was about 18mo, so she reffers to the going-to-bed process as “take you ball game” :)

October 13, 2014 at 2:29 pmMy two-year-old’s fun sayings:
When saying goodbye she says, “Bye. Later. Turtles. Adios.” I think the “turtles” came from hearing someone say “Toodles” one time.
She calls herself baby and uses the term “own self” a lot. Like, “Baby drive own self home.” and “Baby walk own self.”
