How To Meditate With a Mala

how to meditate with a mala

I am thrilled that so many of you showed interest in learning more about meditating with Mala beads. It’s been a great addition to my practice, and really think it could benefit you in many ways. Here’s a video with some pointers.

(Also, I guide the beads between my index finger and thumb because it’s more comfortable to me, however the index finger is usually not used as it represents the ego, and meditation is inviting you to go beyond the ego. Instead you can guide between the thumb and middle finger.)

Thank you so much for this! I’ve been meditating daily since January and have found it incredibly helpful in dealing with anxiety, grief, and a whole host of other issues. However, I’ve been hitting a wall lately and just can’t seem to focus. I think I just know my favorite guided meditations too well and my mind tends to wander and start making lists whenever I try to quiet down. I’m going to try to find a mala and give that a shot! Thanks so much for the video and the recommendation for Mala Collective.

Thanks Sarah for some great information! I’ve never tried meditation mostly because I didn’t know much about it. I love the idea of the beads. A beginning and an end. I also think this might be good for my 16 year old who was recently diagnosed with ADHD. She is prone to anxiety/panic attacks. I think this can help her to learn to calm her mind and slow down when I can’t be with her to help her “breathe” through it. I think I’ll start her with a bracelet that way she can always have it with her.

Thank you sooooo much! :D This video arrived at the perfect time! After 18 months of illness, I’m finally feeling well enough to get back to my daily meditations. I will definitely look into buy a mala. I think having one will definitely make it easier to make a point to meditate in the mornings. Like you suggested, I can leave it on my bed side. This way I will do my mala first thing in the morning instead of checking my cell phone lol I just hope I can find Malas here in Cape Town :)

Thank you so much for posting this video. We have had a very difficult 3+ years culminating in a major surgery for me a year and a half ago and now my husband has been bedridden for 7 months with some mysterious illness. I have a lot of anxiety as well as a lot of physical pressure. I have tried to start meditating, but I have not been able to quiet my mind. I think this might be exactly what I need! Thanks for the inspiration!
