Dishing on Downton – Episode 2

Alright, Downton dorks! Kristen and I just filmed our thoughts on Sunday night’s episode, and I can’t stop laughing at this image Kristen made.

d2

You see, it seems that after we film each episode recap, it is nearly impossible for Kristen to find a screenshot in which we look like rational human beings.

Feelings. We have them about Downton.

Here’s our latest. What did you all think of the episode? I mean, EDITH.

Love the recaps, ladies. I, too, was horrified by poor Edith’s situation. A part of me wonders if perhaps, shall we say, her fiance is not particularly fond of the ladies? And is using his age and arm as an excuse to bail?

My other question is this: What in the world was in Bates’ bedding? He found what his cellmate hid, but what was it? A little burlap… roll? Does it matter? Maybe I’m clueless, but I’m finding that story line a bit hole-y. I do think they’re doing a good job casting doubt as to Bates’ true character, though. I’m curious what Anna will piece together.

Bates’ cellmate hid drugs in the mattress. Or so the Downtown recappers at Vulture.com tell us…

Yes, it was drugs, but I only know that from googling it. ;)

When they talked earlier in the episode about the couple that was getting divorced, I felt that was foreshadowing since he talked about how lovely the woman was. I like your theory as well, though. There HAS to be something other than the age excuse.

Agreed! I think he is absolutely going to pursue that woman. Awful.

I love this. It reminds me of my sister and I. She lives in Seattle, so we have long valley girls conversations about our TV shows. I have episode one and two on the DVR, and still have not watched them. Ugh.

I think he did her a favor as heartbreaking as it was. He’s just kind of… creepy. Poor Edith!

Matthew needs a therapist. He seriously was making me crazy with his “logic” guilt about taking that money. Good lord! TAKE THE MONEY MATTHEW!

I don’t get why Bates’ cell mate hates him. I do hope Bates doesn’t break Anna’s heart.

I love Edith so much – my husband on the other hand has taken to calling her “Female Michael Cera” also, WHO on God’s green earth loves Mary? Nobody but what’s his name – the head of the servants.

Female Michael Cera!!! Dying!! Such a good call. And I love Mary. I love her. Matthew on the other hand, get over yourself and your stupid principles!! So annoying.

Bates in the prison is so not interesting. Don’t take the show out of Downtown. It’s not about that.

Also, can we talk about Ethel?? She was not interesting from the get, why does she keep coming back?! Stop! Let it die. Also, her baby never aged. All of WWI happened and he stayed 5 months old. She was never a great person, lets move on.

I’m actually surprised that you guys liked Edith’s wedding gown more than Mary’s. I loved Mary’s and thought Edith’s looked like a Star Trek get up. (No offense to Star Trek fans). BUT, I feel terrible for Edith and thought what’s his name looked up to no good waiting for her to come down the aisle, so I guessed that he was going to call it off. Boo!

I liked this episode more than the premier…

Loving the Bianca Tassel Necklace, Sarah!! :)
