Earlier this year, I shot a video with Levi’s®, and I am so pumped to show you for two reasons. First off, I am a total jean freak. All kinds – skinny, straight, flare, ankle length, dark, light, black, brightly colored – you name it. I am not exaggerating when I say that I wear jeans almost every day of the year. I constantly see lovely women wearing skirts and dresses, and I might bust one out in a blue moon, but really, I’m a jeans girl through and through. Taking my kids to school, working on my laptop at home, evening cocktails with friends, date night with my husband…all perfectly acceptable times to wear jeans in my eyes.
However, one of my issues with jeans is the whole size/shape issue. Overall, I’m a slender person, but lots of jeans don’t work for me because although I wear a smaller size, I am not a stick figure. I have a very defined hip-to-waist ratio with a “perky” rear end, so when most jeans fit well on my backside, they usually gap at the waistband. I have spent my adult life searching for jeans that fit my body type, and they are few and far between.
When I was approached by Levi’s® to try out their new Curve ID line, I was skeptical. Levi’s® had not been a label I’d worn in the past, and I pretty much held a preconceived notion that you had to be more of a “straight” body type to wear them. However, the whole idea behind the Curve ID line is that jeans should be made to fit your shape, not just your size. They told me about the Levi.com Curve ID quiz that helps to classify your shape, whether it be no curve, a little curve, lots of curve or super duper curve. (Um, those are my designations, not Levi’s®.) I took the quiz…and well, you just need to watch the video because it explains it all. Levi’s® hit the nail on the head, though. My Curve ID jeans totally fit my waist, rear and hips simultaneously. Holla! The OTHER reason I am so excited about this video is a much more personal one. You all, this video makes me so incredibly happy. As a family, except for a few random holiday snaps, we have never had photos taken of the four of us, much less a video documenting a day in our life. To watch my kids goofing off around the house and running around the beach fills me with such joy. I am so grateful to Scott Compton and the team at Remedy Editorial for putting together a lovely snippet of my family life that will be cherished for decades to come.

March 1, 2012 at 9:10 amI, on the other hand, am a longtime Levis wearer. And I HATE the new Curve ID lines. None of the jeans from the line that I’ve tried fit me properly and the salespeople at the Levis store nearby were no help at all! So for the first time in years, when I bought new jeans last month, I had to go for another brand. I am not a shopper, so this did NOT make me happy. Oh well, guess they can’t make everyone happy!

1. I can’t wait to hear what you have to say on Pantene. I haven’t been a fan for years, but rumor has it that this version is different? I assume you will tell us all about it at some point, yes? Yes!
2. Where did you get that yellow blouse (if it is even yours? Is it clear yet that I have no idea how commercials work?). Because, I WANT.

YES! I can’t wait to get started with my Pantene posts next week. I’m writing one post a week for the month of March at Hair Thursday and I will totally get into why I really love Aqua Light. (First things first, Pantene took the silicone out of the Aqua Light formulation, which means saying goodbye to buildup! More on that next week, though.
I got the yellow blouse at Target. TARGET! How awesome is that? I actually bought it when I was pregnant with Wita – just hoping it would fit once I was back to my non-pregnant shape. It’s such a fun shade of yellow, and it’s my husband’s favorite on me!

March 1, 2012 at 9:43 amSo, here’s what I want to know about the Curve ID line: how does it wash/age? I’ve bought a few pairs of Levi’s & Gap jeans that I’ve loved in the store, but then after a few wears and a wash or two they invariably shrink or stretch and aren’t the same fit anymore. That, or the quality of the denim is cheap enough that after three months of bike rides the crotch/butt fades and rips.
So, Sarah, our precious Style Maven… Any thoughts on how Curve ID will do over time?

March 1, 2012 at 9:51 amWell, I have only had the jeans since last December, but I have worn both pairs many times and haven’t seen any issues with quality. (However, I don’t ride a bike everyday so I can’t speak to that exactly.)
Two things to keep in mind, though. The black denim runs really small. In fact, when I checked out the reviews on Levi’s site, many people had to go up 2 sizes. I only went up one size, but they are still pretty snug. I HAVE noticed that the black denim shrinks way more than typical blue denim washes. I make sure to dry my black ones on medium heat, and for a short time.
My favorite pair is the Bold Curve straight pair I am wearing on the beach. They feel great, wash well, and don’t shrink in the dryer. Hope that helps!

Maybe the solution for me personally is that Levi’s will offer their bike messenger line (reinforced bum, water-resistant denim, reflective tape on the cuffs) in Curve ID. Right now the messenger line is only available for dudes, but fingers crossed they’ll make them for the ladies too.

March 1, 2012 at 12:38 pmLove this video of you and your family. Sadly, like the other poster, none of the Curve ID styles worked for me. I am TRULY slender at 5′ 8″, 116 lbs and typically a size 2 but very proportionate 35-24-35. I automatically assumed that the “Slight” curve would fit me but when I tried them they just flattened out what I had in a very bad way and the “Demi” curve wasn’t flattering either. I was a little disappointed nothing worked for me but you can’t win them all. I do have tons of jeans that fit just fine, I guess I just wanted these to work also. Enjoy your success and don’t apologize for the opportunities that have come your way. You’re gracious and thankful for everything you’ve worked to achieve so enjoy it while it’s happening. You go girl!!!
