Well. You all are about the most lovely people ever. Thank you so much for your supportive comments this week. Really, you had such wonderful things to say, and I loved reading every single one of your achievements. We’ve got some serious superwomen in our midst.
As much as I want to leave that post up forever and ever amen, the show must go on. Remember my quick trip to New York? I was there to film some segments for The Thread, and here is the first one featuring spring fashion and beauty essentials. Just to give you a little background, part of my job at Style United (besides writing and vlogging) is to be the media spokesperson for the website, so my title can range from “Style United Beauty Blogger” to “P&G Beauty Expert” to “Her Ladyship.”
Okay, maybe I’ve been watching too much Downton Abbey. Sadly, the Ladyship title is out of reach, but in this case, “P&G Beauty Expert” was their choice. Uh, P&G Beauty Expert? I’ll take it. (Seriously, can I put that on my resume?)
The latter part of this video features me modeling some fashion essentials for spring, and let me just say, a sheer mini-dress almost sent me packing. You all, I do not wear miniskirts or mini-dresses. EVER. Never ever ever EVER. The only time I will wear a skirt that is clearly above my knee is in the winter when I can cover my legs with tights. (And that happens about once every two years.)
While I might appear cool as a cucumber during the fashion segment, the inner workings of my brain were all DEFCON 5 NAKED LEGS NAKED LEGS ABORT MISSION NAKED LEGS. I can’t really explain why I feel this way…some people are scared of heights or sharks or snakes, I just happen to be petrified of miniskirts. Not to mention that the dress was completely see-through, and the slip barely covered my derriere.
What can I say, I’m a puritan. Enjoy my naked legs!

I know most of them contain some pretty awful chemicals, esp Pantene and aluminum and parabens in the deodorant which link to certain cancers, i.e. breast cancer. Just curious what you use at home since I know a lot of us now stay clear from unnecessary chemicals in products. Thanks!

February 16, 2012 at 10:49 amHey Laurel! Yes I do – I use the Secret deodorant, Pantene shampoo and conditioner (although not that type- my hair is by no means fine and limp, I use the brand new Aqua Light), and I do use an Olay moisturizer, but the one I use is for sensitive skin.
I do try to switch my routine up with more holistic products for my face and cosmetics (for instance, an organic rose facial oil in the evenings), but I’ve yet to find a deodorant that I like besides Secret.

February 20, 2012 at 11:15 amHA! When I first read P&G Expert, I was like, well I’m really out of the loop. P&G?? The only P&G I’m familiar with is Proctor and Gamble – and it’s NOT THAT! Imagine my surprise and delight, as a stockholder, to see that YOU are representing them!! THAT’S AWESOME!! I couldn’t have picked anyone better. You are such a natural on camera, and I’m just glad they didn’t make you demonstrate putting on the deodorant – LOL!! You know how they always say to use the products you have stock in, and that’s easy for me. Pampers, Magic Eraser, Secret, OxiClean, Tide, Oil of Olay – we are definitely a P&G household. Which brings me to a question about Pantene. I saw your video when Pantene launched their new Beautiful Lengths line and that’s what I’ve been using. Then being the enabler that you are, I was in ULTA on Saturday buying my Hot Tools curling iron and they all but shamed me into buying anything but Pantene. “You should at least buy something that’s tested on human hair and not animal hair.” I walked out with some Redken and figured since I don’t color my hair, me and my hair were definitely worth $26 and it was Buy 2 get 1 free so I got the Redken Glass for free. But I had to laugh when I had two different employees complimented me on my hair – styled and maintained with Pantene products! What’s the deal? Do you notice that big of a difference when you use “salon quality”? And wish me luck. I’m following your curling iron tutorial and doing my own hair on Friday and attending The Wish Ball for the Make A Wish Foundation. I need to practice. You make it look so easy!!

February 20, 2012 at 11:43 amThanks, Sonja! You know, I like to mix things up when it comes to hair products, so I love brands all across the board. My top three brands are Oribe, Redken, and Pantene. I will say that Pantene is by far my favorite drugstore brand. Have you tried the brand new Aqua Light? I love it. (Not sure if it is in stores yet, but will be soon if not.)
And no, to be completely honest, I don’t see much of a difference between my favorite drugstore brands and my favorite salon brands in regards to how my hair looks and feels when I use them.
