The Best Dry Shampoos

Ladies and gents, if you haven’t seen the light in regards to using dry shampoos, you best be watching this video and taking notes! Dry shampoos are amazing for quickly cleaning second and third day hair, keeping oily bangs at bay, and awesome for post-workout hair. (I seriously need to buy stock in Klorane, is all I’m sayin’…) Enjoy!

    I’ve been on a dry shampoo quest for the last year. I’ve tried several different brands without zoning in on the right one for me. I tried the Klorane on your recommendation (I have the aerosol one) and I like it. I’ve only used it once so I need to keep experimenting with it. My favorite dry shampoo is one by Ojai but it has such a strong scent (like patchouli) that I am still searching for a replacement.

    I haven’t watched the video yet (i’m at work, hee), but my favorite is the Oscar Blandi powder. It’s a little harder to work with than the aerosol, but it lasts infinitely(!) longer. I do really like aerosol powder for back-combing, though.

    What about us ladies with curly hair? I never brush my hair once it is dry, so am I out of luck?

    I have really fine hair and have never been able to go a day w/out shampooing because my hair would start to look greasy. After you dry shampoo, do you then have to use any other styling products. I feel so stupid asking…

    Thank you so much for this post! I am scheduled for surgery in two weeks, and like you, have two little ones underfoot and generally could use a little time saving tips! Since I know I’ll be bed-ridden and out of commission, I decided on a whim to stop by Hair Thursday to see if you had any recs on dry shampoos, and this was absolutely perfect! Thank you!

    Oscar Blandi makes a good one, too. I picked up a mini size (powder) at Sephora. It smells nice and a very small amount will work in quickly and lasts for 2 days on my dark hair. Before that I’d tried a spray that was also a dark color. It was messy and made my hair uber-stiff. What a fun blog this is!

    I use Oscar Blandi and it has a lemon-y scent to it. The small size is $9 and it works pretty well. My hair is really long now and unlike when it was short (bob or midlength) as well as having children, I can go for a couple of days without washing my hair. Thank you for listing these, I will probably try one or two. : )

    Batiste is the best! I am obsessed with this brand. Its affordable and it has saved me many times from looking greasy at meetings!

    It took me about a year, but I’ve finally gotten in the habit of washing my hair less frequently.

    I’ve spent a lot of time trying dry shampoos. Oscar Blandi Pronto Invisible Dry Shampoo is one of my favorites. It was one of the first dry shampoos I loved using, because it’s colorless, making it pretty much impossible to overdo it.

    Early in my “I need to start using a dry shampoo” habit, I often ended up with that (sexy!) powdered wig look. When I started using the Blandi Invisible spray, I loved it. It worked well with my fine, dark hair – I actually kind of liked my 2nd day hair. If nothing else, it got me in the habit of using a dry shampoo. Also, some people say that they go through aerosol versions really, really fast – but this one lasted quite a while. I’d definitely buy it again. (Link below).

    I’m working on loving the Klorane (I like to keep the aerosol use down, too). I have mixed results with it – sometimes I look a little to British Parliament. But I’ve never really massaged it into my scalp (I sprinkle, wait, then brush) but maybe that’s the step that will give me better results.

    does anyone else find that dry shampoos tend to dry out their ends or make their hair unmanageable with static? my hair is dark and when i use an aerosol dry shampoo, i have to brush it through so much to get out the white powdery look that it is just a static-ridden mess.

    so far i just haven’t had any luck with this aerosol dry shampoo that i picked up at the drug store… maybe its just that the one i have is a bad product (Tresemme, anyone else tried this stuff?)? plus it smells terrible.

    i was really hoping this dry shampoo stuff would work for me so i’m excited to give one of these suggestions a try!

    tatiana – my hair can go curly or straight. when straight, i use dry shampoo (bumble & bumble hair powder) on the second day. but when curly, i almost always apply the hair powder just to my roots right after diffusing. adds some great body and helps control the oil from curly product that i have to use! no need to brush, just distribute with your fingertips.

    michelle – i love the bumble & bumble hair powder because it comes in COLORS! i use the brown and therefore don’t have to brush it out or rub it in a whole lot. i just spray at the roots (crown and temple areas), wiat a few seconds, ruffle with my fingers and that’s it. i actually prefer NOT to brush once i use the powder because it can gunk up a hairbrush so quickly.

    mina – i don’t use product after dry shampoo. style your hair as you normally would, then add the dry shampoo. as i mentioned, when my hair is straight (fine) i only use the dry shampoo when it’s needed (second day). i wouldn’t add more product on top of it to style.
