Normal condition (although from the photo, I would have to say dry)

Lives in dry, desert air
Lives in fear of the pixie cut

Of COURSE, I feel the need to sneak a modified pixie cut in there somehow.
I really don’t think the pixie cut is right for Jill, although she does have delicate features, BUT does anyone currently have that haircut? And if you do, would you send a photo for my gallery? I have a crush. Thanks.
Back to business. I think Option #1 would be the best for Jill, but I’d like to talk about the condition of her hair for a little bit. Jill flat out hates her hair – she lives in the desert and by the looks of the photo, her hair is hungry for a little moisture. Currently, Jill uses a volume-enhancing shampoo by Paul Mitchell, which is all and good, but I think it’s time to purchase products that specifically address the needs of dry hair. Once Jill starts incorporating these kinds of products into her regimen, I feel confident she’ll be much happier (regardless of the style).

Once Jill narrows her new product search and trims a couple of inches off her hair, I promise she’ll be back in Happy Hair Land. Personally, I can’t wait to see her after photos!

Trina’s Hair:
Fine and straight
Chemically processed
Oily
Prefers shoulder-length or above
Spends 5 minutes styling
I like both the cut and the color in Option #1. Since Trina prefers shorter hair, this cut would complement her face shape, and I really like the idea of keeping her bangs. Color-wise, I love it. Currently, Trina’s highlights are a little too blond for her complexion, giving her a bit of a washed-out look. An all-over warmer brown base with finely-applied golden highlights would make her complexion pop. (Plus, it’s such a beautiful color for fall and winter.)
However, if Trina decides to stay a little longer, I think she should take it a step darker like in Option #2. A warmer brunette (maybe just a touch lighter than the photo) would bring out that rosiness I see hiding in her before photo. I love the jagged cut and piecey bangs of this option too.

I’ve actually gone out and done something a touch different than the picture you see (it’s been a couple of months since I submitted it.) I’ve kept it long because I’m going to be in a wedding in December, but I changed up the bangs a bit. I’ll send Whoorl an updated pic if anyone is interested in seeing it.
Early in the new year, I have big plans to chop it! I would never have thought of option #1 for myself but I am really leaning in that direction now for a change. Plus, hair grows, right? ;)

November 8, 2007 at 12:03 pmI love Hair Thursday! I get so excited when my babe goes down for a nap on Thursdays. Okay, so with Jill I do like Option 1 as well. But, I am also wondering if maybe she’d be open for some hair color as well. I think her hair would look so pretty with a darker red color (not too dark just a bit darker than it is right now-a warm cinnamon color maybe?). I think this could also help make her hair glossier plus the color would really make her eye color pop! Color also bulks up the hair cuticle so that could help with thin hair in front as well. As for Trina–Option 1 all the way I agree with the color plus she has a similar shaped face as Mariska Hargitay!

Plus, option 2 for Trina would require MUCH more than 5 minutes of styling time since her hair is fine and straight. I believe that she would bask in the glow of option 1. Bask, I tell you.

November 8, 2007 at 1:09 pmThis has nothing to do with Hair Thursday, but I just woke up from this dream that you kept calling me and leaving messages on my answering machine about some party you were having that night, and you were very irritated with me for not RSVPing yet to this party that you had JUST INVITED ME TO while I was SLEEPING. Because you needed to know what snacks I wanted.
I respect your desire to serve me the desired snacks, but a few points:
1. You aren’t supposed to invite people to parties on the same day you’re having them. I was a fill-in invite, wasn’t I.
2. Should a same-day invitation arise, it’s unusual to invite people two time zones away. Keep that in mind next time.
3. If you’re going to invite people two time zones away, your best option is someone who does not work at night. Also, the person should own a LearJet.
I hope this clarifies our mutual expectations. There was no need to be so cranky on my answering machine. Especially since I don’t even have an answering machine in real life–so that was just silly of you.
I think a little more communication could avoid such incidents in the future. For instance, I love pizza. Now you know.

And yes, I am open to hair color (Lisa asked!). I’d always assumed lighter if I colored it, never really considered darker. That’s something to think about.
And I really appreciate the product recommendations. I always feel so overwhelmed with products. I knew my hair was feeling rather flat, and when I read a magazine praise the volumizing product by Paul Mitchell, I went and bought it. I appreciate the feedback and I can’t wait to schedule my appointment and buy new products! I will definitely share after pics.

November 8, 2007 at 3:39 pmI use Pureology Products….(made in the OC), this line is amazing. An important consideration to be aware of is how many of today’s styling products come with a lot……I should actually type A LOT of wax in them, the fantastic part about Pureology is that there is no wax in their products. For people with fine hair, they can actually begin to not even have to wash their hair everyday as the products will not leave a build up on the hair. And they also have this thing called Heligenol, its actually a derivative from the sunflower. And if you ever notice, sunflowers always follow the sun, and yet they always maintain their beautiful hues….so thats what helps maintain color when you use that line. Anyhow, I will stop rambling, but if you try pureology, I can promise you will not be disappointed!!

November 8, 2007 at 4:07 pmI, too, used to have that pixie hair cut. A lot of people told me I looked kind of like Winona so I did it. Sometimes I secretly wish I had that hairstyle back. It was so easy.
And I DO have the photo of me in that haircut… but I don’t think I have the guts to share it. It was so long ago, I don’t even look like that now.

November 9, 2007 at 7:27 amOkay, I’ve been reading Hair Thursday for a weeks now. Being a hairophile, I am highly entertained. I’ve noticed you’re partial to sideswept bangs, as am I. My question is, how do you make them work in real life? Lots of hairspray? Mine always fall directly into my eyes (especially when I’m taking care of kids) and I want to chop them all off so I look like a four-year-old who cut her own bangs.
The key to keeping bangs “sideswept” is to make sure the bangs are not cut bluntly across, but texturized so the ends kind of blend together when you push them to side. It’s the same concept as layering the rest of the hair. When the layers are texturized, they blend in the rest of the hair, instead of looking like a chunk of hair chopped off. Also, a little bit of pomade or a very light hair spray will help hold them to the side. (Plus, cowlicks help.)
Honestly though? If you are lucky enough to not have any cowlicks and your hair wants to fall forward, I say go for the blunt, straight-across-the-eyebrows look. :)
